Dragon's Dogma Online

Just wanted to bring this to your attention: Dragon's Dogma Online has been revived, it's fully playable and currently has multiple servers that offer different approaches to the game:
  • DDON Server: basically the closest to the original.
  • Dogma Rising: smaller server, with a few more custom tweaks. They've blunt some of the MMO grindiness to give a more pure Dragons Dogma experience. Leveling seems faster, and money/blood orbs seem more readily available.
I've tried Dogma Rising for a little bit and I was pleasantly surprised to realize that it plays and feels just like the original Dragon's Dogma. The server seems to be constantly being worked on and getting updates. Just recently they added the Bitterblack Maze.

If you want to try it out, just follow the instructions here (go to Public Servers section). It's very easy, just dowload, set which server you want to play on, make an account (just username and password, doesnt even require an email) and play.

I'm very excited for this. DD2, while fun, was disappointing to me due to the lack of challenge, dungeons and monster variety. Don't know about the challenge but DDO seems to have lots of different locales and a way bigger bestiary than any of it's predecessors. It also has some unique vocations like the Alchemist, who punches stuff with gold, or the High Scepter, which seems to be some kind of blend between melee and magic.

It also was directed by Kinoshita, who also was the director of Dark Arisen, so I'd expect quality stuff here.

Anyway, very excited to be able to play more Dogma. Hope my GAF dogmabros jump in and give it a try.

Oh snap this is an official thing!? Never heard of it!
It's anything but official! Capcom havent given a single fuck since they closed their online division.

But yeah, thanks to the talented and hardworking fans we can finally enjoy this game, translated, and even balanced for single-player if you so desire.

Is this something like that server system that let me play Halo online with my friends out of state? What was it called? Xconnect? Something like that. So fans basically set up servers that allow you to play the game online in multiplayer?

That's kinda sick.

Yeah! You can play the game whenever and even use the multiplayer features. People running the server say that money is no problem, so I don't expect the server going down anytime soon.

Appreciate the thread OP, I remember playing DD-ON early days having to use a Capcom jp account, VPN and English patching the client on each update.
Loaded this last night and it was a breeze to setup, on the normal server I saw only 1 person online though, hopefully more people jump on.

How "beginner friendly" is it for people who have never played DD?
It could have a better tutorial, but it's not complicated. Only quirk is that instead of character level you level your vocation (class), and you can change it freely at the city.

Wow really? I followed that project for a while but last time I checked (maybe a year ago, I think less) it seemed like it was years away from being really playable in a normal way, I remember you could play it alone but most stuff wasn't accessible, what happened for it to progress to a fully playable online build so quickly??
That's great news!

I played it 10 years ago, using a VPN to log in, and I couldn't understand anything japanese so I was kind of going blind, but still managed to progress quite a bit, until I couldn't play anymore because the vpn trick on the launcher stopped working and we had to stay connected to a VPN all the time.
It's really a shame this never released anywhere else. Will definitely try that!

Been playing for a few hours and so far it's pretty good. There's not much of a story so far but who cares, the action is just as good as DD1 and the enemy variety is great, even just at the start of the game. The world seems way bigger than DD1's and it seems filled with places and dungeons. Good stuff.

Only thing I'm missing is more verticality in the dungeons, loved climbing everywhere in the other Dogma games. But who knows maybe there'll be some of that later on.
