You like RT now?

I owe the AC shadows devs an apology. I kinda dunked on the game's visuals when it was announced but now that I'm playing it in balanced mode on PS5 pro, I have to say the game looks amazing, even breathtaking at times. Kudos to them.

New BF video showcasing destruction

Yeah, the destruction in this game is going to be amazing. Apparently, the dust clouds have their own physics and are affected by falling debris? At least, in the game's current iteration. Debris also can harm both humans and vehicles, and starts to pile up as more and more falls. Gonna be really cool.

But retro games don't have PBR & good lighting quality, and they don't run at 1440p.
Depending on how you run them retro games actually run at higher resolutions than that, the last time PBR was something to marvel at was 2013 and MKW has bog standard last gen lighting.
The art style is a taste thing, the tech is objectively garbage.
The only legitimate reason to post handheld games here is to make fun of them.

This is why i like this thread. For whatever reason, the rest of the forum hates doing a 180 on games. Ego, fear of losing forum cred, i dont know. But this thread consistently comes around on games after playing them. Alan Wake 2, Avatar, Outlaws, Silent Hill 2 and AC Odyssey all had their skeptics before launch, but I like that we dont dig in our heels and do give these games and devs credit.

Publishers and devs have to learn to show these games with a better level of fidelity. AC shadows was revealed with some of the worst looking screenshots ive seen and the youtube compression killed the details as usual. You almost have to ignore what you are seeing with your own eyes and go in on faith alone. Hope that RTGI and other next gen tech will come through when the game launches.

Going to shamelessly quote myself from last year when AC shadows was first revealed and people were mostly underwhelmed.
More and more i am impressed by what Ubisoft studios are doing. In other threads, RTGI was being blamed for a lack of a substantial graphics upgrade in Star Wars Outlaws and AC Shadows, but I think thats a very forward thinking upgrade that you will mostly only notice when you are playing the game, and the game's visuals remain consistent through out. Especially considering AC shadows has a full year long season cycle along with a day night cycle and i have no doubt that RTGI would help clean up the bounce lighting and AO issues we saw present in so many games last gen leading to a very flat look in a lot of lighting conditions.

the destruction in AC shadows also pretty much requires a realtime lighting solution. Games like starfield, callisto and star wars jedi survivor are packed with detail but dont have that destruction we see here, and I really believe it will add a lot to the combat as well as the presentation. I wish star wars outlaws had some of this destructibility. yes, the bamboo trees disappear after being cut down but at least they are cut down.

The nintendo conference really made me appreciate what Ubisoft studios are doing. They are going with dynamic elements like weather and destruction. Packing their games with an insane amount of detail we simply cant see on youtube due to poor uploads and compression. I really hope they ship a solid 30 fps version with no 60 fps option on consoles so people can truly appreciate the visuals instead of complaining about how the gen looks the same as last gen as they play scaled back 60 fps modes running at sub 720p.

Neon Giant, the developers behind the fantastic top down game Ascent, are making an ambitious first person shooter.

Some screenshots. Good to see indie devs take that risk and go for something far more ambitious. Im so pissed to see Hades retain the top down perspective.

I thought they had disbanded. Ascent is one of my top 5 sci-fi games of all time. I lived every second of that game.. the atmosphere is second to none
can't wait !!!!!

Oh my God it looks so good, kinda reminds me of Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart visuals, finally good lighting & PBR, very high resolution too, looks better than Ghost of Yotei.

I'm so getting it (the $500 bundle that is!)

It does have shit draw distance in some of its open world levels so i guess MKW does kind of remind me of ratchet as well.

They sold themselves to Krafton (same publisher as Callisto) so maybe thats why you thought they were disbanded.

Unlike the Callisto devs, they asked to remain a small 20 person team because they said they dont want managers and want each person in the team to feel like they had a meaningful contribution to the game. It will be interesting to see if this 20 person team can make an ambitious first person shooter. PC gamer said it sounds like an immersive sim so maybe something like Dishonored or Prey but with more interactivity.

