Halo 5: Launch Gameplay Trailer

Anyone remember in the Sprints about them testing different tv settings on default; From High range to low end. Visual team focusing hard on on all aspecs... Looking out for the kids with 13inch screens in their room.

Speaking if sprints. When are the next ones again?

I think Oct 26.

When i played halo 5 beta in 60fps. I didnt know this was the halo i always wanted since halo 2.

They knew i wanted this even though i never did....

Man my hype levels are ridic. Hasnt been this high since waiting for halo 2.

All hail the conquering hero.

No one's gonna take me aliveeee
The time has come to make things righttttt
You and I must fight for our rightsssss
You and I must fight to surviveeeeeeeeee

-BAM, jam-

Nice buildup. Sometimes the hype gets to be too much, and this is one of those times.

You don't need to zoom in to see that, it's literally 5 feet in front of the character.

halo-5-guardians-offi2puew.png

It's not that you're zooming in, it's that you're taking a screenshots from a YouTube video and using a single part of that one screenshot to judge the entire game.

vlcsnap-2015-10-12-20n3puf.png

Compare the picture I showed to the one you're showing and look at how much more detail all the textures have... now imagine if instead of looking at snapshots of a video you were playing the game on your TV with no quality loss from video capture(let alone taking snapshots of said video) and it will look way better.

All of those screenshots prove his point.

Your screenshot only looks better because he's closer to the textures that are blurry in the first image. If you look at the textures that are that distance in your second screenshot you will notice that they're blurry as well.

Just look at the third gate on the third screenshot, you can see that at that distance the ground textures become extremely blurry because Halo 5's texture filtering isn't that great.

So there's a chance that it won't have the crisp and detailed texturing of Halo 4? That would be a real shame. Especially when Halo 4 on Xbox One was already 60fps, yeah yeah with framedrops here and there at times. I need to see the game for myself on my own TV before i can really judge it, but so far from the footage it really reminds me a lot of Halo 4. Would be lying if i didnt say i expected a lot more from the graphics. I am sure it will be awesome though....and Halo 4 still looks damn good.

Halo 4 had godawful filtering

.

Id like to get back OT with the trailer scenes..Can anybody make out that silhouette body slamming what looks like an Elite at 1:44 secs? I thought it was Arby, but I'm not 100%

He is closer? Are you joking? The elite and jackal are pretty much in the same exact location in both pictures.

My screenshots are better because I actually used the high quality video from Microsoft's media assets page.

Anyone basing the graphics of a game on screenshots from a YouTube video is completely disingenuous and borderline trolling.

Higher quality screenshots aren't going to increase the texture filtering.

Of course he is closer, are you kidding me? Open both of these screenshots and switch back and forth between tabs. He is about 3-4 yards closer in your screenshot which would make the ground textures that are blurry look clearer in the second screenshot because now they're right below his feet. That's the WHOLE point of texture filtering, the closer you are to something the clearer the textures will be.

I'm not being disingenuous here and what I'm stating isn't an opinion but a fact. It's a fact that Halo 5 has low texture filtering and it's a fact that in your screenshot he's closer to the textures and it's a fact that the textures will look clearer because he is closer.

Higher quality screenshots aren't going to increase the texture filtering.

Low quality screenshots aren't going to lower the texture filtering...

Are you serious right now?

YouTube blurs the video which in turn blurs images which in turn makes a game look way worse than it actually does.

Do you understand what texture filtering is? Because I don't think you do.

Here's a picture showing it since you don't seem to know how it looks.

I wish that trailer did anything for me. But it doesn't. It really, really doesn't.

As a longtime Halo fan it feels a bit sad but I'm definitely not getting this on day 1.

Its the lack of Anistropic Filtering man. Its pretty clear its at an extremely low leve.

See my edit.

Also, those 2 images are pretty much the exact quality.

Let me ask again, do you know what texture filtering is and how it works? Because anyone who does will look at Halo 5 and know that it's low.

[edit]

Since you're not going to believe me for whatever reason, maybe you'll listen to reason if Digital Foundry says it.

I like how you guys are going back and forth about textures or some shit and nobody has mentioned that a Jackal is effing straight up superman tackling an elite in that screenshot.

The priorities here *shakes head*

Hey, Hunt the Truth is tomorrow. Don't worry about filtering and jaggies. Worry about what is going to happen to Fero!

Here's a picture showing it since you don't seem to know how it looks.

I know exactly what AF is, it doesn't change the fact that a recorded video of a game looks nowhere near what the game actually looks like on a TV.

See my edit.

Except they aren't, I'm looking at them on my 40" monitor.

I know what AF is and it doesn't change the fact that basing a games graphics on screenshots taken from a video is dumb.

The game definitely looks better in motion. Some compromises had to be made to maintain the game at 60FPS and it shows more on screenshots. Now can we move on ;)

This whole discussion is a bit nitpicky but y'all trying to avoid the fact that the AF is visibly low, are pretty wrong, and you need to deal with that. This is one of those things that's just plain evident. Compression isn't going to create an effect that looks so clearly like low AF without applying a similar level of obfuscation to the rest of the image.

I think the game looks great, for the record, and of course it'll look better rendered natively in motion on our television sets or monitors. I'm just saying.

as a tangent I wish that I could somehow cross-reference the posters who believe this looks fantastic and the posters who believe that Fallout 4 looks like last gen shit, just for kicks and giggles. I'm sure the results would be quite telling. I think both games look great at any rate. I can't decide if I'm gonna get an Xbox One and Halo 5 yet, but I'm borrowing a friend's Xbox this week to test the quality of Windows 10 streaming in my home, and if I'm satisfied, I'mma make it happen. As turned off as I have been by some of the MP decisions, I'll always be a sucker for Halo campaigns, and this one seems like the absolute shit.

That's all I see too. All that's missing is a Michael Bay explosion going off behind him. Looks cool.

I never said that the quality is going to create low AF, I said that compression will make a game look worse than it actually does(Which should be common sense.)

Also the time difference between this screenshot:

and this screenshot:

is so small that in motion you are likely to never notice it in this particular scene.

I never said that the AF isn't low, I'm saying that him basing the entire games graphics on a single screenshot from a video is disingenuous.

Who is basing their opinions on a single screenshot? We have enough footage to know what the final game will look like and it looks exactly like it does in that screenshot.

By the way, here's your and his screenshot side by side since you think his is mega blurry while yours shows how good Halo 5 actually looks.

g0009NF.png

They look exactly the same.

I was really looking forward to this game until the huge bombshell of the texture filtering. Now the dream is dead.

I hope no one thinks that because the texture filtering is god awful that means I won't buy the game or something. The beta was awesome and I'm super hyped for the game but trying to say that the texture filtering isn't low is just incorrect. Or trying to downplay it by saying that a screenshot somehow is making it look worse than it really is.
