This show is the slowest of burns. It takes 5 seasons to give Jimmy and Kim the character development that would normally take place in only half of a season. I am still in to the end, but I have to admit its getting tiring seeing the characters doing basically the same stuff every week.

I hear episode 8, bag man, is supposed to be the ozymandias of this show

I'm still irked that 6 episodes in these are the most forgettable episodes that are coming out of that breaking bad world
 
So what's Kim thinking here? That since he is always going to keep risking her life/career with his shenanigans, the only options are to break up (and not be subject to them) or get married (and not have to testify against him in the inevitable court case)?

The journey Jimmy McGill now Saul Goodman has taken thus far, has been highly fitting. Everything is happening rapidly actually. At first, Jimmy is sorting papers and more or less, is just a friendly and beloved office worker living under his big brother's name. Two years later, he conquers his brother and slays him; at his own game. Now, he's becoming a very powerful force. In time, and at the end of this series leading up to the event of Breaking Bad, he'll be nearly an unstoppable lawyer with his level of cunning and wit and charm. He's almost like the devil in his ways, yet nobody recognizes or acknowledges his prowess or ability

This is 10/10 work in my eyes, It makes Breaking Bad even better than it already is. By adding context, it's only enhanced the already legendary show. Simply amazing work, looking forward to catching up on the latest two episodes
 
The slow burn in the show is great, but I almost feel like it may have benefited from Jimmy not fully becoming Saul until the very end. Vince Gilligan always liked to describe Walter White's transformation as going from Mr. Chips to Scarface.

He essentially did the same with Jimmy but in a sociopathic personal way, not necessarily a machine gun kinda way. Unfortunately, the way Saul becomes Lawyer Scarface has had some pretty rocky and unbelievable moments, especially during this season. I still love the show, but for the first time in its entire run, even I am feeling times where the show is stretching to fill episodes.
 
Just caught up to episode 6 since last night, and this honestly may be my favorite season yet. I'm one of those hooligans who prefers BCS to Breaking Bad overall, and my favorite aspect of the show is watching Jimmy be a scheming huckster,. He's off the rails this time around, and I'm having a blast. This is the role of a lifetime for Odenkirk.

Ultimately, I just hope we get at least one David Cross cameo before all this ends. For old times' sake.
 
I just watched S1+2, gotta say that even tho Chuck is kind of a piece of shit I almost sympathize with him more than Jimmy. Dude is a habitual fuckup who just makes life worse for everyone around him, no matter if his intentions are good. Everybody should've stopped giving him chances long agol Kim sticking with him, and even opening an office together (lol) is completely implausible to me. Anyway, Mike is still enjoyable even though you can predict some scenes based on knowing who lives.
 
This newest episode is exactly what I mean when I say we didn't need that cartoon bullshit. Here we have Jimmy battling between wanting to become "friends" with the cartel for the promise of lots of money and the human side that gives a shit that he's helping a murderer get away right in front of the grieving family of the kid that was killed.

That is us watching him become Saul. Not a series of hair-brained schemes from a shitty show like Sneaky Pete that never feel real in the world they've shown us up to this point. Good episode this week. And clearly, Kim is going to end up involved in this cartel shit somehow.

it's ramping up, it's felt like nothing but build up but i really hope the last 3 episodes are explosive because 7 episodes in without lalo himself fucking shit up is kinda disappointing

3 more episodes left to demonstrate why lalo has saul shitting bricks in breaking bad

with breaking bad i was on the edge of my seat every episode
 
I dont get how the chicken sliding into a fryer causes an explosion in gus's restaurant.

If a while chicken dropped into a deep fat fryer it would just cook until it was black, it might create some smoke but it would not start a crazy fire.

I'm caught up and I agree with this. Full disclosure, I was never that hot on Breaking Bad either, and this show is written in a similar way. Fundamentally though, I think Jimmy is the same person as he was at the start of the show. He's more unhinged, more sure of himself, but he's still the guy who takes shortcuts, doesn't consider how his actions affect other people and when all is said and done he has screwed them over, however good his intentions. He's a well intentioned, fuck-up scam artist. The only real change that I see is that he went from wanting to please his brother, to hating him, but in practice he acts the same way.

As for Chuck, I'm guessing people hate him, but I think he was right to not hire Jimmy. His law firm clearly had high standards, they shouldn't hire him because of nepotism (sidenote, I don't buy that Davis&Main would ever hire him). Chuck had already given him enough chances at that point, I sure as shit wouldn't have trusted Jimmy in his shoes. And guess what: he was right. Yes, tricking Jimmy into saying that stuff on tape was a giant dick move. Setting him up for him to come there and destroy it even more so. But again, Jimmy did all that shit. He's the bigger asshole in my book, good intentions don't mean squat. Chuck was annoying as hell though so I'm glad they finally got rid of him, the whole electricity allergy got old fast.

All I have to say about Kim is that she's a freaking idiot for being with Jimmy and going along with his crap. I'm sure Jimmy utterly ruining her will be the climax of this season or the next - it's a given. I find their relationship to be quite implausible.

Like someone else said I mostly watch the show for Mike and that story.

