Crysis 3 Open Beta starting Jan 29th

Crysis 3's MP is just as big a janky turd that C2's MP was.

Theres nothing here that says this is a must have at launch. the maps are dull and uninspiring and the gunplay and mechanics feel like shit. hell at least C2 had Skyline these maps and gametypes do little to get me to want the game.

pass~ I'll wait til it hits the bargain bin in a couple months to play the campaign, not worth the $60.

Hm, didn't enjoy this at all, which is weird because I had a few fun hours with the Crysis 2 multiplayer.

The graphics also seem to be a bit too much for the 360 (while really not looking great)

Crysis 3 has a skyline remake. Can you be a little more clear on what makes it so janky? Are you using a 360 controller? When I played 2 on the 360 I noticed how much less aim assist there was than most shooters, which I thought was a good thing. But on PC it feels very smooth to me.

edit: I also think airport is a great map. Lots of verticality, perfect mix between long and short lines of sight.

I agree, skyline was a good map. I think I might wait as well...

So is TXAA better than MSAA? 4x TXAA seems to work my system harder than 4x MSAA, haven't really fiddled enough, game keeps crashing when I switch AA modes.

playing on 360, it may be the lack of an adequate aim assist that makes it feel janky to me i guess. can't really pin point it. I guess I'll play some more but its more frustrating than fun at this point.

Like I said, I'm also not a fan of the maps or gametypes they've chosen to showcase their crown jewel either.

Part of what sold me on C2 was the MP beta with just standard TDM and Skyline. These maps are too spread out for my liking and C2's MP was best played on the smaller CQB maps because the sniping/ranged gunplay is kinda shitty TBH.

I don't use AMD myself but here's the new beta driver.

AMD Catalyst 13.2 Beta 3 for Windows

Improves performance up to 15% in high MSAA cases for the Crysis 3 beta release
Future updates will be made to AMD Catalyst 13.2 Beta to further improve performance in Crysis 3 for both single GPU and CrossFire configurations

Significantly improves latency performance in Skyrim, Boderlands 2, and Guild Wars 2
Improves single GPU performance up to 50% for DmC Devil May Cry
Improves CrossFire performance up to 10% for Crysis 2
Resolves Texture flickering seen in DirectX9.0c applications.

This just seems like a modded Crysis 2 MP pretty much. Almost everything is the same except a few new modifications to the suit and gametypes.

Running at almost a steady 60 with everything on high except motion blur at medium and vsync off. Also, playing at 1440x900 so that makes a pretty big difference.

i5 2500k
560ti

Game really is stunning. Much better art quality than the mess that was Crysis 2.

Agreed. It's pretty ass.

The beta is worth the download just for the sound the Typhoon gun (default gun for C.E.L.L. in hunter mode) makes

I hope someone mods infinity ammo into that in the SP jsut to fool around with.

Only thing shitty about that kind of gun play are the penetration glitches the engine has but whether it's mp or sp it still effects everyone.

I'm getting horrible mouse lag in this game, like no other fps game I've ever played. Can't be just me right? It feels awful.

Game's pretty fun imo.

Runs alright with a single 7970 provided you don't use MSAA. I've settled for using at controller and locking the framerate at 30, which this game thankfully does well.

I like hunter mode, but when crash site comes up I immediately leave the server.

Tip: Hunters have one sticky explosive arrow, use it. Specially when dudes start holing up in the sewers of Airport.

I didnt like the multiplayer in the beta for C2, but this I like. Not necessarily the game modes, but the game feels better and more crisp. And it definitely looks better with a colorful but clear art direction instead of the glossy mess that was Crysis 2.

This game is phenomenal at locking the framerate at 30. I also agree about the game being fun (I'm really enjoying Crash Site).

I'm the exact opposite, I don't even enable Hunter Mode when I look for a match.

I already got to level and and did that prestige/suit reboot.

Using the Bow in the king of the hill mode is really awesome.

the netcode is straight up garbage on console, its actually a step backwards from C2.

Its becoming painfully clear Crytek is only good at pushing the visuals. The rest of their "technology", and design for that matter, is pretty shitty.

Its fitting that they're in control of Homefront 2.

Game is a monster at 5760x1080 maxed getting 10fps with an i5+GTX690 going to 1080 it goes up to 40-55fps

Multi game demo its self is kinda meh. Pretty boring so far. No biggie as Crysis games are always about the single player IMO.

Haven't downloaded the MP beta, but I did preorder C3 on Origin because I skipped Crysis 2 on PC and lost my discs of Crysis 1 (you get the previous games with the gold-plated edition).

The MP on Crysis 3 will be a hacker-filled desolate wasteland within weeks, just like Crysis 2. But I'm actually sort of looking forward to the campaign and trying to port Crysis 1 levels to the new engine :) And maybe Crytek will be actually support modders this time ..... NAHHHHHHH just kidding that won't happen.

the first one was, the 2nd failed on both aspects

This is pretty fun. Running a 7870 without overclocking, and having to play on low to achieve maximum performance. My processor (i3 540)'s probably letting me down, right? Atleast the game plays alot better than the Alpha.

Anyway, the game still looks amazing on low, and the gameplay is a step up from Crysis 2. Power weapons such as shields keep the matches exciting (the Alien-Sniper is fantastic). Movement feels more fluid, and the game play is bettered by the seperation of Stealth and Armour suit functions (although auto-armour keeps getting me killed as I am used to tapping Q when hurt).

It surpasses Crysis 2, and actually reminds me of the older style of FPS (Unreal, Quake). I'm actually jumping over people and shooting, sliding and shooting, jumping and shooting. Pretty cool stuff.

That's weird, I'm using shitty 7660G Integrated graphics and I can run the game. Surely a discrete card could as well?

Yeah, I don't know why. Funniest thing is that I played the alpha version for a couple of hours, without problems.

I don't mind though, I'll hold off Crysis until I get a new PC.

Some top notch level design in the airplane map. A ton of routes and you can make use of nano suit abilities well. Some good eye candy as well.

Crash-site is very solid game mode and it's nice to see Crytek pushing it rather than boring DM/TDM. Hunter mode is a ton of fun as well.

Kill highlight reel at the end of the round is a nice touch.

Assault rifle has an absurd kick/bullet spread. It's pretty difficult to kill people with it because people run so fast :/

Overall, it's pretty fun and distinctive enough from COD to be worthwhile.
