Seems wrong, but I'm glad you mentioned this because you reminded me that the Blu-ray is out now. Looks like the MSRP is $24.99 like Season 2, at least.
Ugh at the two years. Not surprised though. I really want this to happen.

BTW, Gillian Anderson is magnificent. What a rare joy to hear that woman talk about threesomes, the world of fanart, and her costars doing the big nasty. Everyone listen to the Episode 1 commentary right now, it's amazing.

My trip to Florence, Italy was another great reminder of what a brilliant concept film tourism is. We got to see all the great sights, but also had some lovely, fun encounters with the locals while running around looking for the locations used while filming the third season of NBCs Hannibal.

I wasn't super happy with season three as it went on, but man, they really stuck the landing. I hope they do more one day.

This is really cool.
So I bought the Blu-ray Collection on one of Amazon's Black Friday deals. Wasn't as keen on Season 1 (though the ending was fantastic), but Season 2, and now Season 3, just wow. Incredible stuff. It also has a uniqueness to it that I've not really seen or experienced elsewhere, even within the thriller or horror genres, or past Hannibal movies for that matter. The finale was just immense. Beautiful, gripping, powerful, ending in an almost perfect way.
I really do hope we get another season, not because the show itself needs one from a narrative perspective, but for my own selfish desire in simply wanting more Hannibal esque entertainment. Whilst a more resolute and obvious ending would be ideal, Season 3's finale still works perfectly well as a series finale.

Well I picked up season 3 and watched it, I would say I liked Season 2 better (but season 3 is still good). I'm dissapointed that one of the only shows I started watching gets cancelled.. Here's hoping that S4 gets picked up by someone...

Fuller said in a recent interview that he wants to do S4 in two years. All of the key people seem to be on board. I haven't given up hope yet.

I finally found the time to watch the third season once and for all.
I'm still in shock.
After watching the entire season over the course of the past couple of weeks, I'm fully convinced that Hannibal has never been more Hannibal. Surely enough, the first half of the season delved into the onyric to the point it almost turned into an exercise in navel gazing, but Fuller was just developing a TV monster behind its artsy-fartsy facade. The tearful return of Abigail, Margot's scheming, Mason's sick return, the food porn... Everything was great, but I just couldn't be ready for the second half of it.
Let's just start saying that Fuller did an inspired choice when he picked Richard Armitage to play Dolarhyde. His physicality was amazing, and so was his acting. I wasn't familiar with the character (Manhunter is also on my backlog), but I absolutely loved how imposing, menacing and just plainly deranged he was. And then there's Rutina Wesley being downright exquisite in every scene. Such a great pick. Not only those two saved what was looking like a fairly bizarre if highly entertaining season, but elevated it like I couldn't expect.
And then there's the rest. Alana embracing the powersuit after giving herself to the vadge (those suits!), Bedelia on some next-level Victorian acting, that GORGEOUS scene at the zoo, Hannibal sharing his best lines yet (oh my God at that finger wagging quip), fucking Chilton surviving like the cockroach that he is (it stands to the everlasting credit of Hannibal that no other TV show has had more fake-outs in so few episodes, yet every single one had me grasping the living room's pillows), the glorious writing...
The finale itself was an actual piece of art. Fuller giving the fannibals a collective heart attack by embracing the murder husband notion, the incredible Hannibal-Will tag team, that insane scene after the credits (Gillian Anderson's game was off the charts and she didn't even say a single word)... Just everything.
I'm content. This may have been the last season of Hannibal, but just like I said a few days ago at The Knick's OT, I'm happy. I feel like I shouldn't even ask for more. I don't care if some plotlines weren't resolved nor if we never knew why Bedelia was hiding her fork at the end of the finale. I'm just happy that I had the opportunity to watch one of the most unique, tense and artistic thrillers ever developed for any medium.

It was in this thread that I basically called the roadmap for him getting to Star Trek, so it makes sense that I call the Hannibal "Silence of the Lambs" miniseries to be a Netflix thing (4 episodes, like the Gilmore Girls revival) in five years, after the third season of the Star Trek show, after Fuller's handed over the reins of that show to Michael Rymer.

finally finished the 3rd season after stopping halfway through because of boredom annnnnnd... still unimpressed really. Huge step down from 1 and 2 in almost every conceivable way imo.

The amount of fakeout deaths in this season were absurd, Chiyoh's motivations were just all over the place, the incredibly robotic acting from everyone involved, the boring pretentious of every single slo-mo shot especially apparent in the first half, the tumblerization of the finale... ugh

I was listening to some Lutoslawski and one of the pieces sounded very Reitzell-ish. I wonder if it was at all an influence.

On that account, I should be said that Hannibal's international distribution was hit and miss.
AXN Spain did a wonderful job bringing the episodes as fast as they could and they even enlisted chef José Andrés for the promos (hell, they went as far as to put the first episodes of the first season on frigging YouTube to build up hype) but that's a premium channel and nearly nobody knows about it
I feel like the show could have benefited from a bigger push in order to broadcast it on some more mainstream channels, but at the same time Hannibal was probably way too slow and grotesque for most European networks.
Finally hung it up.
I actually just got around to framing and hanging my Mondo poster too:
Gotta give a shout out and public thank-you to Anton Sugar, cause the day this poster went on sale I had my phone all logged in to the Mondo site ready to go. Then I get called into a meeting and right then is when stuff went on sale, and by the time I realized it was sold out already. Anton pm'd me and had ordered the vinyl and poster both, and offered to sell me the poster for cost (since he already had the stag poster). After making certain he was absolutely cool with that, we did it, swapped Paypal money and Mondo shipped it straight to me! Incredibly generous, and testament to how cool our little Hannibal-GAF community is.
