Classic Horror Game FEAR Rushed To GOG's Preservation Program After Monolith's Shutdown
The first of three FEAR games has been added.
I think Guerrilla Games (Killzone only dev) would do great with F.E.A.R.It's time for a new FEAR. Someone competent buy the IP.
Yeah agree, it's crazy we never got a sequel. It's time for a new FEAR. Someone competent buy the IP.
the guys from Trepang2 could do a good jobIt's time for a new FEAR. Someone competent buy the IP.
wake me when they remember Freelancer exists

as long as its still a dark, claustrophobic corridor shooter with sparks, shadows, and dismembermentIt's time for a new FEAR. Someone competent buy the IP.

2 was mediocre, 3 was trash.FEAR3 was awful.
I'd take a reboot. Same with Condemned.
No more remakes please.
Noooooo, that's the best one too!I bought 2 and 3 but 1 was delisted on Xbox a while ago.

How about we leave this to some competent AA dev like one who did Trepang2, and leave these AAA devs do their boring risk-averse copy-paste games.I think Guerrilla Games (Killzone only dev) would do great with F.E.A.R.
No thanks.I think Guerrilla Games (Killzone only dev) would do great with F.E.A.R.
2 was mediocre, 3 was trash.
The first was the best along with the expansion.

I liked some of the ideas they tried with the sequels, but I hated that with each iteration it felt like it pulled away further and further from the darker and grittier look of the first game. The first games tone was SO good.Good stuff. I remember having to tweak some stuff when I replayed it some time ago so maybe they get rid of that with this revision.

I think a game on GOG vs a game on GOG's Preservation Program differs in that, ones on the former could eventually break the older they become, whereas ones on the latter will receive updates so they stay playable on any modern system (whether modern is now or 20 years from now), no matter how old they are.I don't get what GOGs Preservation Program even is, these games were already on GOG.
Do they rework the games to work with modern framerates and resolutions? I have the Steam versions and they seem to be busted nowadays

What can you expect from games in the GOG Preservation Program?
1. Expect it to work on current and future popular PC configurations,
2. Be sure that this version is the best and most complete available anywhere, including compatibility, manuals, and other bonus content, but also DLCs and even features that are missing in other editions,
3. Access GOG's Tech Support if you encounter technical issues with running the game,
4. As with all titles in our catalog, always keep access to their offline installers, granting you the power to safeguard them how you want.
Wasn't this pretty much what you were always doing?
While GOG has always been committed to video game preservation, our approach has evolved over the past 16 years. We’ve experimented with different strategies and projects—sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. So while yes, we were always doing it, we also acknowledge that, despite our efforts, we could have done a much better job maintaining the games released on GOG in the past. This is something we’re committed to improving.
Going forward, we plan to demonstrate this commitment through actions, not just words. We’re fully dedicated to making it right.
Our goal is clear: to champion DRM-free gaming as a means of preserving, sharing, and celebrating gaming history. For us, and gamers everywhere, we believe this is the path that truly matters.

Okay, that makes sense now. Steady and guaranteed maintenance. This is the preservation page(FAQ at the bottom past the library of games). There's a Q&A in the comments, and these are some relevant bits.
The CoD4-ification of FPS in the mid/late 2000s. Resistance 2 suffered from that as well, but yeah. FEAR 3 to me was almost unrecognizable at times.I liked some of the ideas they tried with the sequels, but I hated that with each iteration it felt like it pulled away further and further from the darker and grittier look of the first game. Yeah, this has to be the first time i ever see someone rating the sequel higher than the original.
I totally forgot that FEAR was from Monolith. What a game! The AI was so much better than most games to date! It's time for a new FEAR. Someone competent buy the IP.
Xbox 360 versions are all BC on Series consoles.Good news is the GOD-TIER PS3 version is available for streaming on PS+ Classics.

360 Discs still work on Series X.Noooooo, that's the best one too!
I'd love to see Saints Row 2 on GOG's PP. The story behind that game and the "modernization" PC patch is something that deserves a bigger spotlight in the annals of gaming history.GoGs preservation program is an amazing effort on keeping old and forgotten games alive and well in todays modern video game market. You can even go on their website and wishlist for games you want them to tackle next. It's very exciting to be a part of such a project and see all these classics get a new life.

A Saints Row 2 modder who attempted to fix the game eventually became an employee at Volition. While at Volition, he found the long-lost source code for Saints Row 2 and worked in his off time to fix the game. He eventually got cancer and passed away before completing his goal, and then Volition promised to finish it in his memory. Volition went bankrupt though and never finished it either, and now all that hard work is completely lost to time.

This is one of the worst takes I've ever heard here. FEAR is better then FEAR 2 in every way except that you don't get to fuck Alma. FEAR 2 is good but it's not one of the best FPS campaigns of all time like the original.![]()

For modern audiences. It's called QUEER.It's time for a new FEAR. Someone competent buy the IP.
F.E.A.R was an instant classic. 2 was a letdown.

That Uncle Phil era had some remarkable cringe.Yeh?
Where's my new Hexen game then?

For sure, I was just being facetious. The PS3 version is already the worst version and then to stream it locked at 720p on a 4k TV, lol.Xbox 360 versions are all BC on Series consoles.
F.E.A.R. benefits from Auto HDR and FPS Boost to 60fps
F.E.A.R. Files benefits from Auto HDR. Unfortunately it's stuck at 30fps
F.E.A.R. 2 benefits from Auto HDR. It had an unlocked frame rate which makes it damn near locked at 60fps on Series consoles.
F.E.A.R. 3 benefits from Auto HDR and FPS Boost to 60fps
360 Discs still work on Series X.
Quasi-Underground Elite Extraction Recon? For modern audiences. It's called QUEER.
