Don't know why I expected higher resolutions than this, or well, maybe I didn't but those goddamned "insiders" kept blabbing on about DLSS and tech like that, lmao.

You've never played a Switch game emulated in 4K on PC, have you?

I did, it's still not a huge difference for this type of game.

large relatively flat colored surfaces do not benefit from high resolutions as much as small detail with even smaller inner-surface detail.

Wow, so basically Switch 2 shits all over the Deck!
That's not really how porting works.

There are console games running better than PCs with greater specs, doesn't mean "Consoles shit all over PC"

Just look at the recent recommended specs for TLOU2 on PC for what is essentially console quality. vs the strength of the PS5

System saviour an upscaler? why, how?
Dude please. Don't act like you're retarded.

With a AI upscaler you can easily run heavier games in lower rendering modes to make the console more future proof. Without this functionality they have to brute force the rendering.

Thank you for explaining what an upscaler does! You're such a genius!

Now, how is that saving a console that parents won't be very enthused to buy for their kids because of absurd high prices?

In the end software sells systems. But wouldn't it be nice if major Call of Duty and GTA games could be running on it due to a upscaler?

Quick specs summary for the games:

MK World: 1440p60
Donkey Kong: 1080p60
Duskbloods: 1080p30 (with stable frame pacing)
Elden Ring: 1080p30? (capture seems juddery but frame pacing is stable, likely a higher frame rate or uncapped converted to 30FPS video)
Cyberpunk 2077: 720p~1080p30 (one shot at 540p30 but seems to be from handheld mode, includes DLC that wasn't possible on last gen)
FF7 Remake: 1080p30 (with frame pacing issues)
THPS3+4: 4k60

Botw/totk S2: 1440p60
Metroid Prime: Seems 4k but unable to be sure because of AA
Bu but 4k@120fps ?

You think upscalers are voodoo magic...If SW2 is PS4 level GPU there's no way in hell a game like GTA6 would be playable at any resolution. COD I can see Warzone being playable on it.

I was thinking; rendering at 360p and upscale to 720 with 30fps.

It's not only a matter of lowering the res. to a stain on the screen I'm afraid.
I just hope the S2 can have a good lifespan. Imo, without upscale, it can't last longer than 5 Max 6 years. 3rd party titles are already on the edge of what is acceptable.

Well, it's an extremely disingenuous comparison. There are a huge number of moving parts here.

1) All we got was a tiny glimpse from a sizzle real clip that ubisoft themselves presumably submitted. It could be 100% bullshot.
2) Comparing a port of a game specifically designed for a console vs a full fat PC version with all of its overhead running through a compatibility layer is laughable. It's just not apples to apples.
3) The footage they submitted is very likely to be running in docked mode, where the Switch 2 clocks significantly higher to support 4k output. Early leaks show the dock at 60 watts, meaning the switch itself probably clocks up to 45 or so, which is why there is a built in cooler. More wattage > more heat.

The steam deck by comparison is a 15 watt handheld and it doesn't go higher than that, docked or otherwise. One of the biggest limitations of the steam deck - is the TPD.

We'll see just how big a difference that makes when playing the game docked vs handheld this time around.

Bigger battery means heavier and bigger console. Do you think the main nintenda audience which is kids and housewives will buy a brick sized handheld console?
I agree and that's why I would have hoped the console would be more future proof with new energie efficient DLSS techniques.

Doesn't have the CPU nor the SSD speed for a game like GTA 6 even at 30 fps. For COD MS will cook up some version eventually maybe.
Black Ops 6 MP should be EASILY manageable on Switch 2. Warzone seems like the perfect game to have issues along the lines of Fortnite. That game just became heavier and heavier for the Switch to handle.

Not sure about Black Ops Campaign.

So weak mobile hardware as expected, no sign of the saviour DLSS, yet, and ....well not much else.

Why would Nintendo use Nvidia's special inhouse technology that requires training on Nvidia's supercomputers which means a PC version needs to exist to work?
absolute and utter nonsense. DLSS does not require per-game training.....

