Gaming New Year's resolutions?

Not optimistic enough to say 52 games, but average 1 a month at least.

Try a new genre properly. I've started turn based jrpgs a couple of times but never got far so thinking play through Chrono Trigger at least.

While I'll still be picking up new games and playing some big releases.
I want to spend next year going back to some older classics and also playing more smaller indie/AA games. You know, just go to steam and find some fun looking lesser known games with good user reviews to try out

Learn a new fighting game, preferrably VF5 with the PC release. Tekken 8 is alright but I need some variety. I love the genre (especially 3D fighting) so really looking forward to VF returning to modern systems.

To try finish as much games in my backlog before buying new ones. Already have the hardware just need to put the time in.

And to lessen spend on peripherials+hardware outside of a new graphics card.

For 2025 I decided to focus on weebshit, as I neglected all these JRPGs/VNs/others for so long... so the plan is to beat (well, 100%, ideally) at least 6 Final Fantasies and some other series like Ace Attorney, Danganronpa, Steins;Gate, Katamari, Muv-Luv, Zero Escape and more.

New gaming PC.

Been using my current PC with a GTX 1070, I7 5820k, and 1TB HDD for around 8 years now. But more and more games are out that requires more than this even for 1080P such as Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart, FFVII Rebirth, Space Marine 2, GTA VI, whatever new upcoming RE game and many others later on. So it's about time I buy a entire new PC hopefully within 2025.

I'm going to complete my backlog (approximately 15 games left) and feel free to change a platform with no regrets about missed opportunities.

Do you have any? I do. Here they are:

I'm not going to play an RPG in 2025. I want to see how this impacts my life, if at all.

I'm only going to buy 3 games. I spent far too much money on games in 2024, and barely played most of them.

Yours?
No RPGs?!? Dude. I would die.

My resolution is always the same. Finish a game before I buy a new game. Backlog is pretty big.

What time is it?
With the value of mexicain pésos your going broke 😂

Making more money is easy. Fixing what ails you is impossible.

Yeah, to never play a new BioWare game ever again. I'd play a rerelease of Jade Empire though because their games were amazing back then.

Sticking to my well trusted resolution...

Vote with my wallet.

My other resolution is that I want to complete a certain few games on the 50 series Nvidia cards once I get my hands on one. Cyberpunk for starters, but I want to also test out the photorealistic mod.

Maybe start Elden Ring. I stink at those games. May just go mage or something.

Buy Switch 2 day 1 depending on offerings. Enhanced BC is def day 1. If not will depend on 1st parties.
Elden Ring is the easiest of them all ... all kindas of easy mode on it including a "spell" that basically doubles your character and helps you kill the boss..plus wespons with gigant demage weapon arts..... just evolve the spell to +10 choose one of those weapons and destroy the fucking game.... so go for it .. its really easy.. theres a reason the mainstream love it.

My new years gaming resolution is dig deeper on retrogaming ... currently playing FF6 and loving it.

For me personally the Pro is a big disappointment for 60fps players and the ps5 has reached its perfomance ceiling.... so Im probably going to hold out most new games and play them on the Ps6.

Sooooo more Jap/asian games ?

Really I just don't want to talk about social/identity politics. That's not why I'm here. So if I can actively avoid or ignore that stuff in games then I will. If a game makes that impossible then I'll play something else. Either way, I'm going to avoid engaging in those topics on GAF. Politics ruins everything.

I just wish we didnt have to ignore anything or even talk about it ... this things dont existing and gaming going back to normal would be the ideal probably utopian scenario.

Ill just avoid anything with this things ... theres just too much to play anyway. Filtering out shit is never been easier. In all entertainment btw. Too many options.

Appreciating what stuff I already have. Remember being younger and playing half a dozen N64 games to death?

How many times did we boot up Goldeneye and just be content and get great mileage out of that. You could say lack of funds was the reason for fewer games but there was always blockbuster to tide you over.

I had one this year. Never buy more than one fullprice game in a month. Couldn't do it. Wont do one this year.

- Building a new PC
- Upgrading to a 360/480hz ultrawide if they release.
- Start getting back into benchmarking hardware again.
- Play more single player games.

Stop gaming altogether. Is a giant waste of time.
I kind of agree for 99% of games, but I have learned that I need something in my life that is completely zero-stakes, relatively brainless, and has no impact on my life or the people who rely on me - the opposite of work and family and self-improvement, which dominates everything and overwhelms me sometimes.
