Halo 5: Launch Gameplay Trailer

tbh i'll take the flat texture after playing Destiny, where any geometry you see is literally geometry. If Bungie made that, grenades would get stuck between the stones.

Nades got stuck in those Bungie textures all the time in Halo 3. Ruined MLG.

Those that belog to team Locke are nothing but heretics.

Interesting. Thanks for the info. There'll also be the regular MP playlists too right? Sorry for all the questions, haven't been following the game and the way point site isn't exactly brimming with more details.

Yes. Arena will be classic Halo multiplayer with modes such as Capture The Flag, Slayer, and so on. There will also be Big Team Battle shortly after launch.

lmfao, his reaction went from 0-60 real quick bruv

I could see it bugging people, but I'm reserving full judgment until I play it myself. A lot of great footage out there, so I don't think it'll bother me that much.

It's not about it bothering people that irks me, it's that they gum up threads or concern troll. We've known now for two+ years the game was aiming for 60fps, this was inherently going to require a sacrifice to visual fidelity. Some people come in and start saying, go play blah blah game on PC and see the difference, and therein lies the rub. The Xbox One isn't PC. If you compared them spec wise on a factual number basis, it would be a low end PC. They'll compare other games, other genres to make their point. But how many First Person Shooters on Xbox One look like Halo 5, while maintaining fully 60fps without so much as more than single dropped frames? Even Call of Duty Black Ops 3 dips to high 40's despite it.

I mean what do these folks want? Xbox One isn't going to have stronger hardware soon, Halo 5 isn't going to go back to 30fps, 343 is probably working with all the Xbox One designers like they did for 360 and Halo 4 to try and get as much power out of the box as they can. It's the first Halo game of the generation, much like Halo 3. If they could have had better textures while doing 60fps, they would, wouldn't they? Let's pixel peep and zoom into a screenshot from a small trailer as indicative of the gameplay. Let's ignore all the other things the game does right, to focus on the few negatives. This is the way the industry is now. Nothing else matters except the negative. Go ahead and compare Battlefront, Destiny, Call of Duty on Xbox One and then Halo 5. Battlefront is running at 720p, Halo 5 at its lowest resolution of 1152x810 gives you more pixels in the image than 1280x720.

I don't know, I mean at this point, it just feels like complaining for the sake of complaining to me.

Arena is the traditional Halo mode, 4v4 gametypes without all the extra crap from Halo 4. Everyone has spartan abilities ie Sprint, Ground Pound, so it's equal starts. BTB will follow soon after release which is also under the Arena umbrella.

The OP in this thread has a bunch of videos from Arena and Warzone so you can see it in action.

Was the native res ever announced? Surely it's better than 720p.

Double post but it goes from 1152x810 at lowest to 1920x1080. DF said the majority of the game is 1344x1080 which is higher than 900p in terms of pixels. Even at 1152x810 you get more pixels in the image than 720p, all while maintaining rock solid frame rate without any drops, except maybe a single frame here and there.

Exactly. Folk act like we haven't known that the Xbox One has an entry level GPU for a literal age. Then you add on the stress of rendering at 60FPS. It's almost comical how we've established the Xbox One as an underpowered next-gen console and then in the same breath expect these PC-esque levels of IQ and Performance from it's games.

Looking at what we're getting in Halo 5, as a PC gamer, I'm pretty content. It won't be the finest looking game I've ever played. It won't have spotless IQ and frankly, I'm sure I'll notice texture filtering here and there, but I will, ultimately, get used to it.
At the end of the day, this is the console we have. Bellyache all you want about MS' unfortunate hardware choices, but that won't change anything.

Anyways, 2 weeks until I can dong on your scrubs.

I think some people really are more naturally observant and inclined to notice these sorts of issues. It's a forum where people can discuss anything and everything about a game. People are so sensitive to this stuff, but it's a reality.

I usually notice this stuff immediately and it actually annoys me that I notice stuff like this so quickly. People don't merely point it out every time to just be a jerk, but it really does affect some people's experience (LOD issues, ugly dithering, pop in, texture filtering, post processing issues, frame rate issues etc).

I often say to look at a PC game because that's usually the only place where you can demonstrate these issues because they have custom settings where they can be toggled on/off.

I think the original post here accompanied by a gif was done for comedic affect btw.

