Condemned: Criminal Origins Was a Horror Milestone | Lost in Time

Don't know why this game is not on GOG. I replayed it last year on X360.

It has awesome atmosphere. Combat is simple, it motivates the player to use bullets wisely and the investigation side is cool.
I thought the levels were a little monotonous to be honest, especially when you are underground. The story is confusing and ambiguous but at the same time is interesting.

Anyway the game is fantastic! As for Condemned 2, i think the changes made it tedious to play.

I kinda wonder if a reboot with some fixes and tweaks would see it do well. It doesn't need to be a high budget title (kinda think the less detail can be effective in itself), but there's a potential there.

Does the game run better ona a xone compared to a x360?? like better res or framerate?

Because i can't map the controller on pc so if i wanna replay it, the xone is the only way i have but i'm not sure if i can digest 2000s resolutions and 30 choppy fps anymore.

Definitely one of the memorable horror games of that generation. I still have a working 360 and the game, maybe it’s worth revisiting one day.

I have yet to see the video, but I like to see someone thinking in the horror genre in videogames from a historic perpective and not yet another empty conversation about my company, my consoles, my exclusive games.

I don't know if this is a controversial opinion or not. But I absolutely LOVED the second game. That bear encounter omfg. The wild online mode that game had. So many insane ideas and I just loved smacking enemies in close combat. Such a wild game.

That second game is a lot like The Darkness to me. Hidden gems.

First game is amazing.

Second is, well it's something.
It sure is!

Couldn’t get into it cause the melee didn’t feel good (from what I remember), I thought the “Fear” demo was way more scary at the time. Gotta give both these games another try someday.

I remember its biggest crime being block being mapped to L3 or R3. It was painful.

I loved this game. I'd buy a collection instantly. The sequel was bonkers I remember. It's like the devs smoked meth before they went to work. Somehow that's a compliment.

The game is flawed but what it was trying to do was pretty fucking good.

The biggest issue is how almost no other dev studio took the baton and ran with it being more of a grounded, brutal, melee focused kind of survival horror/kind of detective thing/etc for quite some time.

It's like we (the gaming public of the 00s) all liked the first game, wanted and received a second game, and got upset by the end of that second game and then said, "Burn all this shit to the ground and let's forget this happened".

Only Indie horror games now are kind of exploring what Condemned did like 20 years ago, but it's odd almost no one else did.

I'm just replaying the game on the xone (i had to buy a digital copy because the pc version doesn't want to work with a controller) and the i almost forgot how crazy the ia in this game is.

This is LITERALLY what the fake tlou1 reveal promised in term of ia, it is still better than 99% of games today.

If you miss actually smart ia, play this fucking game, possibly on pc with m+k because the console looks and run like absolute crap.

Oh and the sound design\tension building is unrivaled, last game i played was the sh2 remake but this is just better (enemies being smarter also help)

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
FYI, anyone who picks this up on Xbox now, the game runs at a locked 45hz for some bizarre reason. If you have a VRR display, the game will be extremely smooth.
Hz or Fps.
if Hz then that's fucking weird, I don't think I've seen anything refresh below 50hz..

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

I use the term interchangeably, it's 45 fps on whatever your system is, works great for VRR displays since it falls within the VRR range on Xbox.

Condemned was the 1 game before the Xbox 360 console release that made me want to jump, not only Xbox from PlayStation 2, but into the next generation. I remember watching gaming shows at like 3 am on domestic TV and seeing the gameplay and being gobsmacked.

When I played it, it felt special and definitely a new generation of gaming. (Think I might've got it in a console bundled with Kameo, which is kinda funny if my memory is correct)
As for the game, I loved it. Atmosphere, combat, graphics, story, audio, etc. I would love an updated version or a sequel not locked to consoles like 2 was.
(Thought 2 was very good too, but the final boss fight left a source taste for me)

Haven't played or watched anything of it in years, so it might have some jank that would need updated, but overall, it does deserve some love. (Saw The Darkness mentioned, I would fucking love that game remade too)

I have no idea why they never ported the second game to Steam.

I was going to try it in the PS3 emulator. It says that it is not working, but the list is out of date.

Yeah. The RPCS3 is saying Condemned 2 is "in game", but that was way back in 2017.

So, I bet it totally works now.

Edit: It looks like that game works now, but has some graphical glitches. This was from 2 years ago.

Well, I tried Condemned 2 out in the emulator. The game is flickering like crazy. Unstable graphics. It seems to run fine.

Loved the first game, scared the shit out of me. Sequel never did it for me the same way. Was I alone in that? Should I give it another go?
