Am reading a filt Claud Cockburn (Olivia Wilde's grandfather, Messi) about literary bestsellers. He admits that the middle class were the principal buyers and borrowers of books in the early 20th century, and then, barely drawing a breath, says that bestsellers "really are a mirror of the mihily stupid article bynd and face of an age". So basically the identity of a culture can be condensed in the habits of the middle class. I've not read anything as fucking stupid in a while, and I've read every post of Footy-GAF recently.
