Franchises that definitely need a reboot

I'll go with Resident Evil and Silent Hill.

Zelda is a bit of a different animal. Most of the franchise's iterations are reboots. What Zelda needs is to go back to its roots (among other things). Likewise with Final Fantasy, to a lesser extent (go back to pre-FF13 approach).

Assassin's Creed doesn't need a reboot, it needs a long vacation.

Perfect Dark

Why do you want it rebooted?

We could use a fresh variation on the FPS genre. Plus, you can never have enough cyberpunk.

Which developer do you want to work on it?

A mix of Retro Studios, Crytek UK and DICE.

What mechanic or part of the game do you want to change?

I'd just build on the foundation established by the first game and make Joanna a bit more stealthy/mobile overall. The levels would also be more complex to accommodate the new gameplay mechanics. Ideally, most of the game would move away from the old mission structure; players would instead be dropped into several areas with a series of objectives and have to figure some stuff out through exploration. These large levels would organically break up into smaller segments thanks to cleverly placed checkpoints.

The MP would be Timesplitters on crack with plenty of options and awesome gadgets, just like the original PD.

What franchises needs to be rebooted?

I'd like to see Gabriel Knight rebooted.

Why do you want it rebooted?

For starters, the third game was such a huge disappointment for me and many others. It's a definite low point for the adventure genre and even inspired that hilarious (and depressing) article by Old Man Murray on how the adventure genre committed suicide. But other than that, the three games all have different graphical styles (first game is 2D sprites, second game is FMV, third game is ugly 3D) so I'd like to see a new trilogy where all three games share the same graphical style. Another thing that bugs me is that Gabriel Knight is played by two different people; Tim Curry in the first and third games, Dean Erickson in the second. Both actors played the part wonderfully and I don't have a favorite but I would have liked to see the same actor in all three. Same goes for Grace Nakimura, who was played by three different actresses. Basically, a new trilogy with the same graphical style, same actors, and maybe an ongoing story that spans all three games.

Which developer do you want to work on it?

As long as Jane Jensen is involved I wouldn't care.

What mechanic or part of the game do you want to change?

Nothing, really. I would want the new trilogy to remain point-and-click adventures. But I would be open to a new style of playing them, such as how The Walking Dead controls. But not casual like The Walking Dead is and instead have traditional adventure game puzzles and even areas where you can die and get a game over. I want them to be tough. Lots of exploration, lots of item gathering, inventory system, etc.

Tenchu: Although I suppose that in large part, Assassin's Creed drank its milkshake. Still, I'd really like to see an open world assassin game that actually required stealth. No contrivances like the Animus, no tower defense mini-games, just pure unadulterated stealth gameplay. Which brings me to...

Thief: No doubt in development hell at Eidos Montreal. I wonder if the team was encouraged by Dishonored sales, or dismayed that a game with (presumably) such similar mechanics beat them to the punch. Either way, a next gen reboot some time soon would be dandy.

Def Jam: Even the execrable Def Jam: Icon couldn't sour my fond memories of Def Jam: Fight for NY.

NBA Street: Really enjoyed this series, although, if EA's efforts with SSX are anything to go by, I'm not sure I want this rebooted.

Resistance - Fall of Man
Great scenario badly developed. A reboot where the origin of Chimeras is different (Time paradox? Alternative reality?) with a proper "hero", a better developed worldwide war scenario (Nazis fight together with UK and USA for example) and, of course, a better technical component would make Resistance the great franchise it would deserve to be

Command & Conquer

I used to watch my Dad play it all the time when I was younger, very fond memories the games after red alert though became progressively worse and worse until we ended up with that F2P shit.

My dream dev for it would be Creative Assembly but that sadly will never happen.

Nothing really I want to change, just make it like Red Alert and its expansions please.

God Of War series. New protagonist, new mythology, new settings.
Definitely this. I love Kratos and all, but after GoW3 Santa Monica should've rebooted the series with a new protagonist, mythology, etc.

Zelda

Galaxy team

Yeah, I know, SS was a reboot, but damn. This series needs VA. It needs less collectathons. It needs something.