Expedition 33 is also only 40 devs. its great to see UE5 allow these smaller devs to target AAA visuals without hiring 400 devs.

Avowed looks good. I dont care what anyone says. the level of detail is way higher than what i would expect from other games like KCD2. its no AC Shadows in terms of scope or lighting, but I am routinely impressed by its nanite usage.

Totally agree about Avowed.
After trailers i thought it would look and play like crap.
It turned out to look ver very good. Characters are the weak point, but geometry and lighting wise, its veru good. RTGI is doing good job, even on console.

It's funny because it's a story that repeats itself every time an AC is announced and gameplay is shown.

You see it and it doesn't surprise you, you almost don't see anything remarkable, very flat... until you play it on your screen because you bought it after those who are playing it start expressing their great impressions of the graphics and posting screenshots 😅😅

This generation is full of games with very good graphics and great visual details that, sadly, have been forgotten or ignored due to prejudices about the game and its developers; due to poor first impressions of the gameplay at the announcement; or simply because it is not a mass game with great sales and therefore unknown... Avowed surely enters that list with many others.

The character models (Cutscenes), materials quality and animations still blow me away in TLOU 2!!!!
I'm replaying it at 4K due to the show, and yeah, its crazy how good it still looks.

Tech may be outdated at spots, but character modeling is still some of the best in the business. Ellie character model is just insane. Every inch of it is pitch perfect. I was drooling at her sneakers during a cutscene.

Animations are also so good. Combat encounters are movie like, with enemies reacting realisticaly etc.

Again: games are so hard to make nowadays that the best looking ones (like RDR 2 or TLOU Part II) will continue to look amazing even many years later. And here we are: they still look amazing despite being at least 5 years old.

We might see games with better tech, better lighting, better models, better textures, but the overall package that those gems provide are still unreachable to many.

Assasins Creed Shadows, for example. Despite having RTGI and amazing look scenarios still have terrible character models and animations. Silent Hill 2 despite having great scenarios and character models still look stiff and bad compared to Part II.

I know it's nowhere near it technically, it's sometimes the rounded car models & the sharp yet smooth lighting mixed with good bloom effect & PBR while being cartoony, gives it that Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart look, let's say Ratchet PS4.

The second trailer for DOOM: The Dark Ages released, and watching it on my big TV at 4K, the game looks damn good. Definitely a few steps above Eternal in fidelity, detail, and tech with RTGI being clear as day.

Honestly, looking back the past few years, only sony studios have come close to matching TLOU2. Plague's tale has some great looking cutscenes but its a bit behind tlou2. There are some stunning sequences in SH2 and Wukong, but ND's writing and character models are just in their own league. Wukong probably has better cinematography though since they are able to push the scope much higher whereas TLOU2 mostly plays like a tv show with mostly character closeups.

TLOU1 remake cutscenes look a generation better than the gameplay scenes. Probably because they can up the character detail and add hero lighting everywhere. There are some odd looking shaders on Joel's face at times that make it look last gen, but Ellie, Bill, Tess and Henry all look absolutely amazing still.

Nanite works wonders in Avowed, also. The environments feel so well put together because of it.

from former Metro: Exodus devs
this game is compared to Killzone Shadowfall [for some reason]
and is being marketed as Crysis 4 [for another] , it's reportedly only 5-6 hours

Animation quality is gonna be supremely important to sell these lifelike models going forward.

You can make the most detailed humans but if they move like mannequins, the facade is gonna crumble.

Absolutely

And honestly, Part II is still king, 5 years later.

I cant think of a game with better looking animations

FF XV still looks so good due to its fluid animations, for example

Mate are you serious? That looks like shit lmao
I Was thinking the same.

Shit may be a strong word because except for when people post switch games pics for the lulz, we usually only post good\great looking games in here but yeah, that doesn't look impressive in the slightest except maybe the third pic.
