Is this just a visual novel? I always see it get praised but if it's a animated book then I'm not really interested. I read enough books outside of gaming as it is lol.

No, you move a character around and interact with the people in the environments, and there is a tactical turn-based part of the game which portrays the game's cast fighting in mechs. I just played this on the Switch last year, it was a really interesting game. You move about the city trying to figure out what's going on and solving puzzles, then enter the tactical part of the game in between those sections.

Pretty much everything is dubbed so you only have to read if you want to go through the game faster.

"I can't see!"

Adding to what was already said, there is an element of choice, in a choose your own adventure book way. At the end of it all, you are going to achieve the same ending but it’s fun to experience all the little interactions and observations and thoughts the characters have.

There are some plot lines that are locked until you meet certain criteria, but the game is very open about what order you want to hear the characters’ stories and you can mix things up with the combat sections if you start getting too bored just hearing the stories.
