Edge Magazine is what we call in spanish a gafapastas (hipster or nerd) magazine.

I cant take them seriously

Edge gave Halo Infinite an 8, Indy an 8. FH5 a 9. They just hated Hellblade 2 (which is barely a game), and Avowed is kind of average in their book. Usually a 6 from Edge is a 7 or 8 elsewhere, which lines up with some of the bigger outlets like Gamespot, IGN and Eurogamer.

The biggest outlier here is Civ, which is supposedly a broken product.

I doubt you've even played the game. And EDGE reviews have always been shit and with each issue, they looked to give a score tothe game that will get people to talk about it
I've seen enough gameplay. It's another Outer Worlds just worse. Ugly characters and poor writing. At least Outer Worlds has a better vibe to it. The game is mid. Just accept it. Has nothing to do with Microsoft and Xbox and all to do with Obsidian not being the same studio it once was. Edge gave GoW Ragnarok a 7 I believe. Which honestly i didn't enjoy Ragnarok so I can agree with that score.

Yes edge is pretty accurate, but sometimes too political / can still miss some games. The 8/10 for KCD2 is really weird for example, usually they like systems heavy games

I havent seen any complaints about about that.

I've seen plenty of complaints about the terrible UI, bugs, lack of information/tutorials and consensus that the Age Transitions just kind of suck.

Well it's a new Civ so no shit everyone complains.

To me it's a major improvement in basic game concept from 5 or 6.

Anyway the basic normal new Civ noise is there, augmented by the crying about characters present and missing.

Sniper Elite being a 5 is crap. The game is great! Yes it doesn’t do anything ground breaking since the last game but it’s still really good fun.

The score is pretty much in line with the reception the game has had on Steam.

It looks painfully average in every respect. If you've never played previous entries in the series then it might feel fresh, but if you have then there's pretty much nothing new.

A masterpiece sitting with the same score as a bunch of forgettable as fuck games

Edge scoring Civ VII a 9 is really surprising considering all the problems it has

That Avowed score is pretty harsh too
Nah, Avowed scored exactly what I expected from them.
I'm more surprised about KCD getting an 8. Not because it doesn't deserve it, but because it seemed the type of game EDGE would generally demolish for not being "frictionless" enough for their taste.

A 9 to Civ VII is a complete misfire, anyway. I'd bet the reviewer was someone who was charmed by the production value and sleek presentation, but with very little familiarity with the mechanics of the series.

The noise is mostly the UI and the fact that you're forced to change civilization every new age, from what I can see. Probably also the racism, though.
Throwing down racism card at Civ reviews is ridiculous.

UI is unfinished, game was buggy AF (and still is), Civ change at every age with no connection annoyed fans, and you have a ton of Civs and leaders you would expect in a Civ game locked behind very expensive DLC.

But sure it’s racism and misogyny that is driving reviews scores down.

That Civ 7 score surprises me, because all I've heard about it has been a step down vs other entries.
It's different, not really a step down at all. Everyone that played and loved Civ 6 doesn't like it, because it's not Civ 6. Same happens with every Civ game pretty much.

I'll take your word for it, I just haven't seen a user review average be that low on Steam for a civ game in a while.
