Oculus store is less locked down now. They have started officially allowing OpenXR titles that will work on other hardware on their store.Oculus since being purchased by facebook has tried to lock everything into an ecosystem excluding any other type of Device... Valve has built SteamVR so you can enjoy your games on any device of your choosing.. thanks to FB? seriously?
By mobile standards, the GPU is very much a "monster," with 1.3 TFlops, but you're right that those gains are probably going to be eaten up by the resolution and framerate increases in a lot of cases. Or we'll see games running at way sub-native res.2k screens and maybe 90fps, i hope that the gpu is gonna be a monster or you are not gonna see a real jump in graphics with this thing...and maybe that's why they showed quest1 games in the spot...

SteamVR was always a proprietary standard too, the way it works is non-native and not too different from how Revive works. But now both store fronts are starting to transition to OpenXR, so the future looks good.
Not really, the Oculus Quest 2 nativly supports PCVR out of the box. They are heading towards a truly mobile VR headset IMO. They are working together with Virtual Desktop dev to bring wireless PCVR to the Quest 2 also, if it doesn't already support out from launch, which I would not be surprised.Except Oculus is moving their devices away from PC entirely torwards self contained closed platforms.
They're not moving away from PC, they're still developing games for PC and supporting all their devices on PC. Quest is the "console" of the VR world (or perhaps the Switch), yes, but I don't see how it could be anything but.Except Oculus is moving their devices away from PC entirely torwards self contained closed platforms.

I believe so, I think it will be a single LCD screen but you will be able to physically move lenses (and what is displayed on screen will be adjusted in software).my bad, I guess it could be a single panel and still have the lenses more physically for physical IPD? I thought it has to have two separate screens to have that but I guess not? Sorry for assuming (if wrong, I'm not entirely sure on this being possible at all, lol).
Kinda, I think you're maybe thinking of MobiIe VR than wireless vr as a whole.Wireless VR by it's very nature will only be able to do high quality mobile graphics. Thankfully that means Facebook has ceded high quality vr to Valve and Playstation for this next generation.
Like it or not this is the real VR benchmark. Tetherless, room scale, and cheap enough that people can justify it like a gaming console.
When the Quest on its own reaches the quality of the current Valve Index hooked up to a beefy gaming rig, all for $300-$500, then VR will have arrived.
My bad you're correct, I meant mobile vr.Kinda, I think your maybe thinking of MobiIe VR than wireless vr as a whole..
I play PCVR wirelessly through the quest well enough with PCVR graphics but I do have to be in close proximity to my router so its not truly mobile but it definitely is wireless and with PCVR graphics. I have a feeling the Quest 2 will do wireless PCVR even better also.
Heads up - the actual event is on in around 4 hours. You can stream it here: https://www.facebookconnect.com/en
Hopefully we'll get the price, refresh rate, an in depth look at the hardware, the new features and new games.
The sad news is there will be no John Carmack tech talk this year.
I read Carmack will be talking, even though he has moved on to other things.Heads up - the actual event is on in around 4 hours. You can stream it here: https://www.facebookconnect.com/en

I've just checked and he actually is doing his annual unscripted tech talk.
Yeah, I just saw it too. He wasn't actually supposed to be doing it anymore after stepping down. I'm guessing he played a huge role in Quest 2 so he has a lot to say about it. Can't wait.I read Carmack will be talking, even though he has moved on to other things.
In some ways, although I still have my reservations about they tracking. They added more cameras but not enough/in the right places to give it tracking volume competitive with Oculus' stuff.the hp reverb g2 is going to be way better than this data stealer
The Reverb G2 isn't a standalone VR device. It's a competitor to the Rift not the Quest.the hp reverb g2 is going to be way better than this data stealer
Your probably right, That extra 100 is better spent on the Quest 2 Elite Strap with Battery and Carrying Case £119.00Thanks! $299 is not bad at all although a 128 GB model would have been ideal. I don't think I need 256 GB.

I feel like most games when I tried out the first quest were 5 gigs or so. Unless you want to have a libarary on it at all times 64 gb is enough.I'm at the pre-order screen and can't decide lol! I feel like 64 gb is just too freaking too little.
Interesting, they just talked about Quest 2 being "the best way to experience Rift titles" via Oculus Link.
Can you hook this up to a PC and get better performance on PCVR games? Say if you want to play half life alyx and have a high end pc, will this work?
ign had a review up already?
