Everything was looking pretty good until this.
Not even touching on the allegations against the dude, that's a whole other conversation. But as a character it just kills the vibe to put a real-life person in what should be a self-contained, fictional game universe with an honest & earnest, semi-serious story. It's just such a tonal contrast and completely breaks my suspension of disbelief now that they're in the game.
And it could've been ANY real-life celebrity, mind you. I'd still have the exact same problem. Even doing crossovers with other fighting game characters is a bit of a stretch, but at least Fatal Fury & Street Fighter are "similar" enough in terms of style (let alone that FF literally started as an offshoot/unofficial spiritual successor to the original SF) that I can still see those streams crossing in a way, where the in-universe integrity isn't ruined. It's normal to see Mai alongside Chun-Li, or Ken alongside Terry. They're all characters I can believe would exist in the same universe, all things considered.
But say you try putting Sub-Zero in a SF game, and then that illusion of a consistent universe is just ruined. There's no way to reconcile that type of character (or any MK character) seriously existing in a Street Fighter reality. Let alone a real-life soccer player, because now it also just feels like outright product placement in addition to being corny AF and lame.
Actually ruins a lot of the COTW excitement for me, sadly.

It was a day one purchase for me, but now it looks like a deep, deep sale, like $10. This is just so fucking stupid.
I have MvC2 on modern consoles now.
I have the SF 30th Anniversary collection.
Now all I need is MK 1-3 and Shaolin Monks and Killer Instinct on PlayStation and I won't need anything else. Modern fighting games are butt.

both are garbage. with that being said. from my understanding this is not a paid dlc character and comes with the game no ? if thats the case then who cares, his play mechanic doesnt seem to have hand fighting so it could be fun. at worse when they dont have the licese they will just rename and resking the character and we move on.

Big fan of the GOAT, as Portuguese he gave alot to the country and football fans. But im not really a fan of these colabs for fighting games where you need to create a fighting style for someone that is not famous for fighting. Would make sense a colab with a famous wrestler or UFC fighter, but a football player, is hard to make it look good.
