I feel like the Batman stealth was amazing in Asylum, and while it was definitely present in later games, it never seemed as strong. I might be misremembering, but in Asylum, the point of a lot of encounters seemed to be to take everyone out one at a time. In later games, the focus was on freeflow combat and crowd management, less stealth and more action.

I agree that, at its height, Akrham's stealth is better than what you do in any of the Assassin's Creeds I've played. To be fair though, I wonder if that's down to the world and structure of the game. The Akham games, typically have you moving from arena to arena whereas the Assassins games are usually in open environments. If they did trap you in tighter enviroments and rooms occasionally and design encpunters around that, they might be able to create the same effect for players. Honestly, I'd love to see them try.

I don't really remember much about City or Knight but it might just be a result of the game worlds getting bigger. Asylum definitely felt like it had wave based combat sections and then large rooms with an emphasis on stealth.

As for the OP, Assassin's Creed never clicked with me as I wanted something more stealth focus (Tenchu, Hitman, MGS) and they seemed to want to focus on the free running system (which I despised how automated it was) and large combat encounters that flowed a lot like Batman...oddly enough.

Hmmmmm disagree. City has a LOT of options and verticality and they really perfected the stealth a lot. You *can* go loud of course but it’s ineffectual and it’s much better to use the generous plethora of takedown options and gadgets to vanquish your foes silently

Knight has greater emphasis on the floor grates and fear takedowns. I don’t see it as any better or worse just different. Lateral if you will

Not really, Arkham stealth and combat is kinda braindead but ‘feels’ good due to how enemies react etc, modern AC games all have True Stealth, ie no detection at all is actually possible, that alone makes it superior as a ‘Stealth’ game and no this is not debatable, stealth means no detection…
They’re all inferior to MGS though where True Stealth and No Kill runs are actually possible, plus it has a ridiculous amount of sandbox possibilities.
And obviously then theres Splinter Cell, Thief etc

I don't think it does really.

I feel like batman stealth is just a power fantasy more than anything else, pretty slick tho.

I'm sorry but this is not true at all, Batman stealth section are pretty much scripted... also I hated that in batman I played 70% of the game in xray vision mode...
