EXCLUSIVE | Microsoft plans Starfield launch for PlayStation 5

Tears in the rain

For many weeks now, rumours have persisted regarding Microsoft's intentions to release a number of 1st party games – namely Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves – on rival platforms. According to our sources, who have asked to remain anonymous because they were not authorised to talk about company plans, that list of games also includes Bethesda Game Studio's Starfield.

Starfield released back in August of 2023 to fairly positive reception (despite the narrative that now exists online), and was the biggest Bethesda game launch of all time, surpassing 6 million players within a week of release.

Now it looks as though Microsoft are planning on bringing Betheda's newest RPG universe to an entirely new platform – PlayStation 5.

According to sources, we understand that currently Microsoft are planning a launch for Starfield on PlayStation 5 post the release of the already announced "Shattered Space" expansion for Xbox and PC, which is on target to arrive at some point later this year. We've also been informed that Microsoft have made additional investment into PlayStation 5 dev kits to support ongoing development efforts – adding further fuel to the fire.

Of course. Dumb Xbox fans have not bought the game since they played it on Gamepass, so financially the game was very unsuccessful, so in order to make some money game need to be sold on other consoles.

You want exclusives: buy your games. Devs won't be making games that are not bought, I can't even comprehend how Xbox fans don't understand this very simple fact.

I don't care about Starfield but if this true, it just goes to show you that putting press releases about record engagement tells you all you need to know about the financial success of this game and the model generally.

Possible, but everyone is milking the current drama for clicks with 'exclusive' rumors from 'sources'.

Not doubting this ends up happening, but I don't buy that XboxERA got a scoop on this because...well...they don't have any credible insiders.

If this were Windows Central, I'd prob believe it more because Jez seems to have some inside track with some people at Microsoft's gaming division. He's basically an advertising mouthpiece for Xbox as a brand (despite mainly playing WOW on PC).

Too late the well is tainted.
I will sell some copies of course but it won't sell as well it could have had the game been there day 1 when people were ignorant of the game's mediocrity.

This should be the last Xbox console.

It's crazy how badly they failed. Couldn't make a good exclusive to save their fucking lives. That's what it boils down to
