The open beta for the unreleased Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves will take place from Midnight PT Thursday, February 20th until 23:59 PT Monday, February 24th. The playable roster will feature previously announced Terry Bogard | Mai Shiranui | Rock Howard | Hotaru Futaba | Preecha | B. Jenet | Vox Reaper and newly announced Kain R. Heinlein.

Did the tutorials and played a few matches online.

Game seems like a solid, no BS fighting game so far. While I'm not familiar with the systems, they don't seem overwhelming and I'm having fun just pressing buttons. Of course, all that can change.

There seems to be some input lag. Not sure if that's just the way Fatal Fury is.

Wish we had a training mode but being forced to play against others isn't really a bad thing. That was the only way to learn back in the day.

Something I noticed immediately, to my delight, there's NO DP shortcut! I'm about to put the leverless away and bust out the old stick.
 
Played game on PS5 pro and was shocked to see that background elements still update at ONLY 30 F'ING FPS!!

WTF? This is so unnecessary on PS5 and especially Pro unless developers have no idea how to optimize. Seriously this is why I detest console gaming these days.

Game is pretty fun although not having training mode sucks the life out of it in a way. Things like the tutorial menus need to be faster than they are, their shouldn't really be any loading in between in that. Played Mai and Terry a few times. Terry seems fun but Mai, I don't think she'll be my main or sub in this game unlike past games. Connection was good, matchmaking needs work though. I almost don't really want to play the game and just wait for the full game since theirs no training mode.

Is there a tutorial at least? I am not familiar with this series.

During the tutorial against the CPU, my internet disconnected and immediately reconnected a second later. The game displayed an error message and forced me back to the main menu, even though I waited and the internet immediately connected. GG. Deleting and waiting until the full release has been patched before purchasing. Shame, since I was looking forward to this one for some time.

My lemon ass internet aside, I am back in the beta tutorial. After the tutorial, can we spend time fighting the CPU at all in the beta?

if you play online, the first few matches will be against an NPC... otherwise not really no.
the lack of a local VS and local NPC mode in this beta is a bit dumb.
but I might just download the game on my Steam Deck and make a private lobby with myself on PS5 to use it as a makeshift training mode 🙃

one thing that absolutely needs to be added is an option to map Heavy Punch and REV Guard onto 1 button.

I am extremely used to using LT/L2 as my Dodge Attack button in Garou...
here I have to press Y/Triangle and my REV button (currently got it on R1) to do them... which throws me off 😩

I am pretty fed up with the fifth button myself. That and I suck at this game. I don't recollect a time when I have taken this many Ls.

I think it's really the freight train stage that has this issue with the stage scrolling by in 30fps. It feels horribly unplayable on that stage. The rest seemed fine though.
The menus also feel laggy.

The 30 fps BG may be there to prevent motion sickness.

As I've said before, I hope the "Garou is my favorite SNK game" crowd shows up big because as it is I'm not buying the game at launch.
