Simone fell and still got bronze. Legends only.
she didn't fall. the canadian fell, and you can see it in her score.
First medal in gymnastics period.
On beam touching the apparatus with your hand to regain balance is counted as a fall.
Same score for touching beam as for faceplanting on the ground.

that's harsh. but in that case i don't think falling is penalised enough.
No. She was penalized 0.5 instead of a full point. On beam touching the apparatus with your hand to regain balance is counted as a fall.

0.5 IS the penalty for a fall.
Plus you lose the value of the element you fell on.
I'm almost completely sure a fall is a full point.0.5 IS the penalty for a fall.

the announcer said that penalty for a fall is 1.0.
I'm almost completely sure a fall is a full point.
There is no score difference between falling onto the beam (which you get for grabbing it with your hand) or a full fall onto the floor.

In the Olympics, each gymnast must complete several skills as part of the routine, including dance and artistry essentials. If she fails to complete any of those, a deduction is taken. If the gymnast falls off the apparatus, it's a full-point deduction.
"In the Olympics, the scoring system is all about how much difficulty they can pack into a routine," Michigan's Plocki said.
The code I'm reading says 0.5 for grasping the beam to avoid a fall at page 49 and fall on mat 1.0 at page 29, you can easily find it on google and it's the current one.Your announcer is wrong.

Not sure where you got that table from but the fig rules state this unless something has changed. A fall is a point as far I have ever known.
Support on mat/apparatus with 1 or 2 hands each time 1.00
Fall on mat to knees or hips each time 1.00
Fall on or against apparatus each time 1.00
Failure to land feet first on landing from element each time 1.00
No those are the general deductions. It's in the code. Since the section about the beam doesn't contradict it it's safe to say touching is 0.5, falling is 1.Those are the deductions for Floor though. On Beam touching the apparatus is only 0.5, so not a full fall.

Yeah I thought he was disagreeing with darscot but rereading he probably wasn't.i think you two agree. biles was only deducted .5 because she grasped the beam to avoid a fall, but it would have been 1.00 had she fallen.
