I don't need to pick one. as it stands right now, PS and XB gamers can play COD. The largest user base on console gets it removed. This is not a pro-gamer move no matter how anyone tries to spin it.

That is the not the issue.
The big issues is that MS gets to control the IP. They can use it however they want. All, because they spent money buying it.

When someone buys stuff like that, I dont trust that person to be friendy to me.

Just because a single party has been historically bad at competing it doesn't give them free reign to spend money from other divisions with the objective of literally buying the industry.

They have over 20 studios now, that's plenty enough to be competitive. They've also been around the block as an entity long enough to realise going around the world with Anglo-American centric marketing isn't going to fly but that didn't stop them from doing so with the Xbox division for decades. As proven by both Sony and Nintendo over the years (and even themselves during the early days of the 360 era), all people want is games and they want to be catered to in accordance with their local cultures, it's not complicated.

They can have their services, their hollow PR victories and aggressive marketing (inclusive of bots and astroturfers), but when it comes down to it none of that matters. It's about time they woke up and realised instead of attempting to go around buying everything in sight when they've proven they don't know how to consistently manage the creative side of the business for a while now.

Show me where anyone, at any point threatened to remove COD from playstation. Hell Nintendo signed a 10 yr deal and the merger hasn't even gone through. The deal with Sony afaik is still on the table. Last month Sony fans were trying to convince us that MS would Never pull it from ps because it's free revenue, now we're scared that "The largest user base on console gets it removed."

Sony came out and said all Bungie games now and in the future will remain multiplatform.

Microsoft offered 3-10 year deals.

And as I just said, Microsoft apparently assured EU regulators that Bethesda games would remain on rival consoles and then backed out.

The only thing you have going is what MS has said through the media which is completely different behind closed doors. There's nothing else to be said. There's way more evidence that MS is not committed to having these games remain on PS.

That is a fun thing I didn't think about... but yeah, I'm not sure how happy Activision is going to be after this. Granted Sony is still the majority of their business so they can't be THAT salty, but I do wonder how things will shake out.

My take:

• Sony: a nice defensive move for the interim, but when this goes to court, there's a good chance some unflattering stuff is exposed on their end...or they're proven to be loose with the truth.
  • Also, no major acquisitions for them, either (not that they need them).
• Microsoft: A complete headache; not unwinnable by any means (see AT&T/Time Warner vs the FCC), but a total mess which really brings to light Phil's abilities as a leader. Does anyone truly believe he's the guy?
  • MS can retaliate by scooping up a bunch of smaller devs if this gets killed, but it won't be what they wanted...and the burden falls on their already beleaguered in-house devs to try and catch Sony (lol).
• Nintendo: LOL...whatever.
• Democrats: A move which will be seen as pro-consumer but will likely result in aggressive lobbying in 2024 and 2026 from Microsoft...and reduced campaign donations.

I cant see the problem if the company itself wants to be bought, because that's what the shareholders at Activision voted for, right?
And Activision is a company in bad shape with bad management, Microsoft has said that it aims to change it.
Microsoft has also said it aims to make CoD available on Switch, PC and PS for the next 10 years. It also wants to revive other dead Activision characters like Crash, Guitar Hero and more. Today Activision is a Cod only factory.

How is any of those things bad?
How can a government monopoly decide if other acquisitions is monopoly?

Spiderman was already exclusive through a licensing deal with Marvel. Are you saying Marvel aren't free to license their character in any way they want?
