I also highly recommend my friend's movie podcast:

Fat and Skinny Go to the Movies

I'm not pushing it because he's my buddy either. It's genuinely the most entertaining movie podcast out there imo, and perfect for the types of movies you're looking for.

It's kinda shabby that I just listed shit. I should highlight some stuff for you.

Angel Heart

This one starts out as noir detective story, but rapidly becomes a twisted psychological horror flick. What I love about it is the weird, brooding atmosphere created by the amazing imagery. Also great performances by Mickey Rourke and Robert De Niro in particular.

Didn't see these mentioned. Off the top of my head:

Top Gun (Best Navy recruiting movie, evar)

Private School (Betsy Russell and Phoebe Cates were the desires of many young boys in the '80s.)

Mischief (Full-frontal Kelly Preston. 'Nuff said.)

The Heavenly Kid

Three O'Clock High (Yes. That's the same guy who played the much wimpier-looking villain in Kindergarten Cop)

Big (Although, I don't how it could be possible to not have watched it, by now.)

Oh crap, forgot about Coming to America

edit: and I guess Trading Places should be watched before that

COMING TO FUCKING AMERICA!!!

"Good Morning my Neighbors" "Hey fuck you!" "Yes, Yes, Fuck you too!"

On that note..

Beverly Hills Cop 1 & 2

Crap

TWINS!!!!

Rutheless People!!!

So many movies I had no idea about the original title in english, stupid movie people that had to completely change the title of the movie for spanish speaking audiences.

I just watched Death Wish 3 on betamax the other day.. it is pure awesome..

My memories of Betamax are when the tape of the secret of NIHM got stuck and I couldn't see the film, and it was one of my favorites! if we include animation the thread needs to add:

The secret of NIHM
The Last Unicorn
Flight of the Dragons

If you're after something that goes well with Ghostbusters and Gremlins as comedy-horror, might I suggest Tremors?

Technically it's not *quite* 80s - 1990 - but it's really close!

I have to say the opposite about Labyrinth.
God i remebered it to be a great movie, but it was a drama to watch 15 years later(and i don't like Bowie).

It might be called "A Night on the Town" for the OP. At least it is here in Australia.
