Yeah I don't want to give due to stereotypes but I've seen that South-East Asian fighting attitude before, Pacquiao had it. Always all smiles, optimistic, selfless, a mix of faith and patriotism you can't depress. Can't wait to see that next fight.
Well, more than "smiles and optimism" the stereotype I've seen many agree about a lot of Asian fighters is that they tend to stubborn, resilient motherfuckers.
You either knock them out cold or they never stop bouncing back and trying.

Still, Inoue could be something special. He was heavily favorite for this match up and frankly many expected him to make short work of Nieves , but even in a couple of previous chances he outdid predictions by a wide margin.

Ok, I just got done watching Inoue put on a jabbing clinic on Nieves..... Ffs, the dude has some pressure and Nieves wasn't able to stop it at all. Then came the body shot, and more work on the body, and the stoppage came. Nieves was lucky to survive to the 6th round since he was just running and trying anything to survive.

Rewatched Rungvisai vs Gonzalez with no audio, and all I could keep noticing were Rungvisai's body work. Sure it wasn't the most beautiful or technical, but holy shit was it there all night and he targeted it all night until he opened Gonzalez up to the knockdown and then he repeated it for the knockout (and holy shit was that a beautiful right hand - faster, planted his feet, and twisted his hips, and he rolled his face just in time to absorb Gonzalez's punch).

If both can work on their defense then they could be long reigning champs imo.

Edit: here is a streamable sequence of the knockout - Rungvisai knocks out Chocolatito

Gonzalez looked like a shell of a man in there.

I had Estrada winning by a much wider margin than the official judges. I thought Cuadras demonstrated ineffective aggression for most of the fight, while Estrada put on a technical showcase. His judgement of range and timing was really sensational.

I'm of a similar mindset, especially about Cuadras' output being mostly showy and ineffective. He spent all night hitting a lot of glove, arm, and air. Estrada is a such a pleasure to watch, albeit methodical almost to a fault. Gets his shot at Sor Rungvisai next.

What did you guys think of Inoue's HBO debut? I watched a bunch of his fights in the buildup to this weekend I'm now fully on his bandwagon. He super talented and super fun to watch.

What a stupid comment. Even if he loses, he's hardly being exposed given his amateur and pro record thus far. It's comments like this that give boxing fans a bad name.
Yeah, it's embarrassing how some people just can't give credit to top level athletes (who already proved their worth over and over) even in their defeat.

That aside, I'm actually favoring Golovkin in this match up, but I expect it to be highly competitive on both sides.

Can't wait for the fight OT to go up.

I'm not trying to be impatient but where's the GGG-Canelo OT? Only 3 days away and I feel like this fight needs to be hyped more!
It's up. Sorry for the delay boys. Still a few details to fill in, but I wanted to get it live.

good job on the OP as always Cody!
Cheers!

I normally put up the fight threads the day of or the day before (MayGregor aside). It's heartening to see that's there's so much excitement for this fight that people were clamoring for the thread so early in the week.

Just in case anyone had any doubt that Billy Joe Saunders is a complete nutjob:

Embarrassing.

UK peeps with BT Sport 1 can watch Billy Joe Saunders fight Willie Monroe Jr for the WBO Middleweight belt (also known as the"missing piece" in the GGG/Canelo puzzle) starting at 8.30GMT on Saturday. The undercard features promising young British heavyweight 'Dynamite' Daniel Dubois, and the number one British prospect (imo) 'The Beast' Anthony Yarde, who both fight low level opposition.

Nice warm up for the festivities in Vegas.

I'm interested, and I also like both guys, but I'm expecting this to be far more one-sided that a lot of people seem to think.

I've considered that possibility myself. Loma might win this clearly but he's still gonna have to deal with Rigo's timing and skill level. I'm hyped just to see how they react to each other.

Loma-Rigo

can't believe that fight got made

got damnnnn

2017 is a fantastic year for boxing
Yesssss. Booked my holidays for this from work last week after rumours it was happening. This will be the fight Manny vs Floyd was supposed to be. That said, I think Rigondeaux will ultimately be too small for Loma. Plus he's been down a few times. It'll be interesting to see how the betting pans out.

I expect a draw, but not a robbery draw.

GGG won this. Even Syphon Filter knows.

I don't even think this judge actually exists. Probably a pen name for nobody lol.
