OMFG. I'm away from home from the 8th to the 17th and I'm missing both Marathon and Wilgate betas. God has forsaken me!!
So apparently Dr.Lupo was talking about Marathon in a stream couple of days ago and he said he has been play testing it since 2018!
He also said that every iteration he tested was an improvement over the last. He thinks it could still be better, but that it is good.

Say what you want about Destiny, this or that- even Halo - Their gameplay is top notch, simple as that.
I expect no less here.
They could solve that having an easy main target for the mission that would allow you to start, and keep the fight against other players as high risk high reward optional stuff.I love tarkov but sometimes (a lot of the time) it's just too much. It demands a lot from you as a player. I would hope this has a lot of persistent progression win or lose like Destiny, but with successful "extraction" still offering a big carrot on a stick without being constantly tryhard and punishing like eft.
I hope this helps Sony make back the $3+ Billion they used to acquire this studio that is a complete shell of itself.
Actually I don't care, I want this GAAS initiative to fall flat on it's face.
Oh it has all the potential to be a lot bigger and big longer than Helldivers 2. I wouldn't cast doubt on that probability. This is Bungie, and it's their first game not named Destiny in over a decade. There's a large segment here that hates on anything GaaS regardless of what it is. People were very negative on Helldivers 2 as well, and that crushed.
They are not representative of the market. GaaS is a boom or bust type of market. Bungie hasn't missed, so I vote for BOOM. This game will do amazingly well. Not saying it will match Helldivers 2, but it will certainly be one of the most played titles. The game has a unique enough style and that classic Bungie gameplay feel married with a genre that hasn't had a ton of AAA production in the space.....I think it's the recipe for success.
I also suspect that this will come to Switch 2.

We might think the studio is a complete shell of itself but apparently many still believe they are doing a good job.
The only reason anyone is paying attention to this is because they are hoping for some Bungie magic which was lost years ago. Destiny became boring really fast, grind shooter at heart and then they decided to revive a game that was for Mac only back in the day and literally nobody talked about it back then because there were way better and influential games at the time. The only people who think Bungie is shell of its former self aren't really paying attention.
They have a great opportunity here. A lot of people think the layoffs were evidence that the studio was fucked, but it was a complete misread.
The layoffs happened because two major projects were delayed and they had no revenue coming in to keep their studio affloat at the size they were at. They hired fast because they thought they'd have money from Final Shape AND Marathon at the same time.
They had a 29% reduction in force, but "only" 17 percent of them were laid off, many of the functions were absorbed into SIE, representing the other 12 percent, but that allows you to stay afloat while you wait for that marathon revenue.
If Marathon is a success, I fully expect their hiring will increase a bit. They just went over budget and had to course correct. I wouldn't be surprised if post Marathon Bungie becomes a PlayStation Studio and PlayStation Studios begins to manage the publishing of the games. It just makes more sense to centralize a lot of this stuff.
i will tell you this. They better. if not:I have no doubt this will shake up the industry, just like Halo and Destiny did - also why PlayStation didn't care to scratch a lot of GaaS projects.
They've got an ace in their hand.
Their event stage looks hype
This art direction is peak stuff. Apparently their director Joseph Cross did a lot of work for the Dune movies. Makes sense. This is like the anti-Concord in terms of art direction lol
Their studio has A LOT riding on the success of this game. Few companies hype up upcoming IP like this, it's like a handful really.
I wouldn't be surprised if the marketing budget for this game alone is more than all of PlayStation Studios games for the year combinded, including Ghost of Yotei and Death Stranding 2.
Yeah it seems like Sony is REALLY confident in this game and are giving it a proper marketing push.
The ARG stuff was insane by itself, and now they have a pretty big staged event likely with their fans on Saturday. It's really the proper "viral" treatment prior to launch. I think this game has had the proper "gate" procedures in place, unlike Concord. Tons of playtesting/feedback/adjustments for what we now know is like 7 or 8 years in the making. That's a long time, with a lot of playtests.
For Concord they just sort of stealth dropped the reveal, and it of course had a lot of fan blowback. I see none of that here. Just excitement about the way the art/music vibes, along with the pedigree of Bungie's best in class mechanics.
If I know Bungie from how they developed Destiny, I am pretty sure they will make extraction shooter as accessible as possible, while being harder to master.I love tarkov but sometimes (a lot of the time) it's just too much. Pretty excited to see what they have come up with.
You dont know the game youre making?Always great gun play with Bungie but Destiny 2 always lost me, I put so much time into the first game that 2 just felt more of the same everytime I returned but with more GaS features. Play one destiny mission, you've played them all. Which can be a good & bad thing.
Bungies Halos had great variety for it's time & that will be the key selling point for me with Marathon. I don't want to just accept contracts from factions & have this slightly different extraction experience each time. I hope there's more to this game than the Destiny gameplay loop. Mission type>Social Hub>NPC>Repeat, because for some reason even though this is their first "new" IP in so long, I just have this feeling that they made Marathon have the same Destiny DNA because that worked out for them. I really hope I'm wrong.
