Halo 5: Launch Gameplay Trailer

Welp I'm in! The awesome co-op options got a nod from my wife so she will be my partner in space
several thousand mile high club?
ftw!

I keep holding my self back on this trailer to watch it on the big TV. I've only got tiny 1280x1024 monitors at work :(

That gif with the elite charging someone looks amazing.

AF on-topic again? Can't we be happy that this is the first Halo game which is SOLID 60fps and still looks a generation ahead?

Hmmm...could be. It looks rather cool though. Man all those locations look great in the trailer. Personally i would have chosen a much different song to go with the trailer though.

Should've went with Breaking Benjamin
;P
Honestly though, I thought the song went with it fine and and enjoyed how it was edited. It coming in right at Buck's "contact" was cool and gave me goosebumps. Can't wait for this game.

OK I'm back to liking her less now.

Spartan IIs are the best and only true Spartans. You can ask anyone.
I feel like Nylund's Spartan IIIs deserve some recognition. They were the original half-assed bargain bin Spartans, but what made them cool was that everyone knew that and no-one acted like they were an adequate replacement. You gotta root for the underdog, right?
They were the weakest of the bunch and had the worst equipment, but they made it work and it didn't turn them into smug douchebags, which seems to be a requirement for enrollment in the Spartan IV program.

TBF - most of them didn't live long enough...

Hmm, you have a point. It's been too long since I've read Nylund's books. I hope Microsoft hires him to do another one someday. Still the best Halo author, with all due respect to Bear, Staten, and Fronklez.

I hate the Spartan IVs' fratbro attitudes. Know your place, jerks!

Yeah, weren't Spartan III's considered a "Fire and forget" type of weapon?

It makes sense SIV's are sort of smug and douchey. Spartan II's were robbed of most of their humanity and had no one to look back on, SIII's knew they would likely die on any given mission and saw that even SII's only have a handful left. Spartan IV's? They are volunteers to become super soldiers. Their role model? Master Motherfuckin' Chief. The savior of humanity. All of them think they are the next Master Chief in the making. Of course you'd be smug.

To grow up to be smug jerks? I dunno, Spartan IIs turned out alright while becoming transgalactic celebrities at the same time.

That would be nice, but so much of what I liked about his novels is gone now and the characters I'd most like to see him return to have been altered to the point where I couldn't force myself to care about them anymore.

I'm still holding out hope that he can piece together the shattered and befouled remains of Dr. Halsey's character. Maybe some sort of flashback story, lol. All I want is to see one of my favorite characters restored to not-Hitler status.

Karen Traviss pls.

I could be wrong, but we have yet to find out why Locke is hunting Chief, right? We all know he is a hero and far from a badguy. I don't recall anything in Halo 4 implying that he was the badguy. If i'm wrong, do fill me in please.

All that's known is that Chief and Blue Team go AWOL early in H5. There's some hints to what's going on in Hunt The Truth, but nothing concrete.

Wasn't that Incubus? And yes, it was terrible.
Most disgusting post ITT. Incubus's contribution to the Halo 2 soundtrack was a half hour prog rock Odyssey that you heard the first part of when chasing heretics in a banshee as the Arbiter. It opened with the classic chant and had Flea from RHCP on trumpet and nods to Pink Floyd.

Bungie's Spartans, maybe, but these guys are just wearing skintight bodysuits with a few metal bits glued to them here and there. Vale's armor would have to be paper thin if she's not secretly a magically animated skeleton.
#TeamSecretSkeleton
Pretty sure the "skin-tight bodysuits" are all liquid metal and crystal and stuff which are the reason the suits actually amplify strength/speed. Even in Reach with the GOAT beat-up-chunky-practical-VCR-on-the-front armour design the undersuit was pretty prominent.

The song was pretty good (instrumental version of course) but I still don't know wtf kind of time signature it's in

Not a fan of the music, but goddamn was that a cool trailer!

Know my buddy went through the roof when he saw this haha.

ONI pulls a lot of shady shit and have deemed Chief as a rouge and want him dead, again probably because of really shady ONI stuff. I'll be pretty happy if this starts ONI's downfall

Do you guys know if the game is gonna have a free for all/lone wolf/slayer game mode when it launches? I've searched but found nothing on this issue.

There's a tape of him shooting a room of civilians in #huntthetruth season 1.

All the "civilians" he killed were members of an extremist group called Sapien Sunrise - no genuine civilians were killed by the Chief. It's slightly unclear as to whether ONI are pinning this on him, or they're riding the wave of ignorance.

We don't really know what gamemodes its launching with besides Warzone and what we've played in the beta with Arena.

Hopefully this is addressed soon.

Thanks. With Halo 4, they introduced free for all months later after launch, I really hope this isn't the case since it's my favorite mode....

That's nice, but no amount of technobabble will make those look like heavy armor.
I didn't think Reach's undersuits were all that prominent (except on Kat's huge ass), but at the very least they had layers upon layers of thick materials. 343's Spartans tend to look like they're wearing nothing at all. Nothing at all. Nothing at all.

Oh shit, that sounds interesting. I have to look this Hunt the Truth stuff up i think, i honestly have not been checking it out at all. Any links where all the info is at?

I love all the marketing for this game because it's gotten my wife passively pumped about it too. She's not a gamer, but has grown up with her family obsessed with music so The Sprint was awesome for her. I've used that excitement to validate a week off work, OLED goodness and some speaker action. Im pumped like I was 12 years ago, lol

Hunt the Truth is the best piece of extended universe fiction Halo's had in a long time. Essential listening if you have any interest in the lore.

I really hope that Locke remains on the hunt for chief. I'm gonna be rather disappointed if he and his team becomes buddy buddy at the end of the game. Right now it seems like quite the good set up and it would be a shame for them to just throw it away. Then again I haven't played the game so I don't know if maybe the story beats would have me changing my mind on that.

Think I used to count it as alternating bars of 9/8 and 11/8, for the main riff (beyond that I wouldn't have a clue). Incubus actually use odd signatures a fair bit, even in their more popular stuff.

My point was that that's how it's always been (being heavier than they look), not that this was some new lore justification for 343's designs. My opinion is that the biggest problem with the newer under-suits was the combination of the Crysis style upper body with slimmer bodies in general. The latter of these appears to have been changed for 5 and more attention is called to the chunkiness/layering of the under-armour around the legs, for example. I reckon designs like MC, Fred, Buck and Noble look legit beefy as a result, as long as you can look past the colourful hexagonal muscle fibre stuff going on under their chest plates. Actually, I'm not sure Buck has that, or if he does maybe you can't see it that often.

As an aside, I really liked the sort of plated/banded thing for the underparts on the early suits seen in Halo Wars and funnily enough it's Locke's suit that has something similar in 5. Also, I never really liked the old little flat top pyramid shoulders so I wish Noble had Carter's/Commando shoulders from Reach, especially since they're more in line with Chief and Fred's big pauldron style.

Yeah, thread's gone downhill.

Holly Michaels, hamsters, and Elzar posting erotic fan fiction for the most part.

On a much less serious note... dat Holly Michaels doe