Edit: I agree with the above post that Halo 5 is a looker considering the specs being worked with. It's funny how some people make these issues out to be game breaking though. I play CSGO at lower graphical settings because it makes it easier to spot enemies in the distance. Even going back to classic games I eventually adjust to the higher input lag and lower framerate. I feel these "issues" are more offensive in games the more realistic they look. It stands out more.

I think Halsey is going to die.You know someone is going to die

8 Main Characters
Arby
Jul
Halsey
Captain Infinity
Palmer

None of them are as endearing or colourful as Johnson and Guilty Spark.

Not really dead Cortana
Not really dead Didact

To be fair, let everyone live if they give me Palmer's head.

That Teishen Raikou armor set kind of reminds me of Guyver 1.

Trailer was hype. Felt the music in the latter portion took away from it though. :/

Hoping Youtube compression is adding some ugliness to those screenshots. After 3, I'm really not a fan of bad IQ masking a good artstyle.

So the ending of the trailer states that its the "Beginning of the greatest hunt...."; does that mean this is going to be a plot across multiple games?

Most likely someone on Blue Team, I'm thinking Fred. I also think that the ending will be a cliffhanger that will bum a lot of us out, until you beat it on legendary or probably recover all Intel items and you see 'something'. Who knows though.

Let's hope not.

Outside of the podcast, the "Hunt" marketing has been some of the most lackluster Halo marketing content.

Or someone leaks it in a few days time.

I'm super excited to play Halo 5 on PC!!!!

It's a trilogy storyline that started with Halo 4 I believe.

Ya but Halo 4 wasn't really about a hunt for John. Oh well, I guess we'll find out soon enough. I'm still betting we'll see the classic trope of them teaming up to fight something bigger (like something Forerunner). I hope I'm wrong and the game plays around with expectations but that's just my two cents :P

That's the Reclaimer (Chief/Humanity) trilogy that started with Halo 4, but they turned it into a Reclaimer Saga now. This Hunt the Truth stuff is all new after Halo 4. I'm guessing for whatever reason the forerunners/prometheans are awakening (even though they shouldn't still exist at this level), they'll most likely go away at the end as well.

Who knows. They said the Galaxy won't be the same after this. Maybe some big changes coming?

You don't need to zoom in to see that, it's literally 5 feet in front of the character.

I was too busy focusing on the jackal dive bombing that elite to notice the floor...

The nitpicking culture of the last two gens has gotten pretty annoying ... "Did you see that kill?" "Nope, I was too busy staring at the lack of cracks in the pavement"

I find it strange there's no vanilla XB1 bundle of MCC and Halo 5. Every single Halo game (throw in 360 codes for Reach and Wars) in one package would be killer.

Yeah. I know some people on the fence that would absolutely jump on that. Pretty much my old Xbox 360 group, now that most of us are on the PS4 this gen.

Real talk though: Does it sound like Halsley's on the verge of tears during her lines in this trailer? At first I thought it was an overly exaggerated "old person" voice, then I went back and listened again. Sounds brutal.

Can I ask you dudes a question about the Halo shows? I need the chronological order for:

Halo: Nightfall
Halo: Sparton Ops
Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn

If you're asking for it in the chronological order of when the events in each happen then it's like this:

FUD - Set at the beginning of the Human-Covenant War
Nightfall - Set in 2555, which is a few years after the Human-Covenant War
Spartan Ops - Set in 2558 and 6 months after the Didact's attack on Earth

If you're asking for in the chronological order in which they came out then it's like this:

FUD
Spartan Ops
Nightfall

Unless they've got a decent amount of anisotropic filtering in, that's not far from the truth.

It's the downside of having ambitious games on underpowered consoles unfortunately. You either suck it up and accept that visual fidelity is going to continue being a problem on consoles or you get your ass over to PC. It's a shame to be honest as I'm sure we all want the best looking game possible but with the current hardware limitations and aiming for 60 fps it's just not possible.

Either way I'm sure this will be the best Halo in years.

It just feels like all the pieces are falling in all the right spots at all the right times. It makes sense, too, because I remember in that Forbes interview, Frankie and Bonnie mentioned how they prepared extra well for this (story wise, gameplay mechanics, music score...etc.), and for the future of the franchise.

This looks like it will be one of those AAA exclusives that sets precedents on quality. Production seems very meticulous.

I've been wondering, and I'm not sure if it has been confirmed, but because the game runs at 60 fps, is that why there is no split screen? Just assuming that it just can't run that fast in split screen...
