So I guess Sony isn't stocking the old PS5 model at all, which means this is all the stock that still remains to be cleared until the PS5 slim arrives in stores.

> Jim Ryan steps down (fired)

> Newest COD does not get platinum trophies

> Xbox outsells Playstation in Japan

The tables have turned.

I actually had to do a double take. Just scrolling, I naturally assumed second place would fall to the PS5. Then I read the comments.

Also interesting to see Series X outselling Series S by almost 6 fold.

I had to look at it three times to make sure I was looking at the right. Are PS5s on low supply in prep for the PS5 slim?

So honestly............this seems super stupid on Sony's part. Unless they know what the demand and their supply will be. What number of PS5s would they have to sell in the first week to make up for their stupid allocation issues?

100,000? 150,000?
Retailers hate obsolete stock, better to let them clear it out, as sony is probably liable for unsellable units, any lost sales will be recovered in the following few weeks,

They don't care about 40-50K a week in Japan. They need units in the US.

Yes, and this is my fear about today's Playstation leaders.

They can easily make up the sales in Japan, they need to sell as many units in North America as they can as quickly as they can. They have no competition in Japan from Xbox, particularly this holiday season.

Your fear is that their leadership understands the market?

I think this is the third or fourth week where Xbox has outsold them. But as expected Nintendo continues to absolutely dominate Japan. The Switch 2 is going to have another seven year death grip on the sales charts.

Pretty remarkable how Sony destroyed all the goodwill they built up there under Jim Ryan.

Look at the Lifetime Totals.
They don't really need to do anything, when the new hardware launches the situation regularize.

I agree that a few low weeks won't make too much difference, but I think an argument can be made that Switch is a stronger competitor to PS5 in Japan than Xbox Series is to PS5 in the US.

PlayStation is fucked. Sales were so good but they've crashed. Xbox is the new traditional home console king. I can't fucking believe it. PlayStation better fight back next week or I riot.

I'm waiting for the spin from Microsoft how they out sold Sony in japan, leaving off some crucial details.
Did hell freeze over?

That PS5 figure is really pathetic.. even with shortages. There's no sugar coating it.

I hope a lot of people are waiting for the redesign.
