Oh god, oh god, oh god, Liam Neeson is going to die in this isn't he?
The aliens will be attacking his ship and he'll be telling the young man "be good to my daughter and tell her I love her" and then will switch to talking to the aliens just as the bombs hit...
Didn't see the Haunting and the A-team was alright. But damn, I tried to forget about Clash of the Titans.

I think it's clever the alien projectiles look like the game pegs. The desing for the alien ship was neat. Other than that it looks horrible. I heard the script was literally the worst thing to come out of hollywood in the last 10 years, even for a studio picture.
Realistic looking water is hard to simulate and takes a long time to render. For the scope of this show, it was going to be expensive regardless of vfx house.
I don't understand what's so surprisingly bad about this. Seems pretty clear that this is just another Transformers style big budget US Military VS Aliens film. Not really all that different from the influx of FPS we've had over the last few years.
this looks fucking great, their havent been as many movies featuring the Navy recently, hopefully their are some new videogame franchises that cash in on the new interest. Still waiting for a new good capital ship simulator game
Every time Battleship is mentioned on GAF I pop up on some one man crusade about how I've read the script for this film and just how mind bendingly awful it was. Well here I am again with another rant. Brace yourselves.
It's basically Abrams' Star Trek set on ships. I don't mean like it's a LITTLE like that. I mean it's EXACTLY like that. Including
Taylor's character being made an orphan at the start when his father is killed is a plane crash
. Yeah. Seriously.
Instead of Spock there is a Japanses captain who becomes the lead's 'number 2' because all Asians are cold, emotionally distant and logical they are ideal fits to replace Vulcans. Right?
And when people ask if they say 'You sunk my battleship' in this, they do. it's when
Talyor and Spock, sorry the Japanese captain, ram their ship into the alien mothership (IIRC) and then jump off it, with flames raging behind them, and Taylor screams "you sunk my battleship!" as he falls into the water. I'm serious. This is actually in the script.
And if you think that's bad read the story of how Universal was pressured into making this film by HASBRO (yes, you read that right) even though (I'm told) they came close to canceling it altogether at the last minute.
Universal used to make AMAZING films but all they make now is total dreck. I feel bad that this once proud studio that made some of the seminal films of my youth has been reduced to a position where they are now HELPLESS to do nothing but make films based on Hasbro board games.
I hope this film bombs and it takes Universal with it. I can just see the headllnes now 'Battleship sinks Universal'. Harsh I know but it's better than seeing a film based on fucking Monoploy or a 'Lord Of The Rings' style epic based on Candyland.
Fuck me.
Alas in some No Country For Old Men style twist will probably make $500m worldwide and have more sequels than Harry Potter and films like this will be the films are kids grow up with instead of The Goonies or Back To The Future. Think about that for a moment. Sad.
You heard correct. I've read the script for this and it's genuinely the worst 'studio script' I've read in five years. Awful. Seriously. You can't even imagine.
Agreed. If it didn't have such a moronic title people (an A-Team film aimed at adults) would check it out and realise that despite that it's a great action movie.
Yep that sounds like what I expected this movie to be. Kinda glad you can spot some of these shit movies now from a mile away.
Also agree about Universal. What do they still have going for them? The Apatow comedies? The good times of Bourne are over and I don#t have high expectations when it comes to Bourne Legacy.

People loved that shitty Star Trek movie, and they love big dumb Michael Bay sci-fi movies. Unfortunately, this will probably do amazing at the box office.
Saw this trailer last night and talked about how laughably bad it was in the Cowboys and Aliens thread. I mean I literally laughed out loud during it and quoted, "All of them." after the fire the weapons bit. Abomination is a word that comes to mind.

How can any American not watch this? Just seems so over the top and cheesy to pass up. Day one. Especially with that confirmation above of "you sunk my battleship!"
Ironically his character Admiral Shane (again, not joking) is in the (script) film for all of 20 minutes.
And... (SUPER SPOILER)
Skaarsgard's character dies in the first 30/40 (pages) minutes. From then on it's Taylor, Rhianna and Japanese Spock for the rest of the movie.

You can smell the desperation in the choices they make. A truly big player studio (WB, Disney, Fox, Paramount etc) would realise that Matt Damon IS the Bourne franchise. It's not like a Batman or Wolverine etc.
Why not take a chance and try and make the NEXT Bourne esque franchise. Not literally make the next Damon-less Bourne film because you're so bereft of ideas and courage.
Madness.

When I first heard they were making a battleship movie, I figured it would be set around WWI. You know, when battleships were used and they were the pride of nations. But set in modern times, where we don't even use battleships, against aliens?!
smh

I can't believe the alien ship shot out little pegs.
