Character models have that nice "UE5 asset flip" quality to them.
Rather "this is the same thrash that we were thinking of releasing for $20 on mobile 5 years ago, we failed terribly, let's try to make a rehash and sell to suckers". They are asking 50€ on Steam for this.

Its pretty unfair if a vocal part of the internet actually asked for it and we don't know how good all the extra content is gonna be.

Was it actually available for 20 bucks. Thought it was apple arcade exclusive.

True, I meant looking at the assets this reminds me of all the Chaos Ring games that got released a few years back that were all trying to be sold for $15-20.

Yes, the assets for Fantasian, the JRPG developed by Mistwalker (helmed by Hironobu Sakaguchi, the creator of Final Fantasy), were indeed made in real life. The game features a unique aesthetic where the majority of its environments are handcrafted dioramas that were meticulously photographed and integrated into the game's 3D engine.

Key Details about Fantasian's Real-Life Assets:

  1. Handmade Dioramas:
    • Over 150 real-world dioramas were created by artists, including veterans from the Japanese film and model-making industries.
    • These dioramas are the game's primary environments, ranging from towns and dungeons to forests and mechanical interiors.
  2. Craftsmanship:
    • Each diorama is a work of art, with incredible attention to detail, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern game design.
    • The textures, lighting, and materials used in the dioramas bring a tactile and nostalgic feel to the game.
  3. Integration into the Game:
    • The handcrafted models were photographed, and characters were digitally composited into the scenes.
    • Advanced camera techniques were used to blend the real-world dioramas with 3D character models, creating a seamless and immersive experience.
  4. Inspiration and Style:
    • The aesthetic evokes a sense of nostalgia reminiscent of classic JRPGs, combined with the charm of stop-motion animation.
    • Each diorama was designed to align with the game’s narrative and fantasy setting.
  5. Production Team:
    • The team included notable Japanese artisans, including those who worked on iconic projects like Godzilla films.
    • Their expertise ensured the miniatures captured a cinematic, storybook-like quality.

Reception:

The use of real-life dioramas as assets in Fantasian was widely praised for its originality, beauty, and the way it harkens back to classic JRPGs while pushing the boundaries of game design.

I actually think this is pretty cool. I dont know if it get to day one but it definitely has effort put into it.

Still looks nice.
Won't be buying day 1 but I'll definitely pick it up down the line

Thick Thighs Save Lives Thick Thighs Save Lives I have my preorder in via GMG, but I have to say I'm not seeing anyone getting hyped for this, it feels like it's going to sadly flop.

Flop depends on how much they spent on this port and how much Square expects to sell.

If they are really expecting a $50 port of a 3 years old mobile game releasing a week after Black Friday to be a strong seller they are being delusional.

With Square you never know for sure. They are easily the most mismanaged big publisher in the gaming business.

This reminds me a lot to older ff, i wish it would be a success. Enough to make another game with same vein later on. So the old style presentation, could be reproduce.

I really, REALLY appreciate that about the game.

I played part 1 of the Apple Arcade version. It was far and away the best game on Apple Arcade at the time. Gives you OG Final fantasy VII vibes. I’m not saying it is as good, but will heavily remind you of a PS1-PS2 Era rpg

It definitely takes inspiration from FFVII and ghost in the shell.

Similar thoughts from me. Enjoyed it on Apple Arcade at least.

I'm going to pick it up, but it's not a $50 pickup for me..

I played Fantasian on Apple Arcade and liked it a lot. TBH, I have no idea how it will be received as a full priced game. I believe if it had never been on Apple Arcade/mobile people would be more positive toward it,

What’s wrong with Dragon Quest 3? It’s really fun game.
I will get it eventually. I just have never clicked with DQ despite trying for my entire life. Its well made and I love HD2D and Toriyama but something about it intensely bores me after a bit. I've bought them all.

My favorite is probably part 1. Mostly nostalgia but it was my 1st RPG. Looking forward to that remake.

Fantasian is something where I dont really know what to expect so I went with that. Looks like the combat considers spacing a bit like Chrono Trigger and the dioramas are a neat idea. I think it might handle grinding in an original way as well.
