The Metabarons, by Jodorowski and Gimenez, makes me wish that more film directors got involved with terrific artists to produce comix. The way scenes are depicted in this is...gods.

It's simply aan unusual kind of language, a completely different feel for framing and composition. I utterly love how radically odd it looks in a book (even if its essentially framed like how a film would be)

When fans asked on the official DC message boards about what was going on, he answered honestly over the course of many years. Johnston collected a whole bunch of the replies in Lying In The Gutters and published it, which made the posts far more visible than before.

So, DC fired McDuffie.

His statement at the time:

Yknow, the saddest thing about that page is that, when the artist was given room to be expressive, in that there last panel, be nailed it. The look on Reed's eyes, the backdrop, the expression. All perfect. All conveying a whole lotta info.

Which obv shows that the editor was a fucking idiot and should've told the writer to fucking trust the artist he'd been paired with. Also that the writer failed to notice it too.

Honestly, I gave up on the X-Men for the time being. I did read Old Man Logan for a bit because of the amazing art of Sorentino (like, damn, what amazing stuff) but dropped the book with the new current team.

Read the opening issues of X-Men Gold and Blue: ugh. Do appreciate the Gold approach where they try to be superheroes again.

Jim Zubb posted on twitter that there is a reason why books like Uncanny Avengers don't have legacy numbering, but he can't talk about it without without spoiling future plans for the series. He's also working on a new Marvel book that he says is the highest profile book so far in his career. He tweeted that he was working on it with Alanna Smith(Avengers assistant editor) in response to today's crap so that kinda narrows down the possibilities a bit.

Wouldn't it be in its 50s? Also it bothers me that Luke Cage and Iron Fist didn't both get Power Man and Iron Fist included in its legacy numbering, and just Luke Cage did.

I remember back in the day, Dwayne McDuffie got shit on from high heaven for making the Justice League "too black", because he added Vixen and Black Lightning.

This was the team, btw.

Aside from Hal and John that team looks rad as hell.

Retro call back. During the 90s there were multiple X-teams: Storm lead Gold and Cyclops lead Blue

The teams were followed under Uncanny X-Men and X-Men, respectively. I might be wrong though. I'm the least familiar with 90s X-Men.

I doubt it's as insanely dense as his Fantastic Four, though. Man, it's taking me forever to read this thing. And I'm certainly not saying it's bad. The stuff in here is very good. It's just WAY too wordy.

I got to that last panel with two little word balloons and was like, "YEEESS."

That is incredible lol. Comics from a different time. HB vol 1 is definitely not that dense, I'll say that straight up .Probably the biggest bug bear is there's almost always some form of narration going on on the page in addition to whatever it actually being spoken; tons of inner monologuing, often to provide info dumps as Coriolanus mentioned but even to re-iterate what is going on during action scenes, as they are happening on page haha that's where it almost feels like a novel put onto of a comic and most redundant. It would be one thing if the art couldn't convey the storytelling but it's really just the book finding it's groove. I wouldn't go in as strong as Cori though, I do enjoy that volume, more so with time to when I first read it, it just is the odd duck of the lot. The very next story, The Wolves Of St August is bereft of that kind of narration (plus really great and creepy, and includes Kate <3)

Wew, I binge read a lot yesterday.
Finished Night of the Monster Men, which was flawed but overall pretty good. Too little interesting development of the core idea, so basically the plot is interesting in part one and six, but the rest feels like needless complications for the sake of padding the story. Harsh words but as I said I still enjoyed it.
Supergirl Rebirth was trash, opaque shit for a new reader, but the series itself was pretty nice. The characters haven't yet had enough screen time to be developed (the 5-6 parts Rebirth story arcs galore sure didn't help) but what is there is enjoyable.
Then I read the first Justice League arc.

I think my OCD brain suffered for a time trying to make sense of this train wreck, then even it said fuck it and just read as fast as possible in order for it to end. It was really bad, but the thing that gets me is that there are a lot of plot seeds here, and I don't want to return to those fucking seeds ever again.
The Purge was Hitch doing his xth bad version of the Authority, the four 'elementals' were undecipherable and absolutely uninteresting, and I have not the slightest bit of curiosity about the people on the other world.
The writing was platinum shit and missed its shot every time it tried to catch my interest.

Dreadful. But hey, I'm stupid, so at the moment the plan is to soldier on. FML.

Depends. I think I have seen him alongside other Arkham inmates from time to time and I think he was in Batman: Arkham Asylum
