Deadly Cyclone
Pride of Iowa State
We've had the (fantastic) "What's this P90X workout stuff?" thread by bishoptl himself now for nearing 3 years and with P90X2 freshly out I figured it may be time to make the thread official.

While this thread focuses on P90X/2, Power 90 (P90) is a great way for beginners to jump in. I actually started with P90X so it is plenty do-able (I was in bad shape when I started) but P90 may be better for some of you.

P90X is the follow-up to Power 90 and is a DVD-based workout program developed by Tony Horton and the CEO of BeachBody Carl Daikeler. The purpose of the program is to get you in top shape in just 90 days using muscle confusion and a variety of workouts from all types of fitness.
What do I need for P90X?
Less than you may think. You can do all of P90X with an open area (living room, bedroom, etc.) a pull-up bar (examples below) and some resistance bands or dumbbells. Extra equipment you may want would be push-up bars, the P90X chin-up Max, and a yoga block/mat see below for examples.
• Pull-Up Bars:
*Note: Most pull-up bars also double as push-up bars.

To help you do pull-ups if you are weak like me.

• Resistance Bands
Just be sure to get some decent bands that don’t have any worn spots or tears and come decently rated. You’ll probably want at least 3 different tensions and a door anchor.

P90X2 is the (you guessed it) follow up to P90X. The program suggests doing P90 or P90X before P90X2. P90X2 is a bit shorter than P90X on the weekly scale going to 5 days and 2 rest/stretch days as opposed to 6 and 1. Yoga was also shortened from an hour and a half to 67 minutes.
What do I need for P90X2?
Similar to P90X you can do the whole series with just a pull-up bar and bands or dumbbells. However this time around Tony has added a number of extra options for those who want to get the best results. The main additions you will see are an exercise ball, medicine balls, and a foam roller. These are utilized in nearly every workout and can enhance the program if you would like them.

P90X3 is technically a follow-up to P90X2, but unlike X2 you do not need to have done X1 or X2 to do X3. The big thing with P90X3 is that the workouts have been revamped to fit in a 30 minute time table. Most of the favorite X and X2 workouts make an appearance along with some new workouts like Pilates.

Focus T-25 is a new workout from Beachbody and Shaun T coming in the summer of 2013. Here's the PR:
The only thing that stands between you and the results you want is time. That's why I experimented for the last year to see if I could create the same kind of results you'd expect from an hour-long program, in under 30 minutes.
The result is FOCUS T25–and the name implies the intent: If you focus your intensity for 25 minutes, and you do it 5 days a week, you WILL get results.

Tips & Suggestions
This section will be a work in progress to add tips from users as they go through the two programs.
DC’s Tips
• You won’t be able to do everything they do your first week, month, or even at all. My first day I literally did 10 real push-ups and maybe 1/5th of the workout. You cannot let that get you down. When I finished I went back to that same workout and did 100+ push-ups. Just do as Tony says “Do your best and forget the rest.”
• Pace yourself. Some of the workouts you’ll go through a bunch of moves, and then go through them again. Don’t kill yourself on round 1.
• Eat right! P90x will work much better if you watch what you eat.
