Do you think Gaming-only news sites are just totally irrelevant now?

Ever since Game Informer was shut down, I find myself not really having a solid news outlet for gaming specifically anymore. I just sort of absorb news through twitter or here on Neogaf, or on rare occasion youtube, but I don't feel like there are any websites left that specialize solely in video game news.

It seems like IGN has stretched to become much more "general entertainment", and I've honestly just always been super skeptical of the site; it's always felt more like an advertising platform, rather than genuinely independent and honest criticism and reviews or previews of games.

I'm hoping that maybe I'm just unaware of some really good sites. But I also worry a bit that the people who are genuinely interested in gaming *news* are such a minority, that there's just not enough interest to sustain a site anymore?

I used to frequent Gamespot a lot but ever since they branched to other topics, I lost interest.

Game Developer (formerly Gamasutra) is excellent even though its been around forever.

Yeah, they are, they hired non gaming activist's and give awful biased reviews and high scores for mediocre or straight up bad games, then attack the fans when they don't like the games or agree, i can't speak for anyone else but i don't read or take any notice of them anymore, even PC Gamer, they are done and it's their own fault,

Not at all. How else would I know which cisgender xenophobes from my favorite Nintendo games are actually closet social warriors? Number 4 was truly shocking!

gematsu is the only good news site, because it's pure news, no opinions.
IGN actually has pretty good guides though, they should just do that instead of their "journalism".
+ one for Gematsu, no opinion
just don't watch the comments, mostly are crappy comment there

Try to avoid just one source of gaming news (including GAF). There’s too much bias in today’s world and it’s better to check multiple sources for any fact checking than just one place.

That being said, yes, gaming has mostly moved on from traditional mediums.

theres a few good one ,that really give gaming news not common like gamingbolt or gamepur. they are my favorite but honestly the gaming world has stalled compeltly this generation. i dont even feel like looking anythig up as the game devs suck today

In the traditional sense, yes. There's still some decent writers etc out there, but the big sites are pretty much irrelevant to me as they clearly chase the money.

Weird bump. But yes and no. Gematsu and maybe Siliconera are still largely just gaming news.

Everything else is an ad platform or click bait opinion piece. A proper game journalist website is pointless and most companies will black list you for real journalism, it's that simple. But factual news that Gematsu covers is fine.

They tend to have the same exact issue of the development side of the industry these days: they see their own audience with nothing but contempt and have the frequent tendency to talk down to it, preach to it and so on.

To much word for new generations of gamers to read.

TikTok and YouTube shorts are their attention span now.

Reading a 500 word article?!?!

Damn it, I got all excited then by the Gematsu recommends and I immediately noticed their articles had loads of user comments attached to them which is often the quickest indicator of a popular site in good health. But then I noticed the focus of the entire site is gay Japanese animé shit and JRPGs. Ffs, the search continues.

No. Bad gaming-only sites are irrelevant. I still enjoy great ones. Not American ones though, something weird has happened on that continent.

absolutely. I don't go to any.
I just visit few forums and discords.
And if I didn't do that, it's all on twitch on youtube.

bespoke websites are nonsense and I don't understand why anyone would ever type www ign in their browser

I don't trust any of those anymore. I think most are biased/bribed. For the same reason Metacritic and "expert" awards are just entertaining to me, but otherwise completely irrelevant.

Of all bumps...

But yeah nah, I think I have been on a gaming news website once in the past... five to six years?
Haven't read a single review either, probably since 2013.

I hope they all disappear eventually.

For me anyway, there was a time when IGN was my absolute source.
I felt for years that their reviews fell in line with my views. That is long gone and i had been with them through the PSX/N64.Com days if i recall correctly. Even had their subscription service i enjoyed to post on their message boards.

These days i don't like their people, the agendas, and my views on their reviews obviously don't align. (As if it mattered anyway) - It is however neat when you can trust them.

At this point, I can't recommend any. Youtube trailers or the mention of new games on this site, or just random news that appears for me.

Its definitely not like it used to be. Can't trust peer reviews either, personal thoughts are TOO personal instead of focusing on the actual game itself.

Honestly, these days I'll just "try a game out" and if I like it, I'll buy it.
