So now it is officially Sony's third best title to launch of PC it has beaten Spiderman all time peak.

All time peak 68,826.

I was not expecting this game to beat Spiderman and Horizon Forbidden West on PC and it was surprise for me.
It will be second best ( just under Helldivers 2 ) for less than a hour, this will probably hit over 80k peak tomorow
Crazy numbers for 4 year old game, Sony is again on killing streak, money all around

I think new games tend to peak on Saturday afternoon when a lot of people in North America are off school and work and people in Europe are as well since it's the evening/night

I got no problem with it coming to pc

I just think Sony shouldn’t half ass their pc strategy

- make a PlayStation store on PC

- day 1 PlayStation exclusives and third party games

- cross buy and cross save between console and pc for all games sold

- trophy support, etc
Yeah because if there is one thing PC players love, it's dedicated stores for publishers. That will go over real well.

The peak hours for this game are kinda weird, it started going down and it's super early still, like 7pm in UK. I wonder if a lot of japanese pc gamers are going to sleep now and that it is. Most other games usually peak in 2-3h from now.

They get 5K by default automatically, but can request more and I assume this request is granted when it comes from legit publishers (the rule to limit automatic generation was done to combat scammers). After all Sony already sells steam keys for their games on stores like GMG, Humble and many others. It is extremely unlikely there were only 5K of these.
And as far as I know, these keys are commission free and always have been. Valve only takes a cut (20-30%) on games sold directly on Steam store.

Really want to get it even though I have the PS5 version (only beat first island or w/e).

The hype is real with Shogun Tv series and ubi's blunders. Plus it's just a really great game.

Has there ever been any info around the sort of budget/cost is involved in porting these games games to PC? Nixxes would have spent how many hours/ team size on this.
Curious if these titles are making cost back/profit?

Gonna update the OP and maybe tomorrow I'll ask the mods to change the title once it breaks the GoW CCU.

Other thing to note is that God Of War was not restricted for sale in specific regions, however just like the recent change to Helldivers, Ghost of Tsushima is. I think that it could of taken over God Of War's peak if this was not the case.

Other issue is that the port while... Compotant has some major issues with the Legends mode, you cant really play it outside of the 2 player story missions as it crashes to desktop 90% of the time when trying to play survival with match making. Creating a full party prior and launching is the only way to prevent this, not ideal.

The worst thing is there's not really anyway to feed this back to the devs, unlike Helldivers (and most other games) there is no "technical issues" steam subforum to report these issues that would be monitored.

There are also multiple issues with singleplayer but these are minor compared to how restrictive the multiplayer issues are. However they do not have the normal route PC players are used to, so you just have to put them in general and hope they somehow stay on the first 10 pages before dropping off on general (which is why having a forum for bugs and issues that developers can easily check without sifting out every other general topic is good)

So honestly im not hopeful on these being quickly fixed.

Curious if these titles are making cost back/profit?

In DF interview with guys who ported God of War, they said majority of work was done by 4 (yes, four) people on that port (and it was brilliant port).
My estimate would be that each port costs no more than 4 million USD, but probably less. These ports are hugely profitable for Sony.

I expect if they ported (well) Bloodborne and avoided PSN nonsense and stupid controversies, they could net 100 million USD on that alone.

That guess is as good as any, I suppose. My guess is that Steam still gets their cut no matter what. But.....who knows?

Again, Steam only gets a cut from games sold on steam store itself. This is not a matter of guessing, it is a fact:

Man, Returnal really did flop on PC huh? Wonder why. Rogue-likes/lites are huge on steam usually.
I think most roguelikes are not AAA and are much cheaper, maybe people have different expectation for this genre. And maybe people are not interested in the protagonist?
Personally, I am waiting for it to be in humble or some very deep sale, because I think there is very high chance I will not enjoy its roguelike nature.

Not that it matters in this specific instance, but that list is missing Spider-Man Remastered and several other SIE games that were ported to PC. Use the one in my OP instead since it lists everything SIE published on PC.

I think most roguelikes are not AAA and are much cheaper, maybe people have different expectation for this genre. And maybe people are not interested in the protagonist?
Personally, I am waiting for it to be in humble or some very deep sale, because I think there is very high chance I will not enjoy its roguelike nature.

I took a leap of faith on it based on some praises around here that seemed genuine and as someone who dislikes the genre Returnal and Hades are the exception. I really liked its atmosphere, soundtrack, and combat.

The initial performance of GoT is above Spider-Man or Horizon and super close to GoW, games that sold more than 2.5M-3.5M million copies on PC until now (they will continue selling with discounts and price cuts).

I''d say it will sell more than 2M and probably more than 3M too.

Fair enough. I wonder what Valve gets out of this. Pretty generous just to allow publishers to bypass Steam commission like that. Also, what I don't understand is that it stresses that Steam customers must get the same deal as the keys sold elsewhere, but we know that it is common for this to not be the case. I bought GoT on Fanatatical for $10 less than what it was being sold for on Steam. Maybe Valve isn't monitoring very closely? Not sure.

Edit: Looking at the Steamworks page, it seems Valve will typically approve additional steam keys as long as the publisher isn't trying to entirely bypass the Steam system. So I think you were right when you said this was being used to drive folks to Steam. Valve is going to allow free keys for publishers as long as there isn't a major "imbalance" in the number requested versus the sales of the game on Steam.

"When reviewing Steam Key requests, some of the things we typically look at include the level of customer interest on Steam, the total number of keys that have been issued and activated for the game and the additional number that are being requested. A request will usually be rejected if there's an imbalance that suggests the developer is not making an offer to Steam customers that is comparable to what Steam Key purchasers are offered. For instance, a game with a few hundred units of lifetime sales requesting tens of thousands of keys, or more."


Clearly my "guess" was entirely wrong.

Yeah, more than likely. So I'm looking at the Helldivers 2 review page. It allows you to filter reviews purchased in Steam and outside of Steam. It shows 225k reviews from people who bought the game outside of Steam. So Valve got $0 from all those sales? That is mind-boggling.

I don't know the ins and outs of the process, but Steam learned a long time ago that the best way to corner the PC market is to not try and corner it.
