Basically says the graphics are the best on the PSP but everything else could've been better. Sounds like God of War 3. :D

It's a staggering achievement that makes it difficult to imagine a better handheld God of War today. And yet, as with the stories upon which it's based, this is a game with nothing new to say, a myth told many times before and, in some cases, told better.

That's disappointing... was looking forward to the story the most.

I have this preordered. I still need to finish up the last hour or so of Chains of Olympus, guess I should do that this week :P

I expected this to be the highest rated PSP game of all time once Peace Walker and Birth By Sleep got blueballed by reviewers.

Looks awesome. Glad I pre-ordered this a long time ago, but dammit, next week can't come soon enough. I needs me some Kratos brutality.

Why? IIRC, Eurogamer liked Chains of Olympus very much.
It's obvious that they changed in time, a game like GoW can't possibly be rated 7/10 relative to other games on the system. No way.
I mean, it's longer, looks better and has more content than CoO but still gets a lower score? :lol

Sigh, God of War tells the story of Kratos, not Greek mythology. And this is specially true for the Ready at Dawn games.

Eurogamer is known for not playing the games they review so who knows.

^ It's a shame that God of War II and III veered more towards simply using Kratos as a prop to bring about the end of the gods. He is actually a character with plenty of depth to be explored, something that Ghost of Sparta seems to understand.

Something tells me that this is going to be a much better story than God of War II-III, at least.

I don't think they're referring to Greek mythology specifically -- it sounds more like they're just suffering from series fatigue.

Do you mean in comparison to other games on the PSP or to other GoW games? I've played all the GoW games, I enjoyed them, but there's really not much there. Hack and slash enemies for a few hours then it's over. A 7/10 is really what most of the GoW games actually deserved imo. A nice distraction for an afternoon or so, but not much besides that.

That comment has nothing to do with the actual story of the game. It's basically just another way of saying "this is exactly the same as every other God Of War game, except if you've played the PS3 version it will obviously not be as impressive in scale and scope and this can't help but be a bit disappointing." The review barely comments on the story at all other than a brief intro to the plot.

The reviewer is clearly slightly weary of all the GoW titles being essentially identical in gameplay (although I'd only count 5 titles in the series to date - the main series and two PSP games - unlike the review which seems to count the HD collection as a 6th). If you're not then presumably you'll think more highly of the game.

Sigh, God of War tells the story of Kratos, not Greek mythology. And this is specially true for the Ready at Dawn games.

Oh, come on, that's just pedantry and has nothing to do with what the reviewer means.

They're probably going to explain why he was so jarringly angry at the beginning of 2.

That was a pretty great trailer and served to remind me how well Kratos' characterization is expressed visually throughout the entire series. I'm 2/3 of the way through Lords of Shadow, and it's starting to become laughable how all the drama is contained in badly written narration between chapters and is not at all apparent in the character.

(And to preempt the counterpoint that Kratos is unidimensional - I don't care. I appreciate that they captured that one dimension so thoroughly rather than failing to capture many.)

Ready at Dawn gives Kratos weapons I wish he had in the console versions.

For serious. Here's hoping that some day there will be an HD collection of the PSP games, though who knows if I'll give a shit about GOW by that time.

I hope that Santa Monica are working on some new content for GOW3, either an expansion with a new weapon, or some kind of add-on to the original game that makes it fresh. I don't know at this point whether they're more likely to be doing that or working on a completely new project.

Loving the PSP this year. I got Peace Walker, P3P, VC2, Birth By Sleep over the past few months and now Ghost of Sparta looks like another must buy. All these games are gonna be keeping me busy for a while.

The story seems to be better than GoW III, yeah
The main french VG site gave the story 08/20. He said the story lacked any sense of ambition and Kratos' brother was just plain boring. So yeah, don't get your hopes too high.
On a side note, i didn't know the GoW 3 backlash on gaf was so strong. Geez...

Naah. We all agree that GoW III was a good game.

I found the gameplay, art direction, and events in the demo to be cooler than anything in GoW III.

I'd have to disagree with you there. The story seems to be better than GoW 3, but otherwise this looks like it'll be like CoO; a great game in its own right, but ultimately not as good as the main series entries.
