Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake has sold more than 2 million units worldwide

Great to see, hopefully this shows SE that people VERY MUCH still like and care about turn based, it wouldn't kill them to make at least ONE mainline FF game with turn based combat.

DQ3 combat is fucking booooooooring. The game is only playable because you can speed it up and use the auto battle options. No idea why anybody would want a new FF game to play like this.

Oh well, maybe when the next mainline FF comes out in 6 years it'll be turn based, then all the turn based purists can finally feel whole again.

I'm gonna be honest, even at Ultra speed, the combat felt slow in this.

There should have just been an option to skip the animation for attack whips etc and just instant connects.

Just imagine there was no combat speedup and no boomerangs or whips in the NES version.

Well deserved! An amazing remake, can't wait for 1 and 2.

It's a 36 year old battle system, what did you expect? And there are plenty of people who still find very basic turn based RPGs engaging.

Already outselling other JRPG games that were getting more exposure by western media than DQ3R.

Yakuza infinite wealth
Persona 3 Remake
Metaphor
Gran Blue Fantasy Relink
Visions of mana

And about to outsell these titles in the next couple of months

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
Final Fantasy 16
Dragon's Dogma 2

Excellent result, good game has good sales. Although I would be very interested to know what percentage of these 2,000,000, only Japanese players made. (60-70%) :messenger_grinning:

DQ combat was aways booooooooring as hell, but back in the day we didnt had anything to compare, if DQ12 launch with the same dated combat, it ll be just for die hard fans of the series.
At least modern DQ doesn't have random encounters anymore.

When I emulated DQ8 I had to use a cheat code.

at least half, launch week was like 900k in JP physical sales alone

1. Square doesn't need anything to show them this, they are the ones that made this, how would they not know?

2. The sales of theses games if anything supports that they'll keep those turned based games to stuff like this and btw Bravely Default and Octopath Traveler is the FF you are looking for

I don't know why "One mainline FF" is a requirement, they are all different games in the first place, replace the fucking name of Bravely Default 1 and 2 ta da you have Final Final Fantasy XV and XVI in some alternate universe

Why it NEEDS to be called Final Fantasy is beyond me lol

Be happy you got a turned based game by them vs this weird thing with semantics over a title. I don't know if you'll ever get FF series back to that, at least not permanently. What ever you want from a FF title that is turned based will just be made into Bravely Default 3 lol

Yup! Thank to this game I'm super hype DQ1&2 remake.

Sir..........day 1

Curious on the ROI, development costs for the game must be pretty low end. Need more of theses games, but investors wouldn't be happy with such reasonable profits.

No no no, let's not break the good traditions, in a couple of weeks we expect a statement from Square Enix that the game's sales did not meet expectations. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Japan will be doing the heavy lifting here, probably around 1.5mil of that, but still very impressive. It will probably be one of those games that remains on the Switch charts in Japanese sales for some time. This also bodes well for DQ12 (assuming a Switch 2 release and port down from UE5) although the budget for that will be multiples of this!

I'm certain this cost a lot less to make than 16 while selling for around the same price. A much lower bar for them to be in the green on this.

While still likley true. There was an dev saying that 2d hd Pixel Art is alot more expensive than most gamers think it is.
