Bloodborne Reviews Thread

Ok, this is probably a little off-topic, but I don't think it warrants its own thread:

What is the situation with the IP for Dark Souls? Can From actually make a Dark Souls 3 without permission from Namco? Only reason I'm asking is because between Bloodborne being From and Sony's baby, and Dark Souls being From and Namco, Kadokawa don't seem like they're getting much from these projects. Is there a chance that From don't actually go back to Dark Souls at all after this purely due to Kadokawa not wanting to waste their purchase?

No clue, From published Dark Souls in Japan so i think they keep the IP but Bamco is the owner in US trademark. I think From will continue to work with Sony on Bloodborne sequels or whatever because i doubt Sony invest so much for only one game. Kadokawa? No clue either

Hmmm. Guess we could end up with a game that's called Dark Souls 3 in Japan and something else in the West. Though that does beg the question "Why bother calling it Dark Souls 3 in Japan".

To be fair I'd rather they didn't go back to Dark Souls and stick with Bloodborne so the rest of the studio can get back to working on Armoured Core.

People would be mad if what you said is true, Dark Souls games are the only Souls games that available on multiplatform.

Daaamn, look at those high scores. This is destined to be one of the highest-rated games of the year for sure. I've heard some murmurings that it's somewhat easier and shorter than the Souls' titles, so that is music to my ears. It certainly makes me feel more compelled to check the game out, since I couldn't get on with Demon's Souls at all.

Welcome back dude.

And yea, it seems like people's opinions on the games difficulty can vary quite a lot. I guess it depends on your approach and tactics.

Really good quote here from Guardian review:

"Bloodborne like its predecessors, will spill its secrets slowly, over months rather than days. Part of the appeal of Miyazaki’s games is this slow-release effect, whereby riddles are unpicked and shared by the community, rather than plainly laid out on the first day of release. It brings players together, where the fiction itself keeps them somewhat apart. Bloodborne is, by any measure, an extraordinary game, one that runs forcefully against the commercial tide, subverting perceived wisdom that contemporary games have to hold their players’ hands, or make their shape and rules explicit from the get-go."

Im actually surprised by the reviews. Its a souls game which makes it a great game by default almost for me but its not something timeless or classic IMO.

But Bloodborne has the cooler setting and has transforming weapons and a giant cannon offhand. :[

Like, if I had a choice between going back to Demon's / Dark Souls settings and having more Bloodborne, would be Bloodborne every time.

Now Bloodborne has reached proper critical/mainstream acclaim, I think we have to prepare ourselves for the flood of "inspired by Dark Souls/Bloodborne" PR releases where they've jacked up the artificial difficulty.

Don't even waste your time with User Reviews.

There is so much bias and personal-agenda involved with them that you can't take anyone seriously, either for or against the game.

Thank you nib!

I didn't realise there were conflicting reports on Bloodborne's difficulty and length in comparison to its predecessors; I just figured it was something most peeps were agreeing on. Still, I feel the urge to play it at some point in the coming weeks/months. It looks different enough to Demon's Souls, from the setting to the faster-paced combat, to make me think that there may be a chance I'll like it.

Anyway, I wonder what the next critically-acclaimed PS4 exclusive will be.

While not explicitly exclusive (both eventually coming to PC), the Witness and No Man's Sky both have a shot at being both critically acclaimed, and coming out in 2015. My money's on the Witness, considering it's puzzle complete and in the final polish phase. No Man's Sky's development is still a big question mark, and I honestly think that game will be pretty divisive.

Probably persona 5, not really ps4 exclusive but Sony exclusive.

Excellent. Hopefully the sales match the scores. I've been on media blackout for this game. Does it control like the souls games? (Triggers to attack) or does it use face buttons?

Don't own a PS4, but it's exciting to see both the console and From Software basking in the glory of a finely-executed delivery.

Congrats all around!

Reading the reviews. You will probably be on the wrong side of history on this. This looks likes a game that has lots of replay value and rewards players the more time spent on it.

Even better than I expected! It's an incredible game. I wholeheartedly agree with that quote from EDGE; this is definitely the first absolute must have game on the new systems. Sony has a winner here. If you liked any of the 3 Souls games, you will love this one.

As one of the many people who felt that the Souls series defined the previous generation, I can say with confidence that this takes it even further.

So that's
Demon's Souls with an MT of 89
Dark Souls with an MT of 89
Bloodborne with an MT of 93

Well done Miyazaki, you have successfully out done yourself with each entry.

Who's doing the giantbomb review is it Jeff as I believe he's not a fan of the souls series, I don't particularly like his taste in games

15 hours in and I'm finding Bloodborne to be much, much harder. But admittedly, I've always been a magic user, and there's no such a thing in BB. ;_;