Zelda SS was only a reboot in terms of gameplay and dungeon progression. Also, it doesn't really have "collectathons". Yeah, you collect relicts, but they mostly serve as plot coupons anyway. The real meat lies in finding and beating those dungeons.

dmc its not cool enough perhaps next time dante could be a half-bisexual pantsless construction worker who fights crime, also lower the framerate plz, everything moves to fast for me to see what im doing

Resident Evil

Horror games for me is best when you are at one place only like the manor. I dont want to travel all over the world and see different things. Everytime this happens I feel disconnected to the place and have to start over to try and breath in the atmosphere of the place.

Let it be a survival/horror game again. I am sick and tired of the action/horror type of game that it is now. Usually it isnt a horror game anymore because its to easy, and its no fun to play it on very hard because its more about luck than skills if you survive.

Dont have different parties. Like I said before I feel disconnected to the characters and place when the change back and forth all the time.

A reboot is very welcome, dont know if I even want to put down some time on RE6 when it is released on PC.

Zelda

This series has to change. The problem I got with this series that I loved back in the days is that there are bether games now in the action/adventure genre. It would be great if there was a hole new darker more mature story and new puzzles, equipment and caves. Because doing the same thing over and over again has made that I lost interest in this series.

It would be great if another company tried there magic on this series like Metroid Prime, that was developed by Retro studios.

Reboots need a reboot. I'm tired of reboots, if they do a game 10 years later they should just continue on with the lore instead of endless origin stories

Resident evil

Bring back the great gameplay that is shown in REmake . I want puzzles, keys, pieces, emblems.

I hope to God Capcom don't listen to these people who want to reboot Resident Evil. A 17 year old franchise and Capcoms biggest selling one to boot, please don't listen to those who want to scrap all that. They probably won't buy the reboot anyways.

Shhhhh

The Metroid franchise definitely needs to be rebooted to forget about the mess that was Other M. Give it to Retro Studios or make a side story Metroid game and have Platinum Games take over the reigns.

I also vote for Silent Hill. Give it to Frictional Games. I don't care if the Silent Hill game turns out to be a game in the first person perspective only...I'm betting it would be the best SH game since 2.

Road Rash by Criterion.

Mega Man X. Mega Man was rebooted with Mega Man 9 so I think it's X's turn. Have Wayforward work alongside Capcom to make MMX. There's a slight chance it might not match MM9 but it'll be a hell of a lot better than Rock Man Xover.

Every long running successful game series needs to be rebooted. It's ridiculous how a developer can get away with making so many sequels and them not changing it at all to suit the trends of our time.

Everything must turn into Dark Souls.

We have a winner.

Also, cast my vote for Legacy of Kain. Developed by From Soft with Miyazaki directing.

Instant 10/10 ratings across the board in early development.

it really depends on how they handle reboot. if it goes back to the survival horror, i will buy it day one.

Whilst I'm fine with Zelda evolving, it certainly doesn't need a reboot. The progression of the games could do with being changed, but I feel the battle system and world are already pretty great.

I do think Nintendo should reboot StarTropics though, since I feel as a Zelda-like action-adventure game it would have a lot of potential.

Project Gotham Racing.

The quality of racing hasn't been matched, it was arcadey yet there was some real skill involved as you got faster.

RIP Bizarre :(

The only people who could do it now are maybe Codemasters but with the Grid franchise about i doubt they'd take it on.

Also Blur, Mario Kart with real cars, was underrated.

Zelda doesn't need to change the formula per se, they just need to work out how to actually make the games challenging.

Phantasy Star

Absolutely. Rebooted as in having a new (non-online) entry with high production values and a modernization of the series' original scope. We really need active JRPG Sci-Fi series, and with Star Ocean not having moved for a while, we only have Monolith!

Please Sega, make Phantasy Star 5.

I want to reboot Duke Nukem as "Cho-Kawaii Nukem-chan".

People will be so mad and it will be so delicious.

Then I'd make a 'Land of the Bishounen sequel". Where inexplicably homo-erotic men who are interested in you because you're an epic loli who shoots up space aliens and delivers cheesy badass lines.

Watch all of the people who say Duke Nukem is great because it a hilarious parody turn 180 degrees and say Nukem-chan is offensive filth.

Metal Gear Solid. Story is getting amazingly convulted.

And to those saying Final Fantasy, you're in the wrong thread or do you even play the games at all? Each story and battle system is changed in each different numbered title.

Definitely Assassin's Creed. Final Fantasy, but each game has its own theme. But it really needs different writers from the XIII and Lightning Return games.

Um, PGR5 is being made for Durango. Lucid Games has most of Bizarre's staff and are working on it.
