[Weekly software and hardware sales figures] "Super Mario Party Jamboree" tops the charts for the sixth time! "Momotaro Dentetsu World" and "Nintendo Switch Sports" return to the top 10 due to demand for Christmas and New Year's holidays [12/9-12/15]

Sales ranking announced by Famitsu. Here is a summary of the estimated weekly sales figures for video game software and hardware from December 9th to December 15th, 2024.

Super Mario Party Jamboree, which allows you to control characters from the Super Mario series and play over 110 different mini-games, continues to perform well. Sales have increased by about 22,000 units compared to last week, making it the sixth time in 8 weeks to top the charts. Sales are expected to increase further around Christmas and New Year when demand increases.

The second, third, and fourth places remained unchanged with Dragon Quest III: And into the Legend..., Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Minecraft ranking. DQIII maintained sales of over 50,000 units this week. Both Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Minecraft are steadily increasing their sales and we can expect continued sales in the future.

Also during this time, there is high demand for titles that can be played by multiple people and Momotaro Dentetsu World: The Earth Revolves on Hope! and Nintendo Switch Sports, which were not in the top 10 last week have once again made it into the top 10.

Switch moved almost 100k units this past week 😳, and the PS5 is back to the new normal now that the BF promotion has ended.

As for the software charts, I'm glad to see that Squeenix has continued to restock DQ3 in a timely manner. Other than that, yeah, it's a NSW domination up there.

(March or May) is going to be a bloodbath.

It’s not even going to rate as a “Console Skirmish” much less a console war.

Wait…is that the original switch model that sold 17k units? Maybe the latest Mario kart bundled one? That is bananas.

Despite a successor right around the corner, Switch moved nearly 100k units in a single week, what a juggernaut!

DQIIIR Switch version made up 80% of total units sold in Japan, and that's a big enough signal for Square Enix to treat Nintendo platform carefully with the release of the next mainline game. Switch version alone is enough to push ~2.5m units worldwide.

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
I thought there'd be an overall uptick towards the holidays (with certain big days as the major bumps) but I guess not for everyone, lol. Dang, Switch is such a beast.

I thought they should ditch the original switch and focus on the other models till the Switch 2 is released, but clearly there is still a market for it. The perfect switch to bundle a game with.

I thought DQIII could top the chart given its placement in retailer rankings, but Jamboree is just too crazy!

Echoes of Wisdom is doing strongly too, way better than the Link's Awakening remake.

DQXII on Switch could probably have done 2.5 million just in Japan if it came out this year.

Feel sorry for any Japanese kids that got a ps5 for Xmas. Sorry kids no games for you but here’s a pack of dusters till monster hunter comes out next year.

Nintendo was on the right track with a home console that you can also take wherever you want. Everyone now scrabbling to chase after them with handheld console talk. Maybe chasing after cutting edge graphics wasn’t the best idea.

It’s surprising to see the newest version of momoden still charting as is slid right down the charts and seems to have been boosted by Mario party as around new year Japanese families like to get together and play party stuff. Over a mil copies sold for a 3rd party board game is pretty wild. To be fair momoden is a fantastic board game if you are into them.

I think kids who get a PS5 will be fine. Things like Genshin, Fortnite etc. are quite popular with them.
I meant ~2.5m for DQ3R while DQ12 is certainly going to be over 4m on Switch alone if they played their card right.
DQ3R is at 2 million total, not sure it can get to 2.5 million just with Switch but it is possible! Looks to have done well on Switch in the US

They already play those on their current systems/phones...
It's like comparing PS3 to PS5 version
Fortnite most popular on PS4/5 is for a reason, anyone would prefer play with much better graphics than phone provide if convinient

Weird right? LOL! Geez man, it's like they ONLY care about profits at this point.
They care about losses for sure
It's one thing if you don't earn a lot and it's another if you lose a lot on sale you might not recuperate at all

Why skip a gen there? And plenty phones run it in good graphics settings/high hz too.

If it is, it's only more popular on PS4/5 (lol @ bundling these, I clearly meant PS4/Pro too as "current system" over being happy for the PS5 for the same games) because Epic invested in their fight to give no cut to google/apple/steam etc. rather than release it everywhere as on PSN 🤷‍♂️

Edit: lol it's apparently NOT and actually so much more popular on mobile (the numbers below are Fortnite alone, not the whole market) the PS5 numbers don't even make any meaningful dent to it, stahp the cope lies bro. Of course if restricting to Japan its ratios may differ.

Anyway, not here to argue Fortnite micro transaction sales, just found it funny the two games you thought to mention as the reason to be happy to get a PS5 could be games they're already quite happily playing on whatever platform they have, including PS4/Pro.
Well clearly they want a higher quality experience, than their phones.
They don't (or already have it on their system), hence the low sales compared to 7 years old last gen competition & their own last year. Cope harder with excusing low sales for a high, profitable price in the same breath you're pretending the sales are high as they "clearly" buy it for better quality

The mobile gaming market is bigger than the Console/PC combined X3….

It bounds to have a special price edition that will prolong its leg. It's currently having a good momentum going into peak holiday weeks and I could see ~350k units in December alone for Switch with ~220k physical and ~130k digital.

That's true, I didn't think about the special price edition.

Mario Jamboree has been really rocking it, it's crazy to see it nearly hit 100k again this long after release. The Switch was so, so close to another 100k, but its awesome to see it still able to pull these kind of numbers this far in it's life.

The craziest thing is that all of those will work on Switch 2, so until their new versions come out they can keep selling.

Absolute madness that Animal Crossing is at 8M copies sold when only counting physical.

New Leaf was 13m world wide, no idea what the digital ratio is but it would be nuts if Japan only eventually sold that amount of of New Horizons.

There might be more solid numbers, but it seems New Horizons had sold 7.36M in November 2022:
And by that point it was crowned the best selling game ever made, in Japan, at 10.45M.

So adding up the physical difference to that 10.45M it should be well above 11M when including digital by now at least.

You mean in the context of every country. And in the context of Japan(and every other country)it means it was a very dumb idea.
No, I mean in the context of Japan, it wasn't particularly made to appeal that market and virtually everyone knew it wasn't going to sell well there as it's the case with every LEGO game.
