Fortnite Season 9 has arrived, and with it, the end of Tilted Towers and Retail Row. RR has been replaced with Mega Mall, and TT with Neo Tilted. The central area of the map is now connected by a metro system of sorts, called Slipstreams.

Notably, the pump shotgun has been vaulted, replaced by the Combat Shotgun.

Bug Fixes & Improvements

  • Turbo building after gliding now works correctly.
  • The stink bomb damage audio and effects were not playing if you damaged yourself.
  • Fixed the Shadow bomb occasionally not making the player invisible on the Xbox One the first time it's used.
  • Misplacement of Launch Pads in mid-air has been resolved.
  • Pirate Cannon camera issues due to network latency have been resolved.
  • The Reboot Card deposit sound effects no longer play in replay mode while the Van is on Cooldown.
  • The Reboot Van card sound effects will no longer be heard when a squadmate disconnects.
GAMEPLAY
  • Slipstreams
    • These tunnels of wind passively carry players down the stream.
      • Players can move faster and change direction when actively trying to move down the Stream.
      • Use directional input to gain extra velocity. Experiment with bobbing up and down for higher speeds.
    • Players are launched when exiting the tube based on their movement speed and exit angle.
    • Projectiles and Vehicles can also enter the Slipstream.
  • Air Vents
    • The powerful gusts of air from these environmental items can launch players short distances and grant immunity to fall damage.
  • Fortbytes
    • Fortbytes are a series of 100 collectible computer chips available to Battle Pass owners. As you collect Fortbytes, you’ll decrypt a mysterious image. Collect them all to unlock rewards and uncover the secrets of Season 9.
    • On the first day of Season 9, there are 18 Fortbytes available to find. At least 1 new Fortbyte will be unlocked each day. Check the Challenges Tab for detailed information on which Fortbytes are currently available and when the others unlock.
    • Fortbytes cannot be collected after Season 9 ends.
  • Disconnected players will stay in the world for 60 seconds. They still take damage and count for elimination points.
Bug Fixes & Improvements
  • Resolved an issue with the UI showing health gains incorrectly if the player canceled the consumable close to completion time.
  • PS4 controller lighting not always matching your pin color when in Squads.
  • Players not able to use Hold to Swap if they previously picked an item up normally
  • Adjusted turbo building to be more forgiving under poor network conditions
  • Fixed cases of jittery movement under certain conditions.

I'd hope so, considering Epic made $3 billion in 2018 on 125 million Fortnite players. Actually, Fortnite had been stagnating somewhat until Apex lit a fire under them. Epic's crack team of creative minds rushed to invent context pinging and other QoL features days after Apex launched.

hope the two tango a bit going forward, i vastly prefer apex's mechanical systems and perspective, but i don't see fortnite as a bad game by any measure

there's room for pubg, fortnite, apex legends, maybe one more to coexist and build off each other

If I have any disappointment to say it’s that after they *finally* destroyed tilted they replaced it with...another tilted.

Other than that I’m hearing good things, the shotgun meta is currently pretty much gone.

Blackout should follow, but they seem too proud opting for their own ideas which simply aren’t as good. Pinging, dog tag retrieval + respaw would do wonders for the game. But then that’s just my opinion.

Do we not have a Season X OT? Guess I can understand, with this level of activity. 😋

But I found the building changes very intriguing today. Builds still place at the same speed on first place, but subsequent builds come out slower. This basically gives players a way to fight back against those douchebags that box themselves in and refuse to fight, as fast firing guns now penetrate, and it’s actually possible for those of us without the greatest internet, to replace their wall and edit in.

Also seems to be contributing to a bit less build spam, but we’ll see how things evolve, as players adapt.

Predictably, the Reddit/Twitter fanbase are shitting themselves, as they do over everything good for the game, but I’m pretty happy with this. Combined with anti-turtle items like the junk rift, mech, stinks, etc., it seems primed to damage this awful style of play.

I want to finish my fights, not hit somebody for 50, and have them infinitely box up, until the attention attracts everyone nearby and I get screwed for actually trying to play the game. This actually had me not playing for the past few days, so I’m cautiously excited about the changes.

Also, the new Borderlands 3 area is absolutely insane. The game cel-shades itself as you walk through the reality bubble. I’m finally off work, and I can’t wait to explore it.

They ruined Endurance mode in Save the World by increasing the spawn points of monsters while maintaining the same structure limit, now it's impossible to properly build to defend all areas. The only fun thing to do once reaching endgame is gone. The game now is officially a v-buck farming simulator.

A lot of angry people in the comments, lol. It's a good area to explore.

People are dumb, lol. It’s been a great area, and I’m not even a Borderlands fan. It’s awesome to see Fortnite in a comic book-like style, and a different world dumped on the desert area we’ve come to know for a year now.

The rift zones have been a highlight of this season — you really have no idea what’s going to happen next. I mean, 1800s Tilted with no building? Retail Row from last’s Halloween’s zombie invasion? And now Borderlands 3?

...I’m going to ignore the one that blew up my soccer field for no good reason. 😋