Power will be the least of their worries. SW1 is 8 years old, and it will continue selling decent hardware and software numbers for at least 3 more years. Hell, it may last way longer than that if SW2 takes long to catch fire.

Underwhelming.

The Switch 2 is almost the exact same size as the steam deck. It's 0.1 inch shorter and 1 inch less wide, but it's pretty close. Everyone thought the SD was MASSIVE when it came out. The thickness of the unit actually helps with long term comfort. Physical size aside, the SD is ridiculously ergonomic and comfortable to use for a long time. One of my biggest complaints about the original switch was that it's SO thin and it lacks any sort of real grip contour that it's not very comfortable to hold for a long period unless you have tiny hands.

The switch 2 is already dimensionally large. Increasing the thickness slightly to accommodate a significantly larger battery would have not only extended playtime but make the device a lot more holdable. The steam deck is also only 5.3 ounces heavier than the switch 2.

So maybe the switch 2 is already more of a brick than you realize.

I could imagine Nvidia requiring nintendo to purchase a license to use DLSS and they said no. More likely is that the performance is not there to use it
DLSS is free to use.

Performance could be a culprit but supposedly similar mobile hardware can do it as we know.
It`s wait and see if it will just materialize a bit later or if someone will step forward and give a valid reason as to why it isn`t there.

Yeah,
  • Without dock
  • 90 Hz
  • No HDR
  • No VRR
  • Bulky as fuck
  • 720p
  • Tinkering more than a desktop PC
  • Most online games not supported because of anti cheat not liking proton layer

Steam deck is nice extra when you have a desktop PC but it's not a switch 2 alternative.. well especially since you buy Nintendo console for Nintendo games..

Also the mouse controls on switch 2, I mean, things add up.

Steam deck 2, in which Valve timeline? Who knows when? What price? Still doesn't play switch 2 games.
??
Dock is useless on Deck.
Bulky but more ergonomically comfortable.
Every online game works on Windows on it.

Almost any device can output in 4k but not many device can run DLSS and the best version of it.

Good thing we already know this chipset supports DLSS. Whether Nintendo intends to use it or use their own proprietary solution(we already know about the patent) is another matter.

But i was told switch 2 couldn't run these games

Yea, Nvidia engineers made a custom SoC for Nintendo with tensor cores but they'll just remain dormant, because.... errr... derp

Are you peoples stupid?

Its even in the github leak for the T234.

Will it be used in handheld? No. That's the purpose of Nintendo's inhouse upscaling which is only for low energy cost. Will Nintendo use DLSS? No probably not. They patented their own. Is it ready? Who knows. Nobody does. Reminder that AMD delayed 2 months the launch of the RDNA 4 for FSR4.

But devs will have broad choices to pick from, including DLSS of fucking course.

Fully agree. Very very distinct platforms.
Not only that, almost nobody gives a shit about PC handhelds.

What did Steamdeck sell? 6M? Absolutely laughable.

PC handhelds shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as Switch. Completely different ballparks.

Fortnite will probably run worse than on PS4 Pro.

There are NEW Switch 2 previews up on YouTube channel GVG. Extensive preview and hands on footage of MP!!! Nintendo Life as well. They had a secret preview.

8nm confirmed? DLSS?
DLSS is great, but its not a magic trick, for it to work as best as possible, since its artifical inteligence upscaling(aka ai is filling up the blanks thinking how pixels from lower res gonna look in higher res) best scenario would be for it to upscale from highest possible resolution (think from 1440p or even from 1620 to 4k).

And ofc the bigger gpu chip it is, the better its gonna be at ai upscaling, the thing is- switch2 has tiny gpu, which is from ampere generation( 8nm process node, 30xx series cards from nvidia) so its ai upscaling(dlss) capabilities are relatively small vs not even 3k usd 5090 but even 550usd msrp rtx 5070- and it makes sense, that 550$ 5070 has 250W tdp(power usage) on its own and is 2 gens younger vs what switch2 has.
Here some DF vids for u to get more info, straight from digital foundry:

If it was a miracle cure with no downsides and cheap you don't think Nintendo would be there?
