Franchises that definitely need a reboot

As the current generation is coming to a close, a new one will arise. New IP's will be born but beloved (every game has fans) franchises will still have sequels no matter how others want it to rest.

Some games have great storyline, or gameplay, or presentation. But somehow, the developers of said game have lost its way, franchises once held high becomes hated by its fans. The only way to save it, is to start the franchise anew.

So, the questions is, what franchises needs to be rebooted?

Why do you want it rebooted?

Which developer do you want to work on it?

What mechanic or part of the game do you want to change?

My answer will always be Assassins's Creed, as it really needs a reboot.

I really hate how the storyline was handled, I was very tame on it after ACBro with all the first civ stuff because I thought they would be able to recover from it and be awesome with it but nope, the story doesn't make sense most of the time and I feel they really want to top Kingdom Hearts' story in terms of silliness.

Also with AC3, they really messed up with that. It's the most half baked AAA game I've ever played. I've had more fun with COD and that game is getting stale.

A reboot will definitely help the franchise by giving it a fresh new story and focus on the mechanics that works.

Assassins Creed doesn't need a reboot, it needs to go away for a while.

The proper answer is Legacy of Kain.

Old franchises that are still around should stay the course. Old franchises that are dead need to stay dead. We need more new IPs and less preying off nostalgia.

Perfect Dark and basically all other Rare IP's

Edit: Who I want working on would be Nintendo. Only because I don't know who would treat them properly

Resident Evil: There's no way to stretch it anymore. NO more clones, no neo umbrella, no more "it's Racoon city al over again". It's time to start a new.

Assasssins Creed: sigh...

Castlevania: Finish the epic western/hollywood style trilogy, then go back to Japan. With platinum on board!

Road Rash by Criterion. Make it open world biker gang warfare.

I'd also love to see EA reboot Knockout Kings/Fight Night, and whatever they end up making with the UFC license, only instead of farming it out to one of their typical sports devhouses, create a team comprised of former Japanese fighting game developers.

A new WaveRace made by the former members of Black Rock that made Pure

Imagine a next-gen Resident Evil running on that Deep Down engine and from the classic isometric/fixed camera perspective....even if it was just a spin-off to shut up fans who want something more akin to the 'classic' RE games.

with proper handling of the series, i think it would work. Ac2 and acbro was an evidence to that. revelations was good, but there was little change in it.

I say Perfect Dark...But I have no idea who to put in charge of it, most of the original dev team are spread out among multiple companies.

I also agree that Zelda has been rebooted repeatedly.

Yep. You can do fresh ideas without having to do something drastic like a reboot. Zelda doesn't need a reboot.

But at the same time, I agree with this.

Would I have wanted the Classic series turned into Battle Network, or them to exist separately?

And regarding Castlevania, I want the reboot to conclude.

Zelda

Galaxy team

Yeah, I know, SS was a reboot, but damn. This series needs VA. It needs less collectathons. It needs something.

I know the Galaxy 2 team did 3D Land last and I think the Galaxy 1 team hasn't done jack shit since.

what's wrong with those guys?

Ratchet and Clank IMO
Each R&C game since ACiT felt less and less like Ratchet and Clank. They might as well just reboot the entire franchise or just stop making Ratchet and Clank. They are killing one of my favorite game series out there.

It can still be an epic adventure called Zelda, but it is about time they change the formula that LttP and OoT made routine.

Just making it "an epic adventure called Zelda" isn't enough. The formula is what makes a Zelda game a Zelda game, and not using it basically makes whatever game you are making something other than a Zelda game. You can mess with the formula and mix things up to make it fresh, but completely eliminating it in the name of change is going way too far.

crash needs to be revived.

but spyro already was rebooted into an action figure.

Hm, but Crash's post-Crash 1-4 outings have mainly been not Crash Bandicoot platformers of old. Although he is dead now, too. He needs reviving and rebooting.

Are the Skylanders games actually good replacements for the old Spyro games, though? I haven't played one, but they didn't seem to be actual Spyro-like platformers from what I have seen...

Well then they'll never surpass LttP and OoT.

and don't give me that Majora's Mask shit. lol

I love this lol.

"Nintendo, reboot franchise A!"
*reboots franchise B*
"argh why?!"

They are rebooting the wrong games. Papermario did not need changing. It had only two games when they decided to change up the formula drastically. And after showing a glimpse to a return to form with Paper Mario 3DS they did it again.

skylanders is good for what it wants to be, but its not a true spyro game for me, still it makes them money so it would not go anywhere. and spyro was already omitted on the title, so he is also dead.

crash should never be touched if ND is not gonna do the reboot.
