Alright then so it's offical. Chelsea offered Mata + 10 million for Rooney. Because Mata himself is not enough.
I'm not saying it is official.

I'm saying that's the only circumstance where you could say that yes, 100% that bid has been made.

Until then it will always be media reports. These are pretty widespread reports though, it's hard to believe there is nothing in these stories since almost all UK outlets are running with it.

Took Fellaini for granted tbh. If you agreed to this all you would have to do is trigger that buyout clause and you'd be done with midfield signings.

Chelsea would be doing your work for you.

Still not entirely sure we will go for him, because I think we would have done it by now.

If we got Mata and Fellaini, I wouldn't mind treading water another season before we could secure a proper Scholes replacement. Just don't see Cesc ever happening.

Yeah, agreed. Wouldn't necessarily think it's treading water right now anyway, both would be top additions to the side. I still got faith in nick Powell <3

English player tax. There's no-one more English than Rooney.

I meant treading water in central midfield, but yeah, I think we'd have a better team too.

"Sunderland striker Danny Graham is to join Premier League newcomers Hull City on a season-long loan, according to Sky sources."

I have no idea whether this is something to be excited about or not, are Newcastle going to build a side around him?

No. He's like 29 and we have superior younger players to build a side around. He's just a back-up/competitor to Cisse. Since Ba, Cisse's been running solo which may or may not have contributed to his shit form.

Mourinho's an idiot if this deal's true.

Well, I predicted a flop, and selling Mata for an overweight Wayne Rooney is a good starting point.

I reckon Bent would be a pretty good signing for Newcastle if his wages aren't too big.

Fuck this stuff is crazy. If they offer 15m and Mata and we turn that down... I'm gonna support Bayern.

What is with all these supposed reports around United?

First Thiago. Then Fabregas. And now this. Where are these reporters getting their info from?

I guess bro. I just don't see why Chelsea would have not offered cash only.

Otherwise I don't get it. Both Luiz and Mata are younger, have a longer period remaining in their contracts, and both cost about the same as Rooney. Don't get it at all.

Why does the OP say you support Charlton?

Mr Sam (I think?) is a Charlton fan and posted in here. I posted that I'd been to the Valley once and my girlfriend's cousins were Charlton fans. I declared myself a Charlton fan to give him some company.

Obviously not as much as my one true love Bayern Munich

Isn't Cisse using WONGA to force a move?

From what I've read, that seems very possible. Frankly, it's utterly shambolic but goes in to religious grounds where Cisse is concerned which I'm not willing to debate on here. If we can sell Cisse for decent money, we absolutely should.

Pardew wants at least two strikers anyway. Gouffran can play up front and we have Campbell as a rising talent, so 2 proper strikers and selling Cisse could work out.

Oh, I thought you were a local.

The best part of this "deal" is that despite being probably in the top 3 players of the previous two seasons, Mata's value has dropped from 23.5mil to 15mil.

I know the BBC run the story first, however their story has no sources and just seems speculation. Although theres no smoke without fire.

Mata<--->Rooney sounds really fucking stupid for both parties on paper but it could work brilliantly.

Kagawa is fucked though.

Yeah there's a new classic mode. It's more like playing the old Champ Man games than the unwieldy shit they put out now.

Bent would be a good signing, especially as it would put the Mackems into overdrive. He has a decent record everywhere he's been in the Premier League. 12 goals in 33 games in his second season at Spurs isn't exactly a bad record.

Cisse seems very hot or cold.

Oh i loved those games, bought

Now to start with a conference side or go straight to the big guns

Or go liverpool and burn them from the inside

The best case scenario is that we've rejected a cash + Mata offer because we think Chelsea will come back with an improved offer.

Worst case scenario is our board rejectibg the offer because they want a large transfer fee for Rooney which they can pocket for themselved. That or they're genuinely clueless about football and dont think cash + Mata is a good deal.

As Chelsea appear to step up interest in Rooney can't help thinking Cavani would be at City now if Mancini was. Deal was all but done in Jan

From Cavani to Negredo.

How come City aren't going for Soldado? Isn't he better?

Interesting interview with Tevez

CNN said:
Over a billion dollars was spent, the English Premier League title was won, its neighbors' feathers were duly ruffled, but the pressure to adapt to European football proved too much for Manchester City says Carlos Tevez.

Tevez, who signed for Juventus in a $13 million deal last month, enjoyed four years at City where he helped the club win the FA Cup and a first league title in 44 years, when they pipped rivals Manchester United on the last day of the 2011/2012 season.

But it was the club's failure in European competition which left a sour taste in Tevez's mouth with City failing to in their bid to compete with the continent's biggest clubs.

City has failed to progress from the Group Stage of Europe's elite competition in each of the past two seasons and the Argentine striker says the pressure and expectation on the players proved too great for the team to handle.

"Yes, there was way too much pressure," Tevez told CNN.

"It came from everyone -- the club, the fans. I think that too much pressure just hurts the team.

"What happened was that there so much hype and pressure to be one of the giants of Europe and we didn't do it.

"We dropped out in the first round of the Champions League on both occasions."

City will now hope that new manager Manuel Pellegrini will help to turn its fortunes around following the departure of Roberto Mancini.

City's former Italian coach and Tevez endured a difficult relationship with the Argentine's apparent refusal to warm up during a Champions League tie at Bayern Munich in September 2011.

Subsequently the Italian announced that Tevez would never play for the club again before finally relenting, but the Argentine says he only has respect for his former manager.

"He's a winner," added Tevez.

"I think he's a winner because he always wants to win and he takes his team to the maximum place to be able to win. Everyone who knows Mancini knows that he's a winner from birth."

Tevez's new club, Juventus, last won the Champions League back in 1996 and reached the quarterfinals last season before losing to eventual champion Bayern Munich.

The Turin club has not reached the final since it suffered a heartbreaking penalty shootout defeat by Milan in 2003 at Old Trafford.

While Antonio Conte's side have won Serie A for the past two years, it is the European crown which the club craves.

But Tevez is aware of how such pressure can be detrimental to a team's chances of success with City just one example of how players can be adversely affected.

"I think we have to be calm and make sure we don't put pressure on ourselves to win the Champions League," added the 29-year-old as he looked to ahead to the challenge of playing in Europe with Juventus.

"If we don't then that pressure will become impossible to escape from.

"We have to be calm and know that winning the Scudetto again will make us part of Italian history and then we can think about everything else.

"We all dream of winning the Champions League but our main objective is winning Serie A.

"Then we can be calm in the Champions League and everything will become a lot easier."

Mourinho was CFC's player of the year for 2 years running, and he insisted that both the club and he are only thinking of growing their relationship.

Hell, even Luiz saw his stock rise in recent months for both club and country.

Whereas Mata is of higher value than Rooney IMO (very easily too) Rooney is not without his problems. Be it behavior or fitness, etc.

Eurosport also mentioned this interesting point:

Manchester United apparently leaked details of their strange offer for Cesc Fabregas on Monday, and there are various theories as to their motivation. There is nothing to suggest this report is not mischief making – from Chelsea or United, who could be annoyed with Mourinho's open courting of Rooney and seeking to destabilise Mata, who would solve their creativity problems in one fell swoop.

Don't even know if I want Mata :looooooool, my Shinji love is too overbearing

We'll play like Japan did in the Confeds except with better players.

Kagawa on the left, Mata in the middle, and I guess Nani will do until we sign Reus next summer when his 35m euro release clause gets activated.