I dont think kim will get killed.
If kim got killed i think saul would be way more hardend and bitter in bb.

Also sauls and mikes relationship seems like it would be a bit more meaningful after there experience together, but in bb it seems like they dont know each other as well as all there experiences together in bcs.
 
So who attacked him? It clearly wasn't Gustavo's men, so Salamanca's? Why the hell would he not just have his guys drive to the money drop-off if he trusts them with the money? Or is there a third party? I can see how Salamanca would want to get rid of Saul, because he gets greedy. But then again money is not an issue for him. Who cares if Saul wants 100k?
 
Maybe Lalo was just tying off the one loose end he had? He was convinced that only Jimmy knew who he was. His plan was to pay the $7M bail and flee the country. Maybe he was worried that Jimmy could give up too much information about him?

But that doesn't really even sound right to me. Plenty of people know who he is and it's not like Jimmy is some game-changer against him once he has fleed. So I have no idea what that attack was or how Mike knew to be watching.

It has not been revealed yet.

Maybe it was the guy who called somone after the brothers collected the money, and he and some other crew was going to try and rip off the cartel.

If lalo did just flee, the cops wouldn't get much from jimmy and have any leverage over him.
So it would not make to much sense to off Jimmy, if he did he still has to get the money to him, i dont know how the law works in this area but, if anyone even a lawyer paid bail with $7 million cash, im sure it would cause police attention.

That's another possibility and it is hard to wrap my head around that one, too. He's running some chop shop that counts and houses cartel cash, and when 2 cartel guys walk in and grab some of it, that's when they decide it's a good time to rob the cartel they work for? I just can't figure out what happened here.

Yeah, your right my explanation is unlikely.

Your theory is probably most likely, even though it would not make to much sense, saul would still be a potential rat to lalo and the cartel dont really need a huge reason to kill someone.

Im sure it will be explained somehow.

And the salamancas end up some what out the picture, with tuco being some what low level, hector stuck in nursing home and the twin brothers carrying out there revenge, I think lalo will get killed, nacho will also be out the picture somehow and gus will win this little skirmish without putting suspicion on him.

Mike I can understand. Gustavo knows that Lalo needs bail and that he will likely use his lawyer to get it. So he just had Mike follow Saul. Comes with the bonus of getting back the money that the DEA had gotten from him thanks to Lalo and then some interest and keeps Lalo in jail.

But I really can't see a third party. The territories are claimed and there is no war going on aside from the obvious one. So either they were Gustavo's men and just there to make it look like to Saul like he was attacked, so he sells it the right way to Lalo when he comes back without the money, or they were Lalo's men that were told to go there by Nacho on orders of Gustavo, or they were there on orders of Lalo and really supposed to off Saul - which doesn't make a lot of sense, because Saul is scared to death by Lalo. He owns him. The more I think about it, the more I think it could actually be Gustavo and his men - to get Saul be grateful for saving his life and own him like he owns Nacho. But Lalo seemed quite relaxed when he was confronted with Saul missing, so we'll see I guess. :)

The first part is why I'm confused. Obviously Mike had a tracker in Saul's gas cap, and following him is a given. But why would Gus carry out that plan? The whole problem with Lalo being in jail was that he was still a major problem for Gus even behind bars. So the best move for Gus was to get him bail so that Lalo could run back over the border and not be such a nuisance anymore.

If Gus wanted Lalo to stay in jail, that was already achieved and I don't feel like the money means anything to him at all. I can't imagine that some two-bit lawyer would be so important to Gus that he'd stage this whole thing. And, Mike even told Saul that if he had known how dirty this was going to be, he'd have brought more guys. The whole thing is confusing as hell lol

I read it as an inside job. Basically the guy in the chopshop calling his buddies north of the border to intercept a sweet sweet payoff. They might work for the Cartel but it's not like they're getting paid like rockstars, so to steal and adapt a line from the much understated modern western 'Way of the Gun' Seven Million dollars is not money, its a motive with a universal adaptor on it.

Gus and Mike know that Saul is working for Lalo because Nacho told them so it's naturally in their interest to make sure everything goes according to plan and Lalo makes bail (even if he's disappeared afterwards). That's why Mike tracks Sauls Car and intercedes when he does because the thing Gus least wants is Lalos Bail money going missing with him as the prime suspect after Lalo burnt down his restaurant.

Anyway, dope episode. Saul is in deep now. 100K richer though.

Its would not be to hard for gus or mike to put word out anomalously that $7 million is being transported to some other cartel or gang.

I dont think gus would use his own men, it would link the attempted robbery to him, eladio's cartel wont allow fighting between there partners.

That might be underthinking it. Who did he call? He said, "I've got something for him, if he's still interested." He got this word to someone specific who would be willing to steal $7M in cartel money and already had an interest in doing it.

Seems pretty likely to me that the guys who tried to rob Saul were there because of the guy who made the phone call in the open. They wouldnt have had that bit if it was unrelated IMO

I didnt get the impression that he was in charge or anything more than another worker, and id say he definitely isnt in the cartel on the level the twins are

I never found Kim that attractive until this season, something about her being all assertive is a turn on. Vince Gilligan is a genius. This season has been Breaking Bad level quality.
