Hey Nintendo! Remember that Miiverse Smartphone App that was coming soon™?

Vanillalite

Ask me about the GAF Notebook
What the heck ever happened with that? Also while on the subject. Remember that Mario Kart 8 app as well?

Yeah... *Crickets Chirping*

Both MiiVerse and Mario Kart TV have mobile-optimized / responsive versions, so I'm pretty sure that's what they were referring to.

Mario Kart 8 app is just the site, isn't it?

I thought that they were just supposed to be the mobile friendly versions of the webpages? Certainly, the Mario Kart one was.

Oh, okay. Glad to hear it. Thank you!

Boo. I thought it would be a native app. Mobile sites are a slightly clunky experience.

The MK8 one is a web app. Pin the website on your home screen (or whatever) and it will function and look exactly like a native app would. Miiverse works similarily, although it will just open the browser like any other website pinned to the home screen.

Miiverse web version is garbage compared to what a natively coded app would be. Ditto with MK8. Though the MK8 site is better than Miiverse mobile wise.

The mobile web version of Miiverse is more functional than the 3DS counterpart. Never heard Nintendo ever specifically refer to developing an actual native application for Android and iOS ... in fact, outside of the apps done by The Pokemon Company, don't think mainline Nintendo really acknowledges the existence of mobile platforms outside of their own.

Edit:

There's nothing that special about the the MK8 site. It's literally a glorified YouTube portal with some stat tracking. No idea what Miiverse is compared to ... Twitter without friends?

Kind of goes without saying that if you think the web version of garbage, the 3DS version has its own orbit outside normal space junk.

Please Understand....

Either japan has 0 network programmers or they were all hired by sony. Nintendo still doesnt understand the world wide web let alone mobile development.

MiiVerse works okay as a web app. Certainly better than the 3DS version. If they spent any resources on MiiVerse in the near future, it should be making a native version for the 3DS. It's painfully slow as it is now.

I'm guessing MiiVerse will be part of the big mysterious app that Nintendo is working on now. They said they want it to be an app that you activate every day, so they've got to cram as much content as possible into it in order to achieve that. MiiVerse is an easy source of content.

On iOS at least, they didn't allow it so you can have it open in a web view. Last time I tried pinning it to the home screen it just opens back in Safari again.

So just being better than the 3ds app is the bar these days? If so holy shit...

Only thing I can't understand is how any of this is relevant to the thread.

I like the Miiverse mobile page, and besides if there was an app it'd be Apple and Android only, so I'd be out of luck. So count me as happy with the situation.

Mario Kart 8 definitely works like an app in iOS, I use it that way. Miiverse just opens the page via the browser, but I think that's how it works on Android, too.

Yeah I noticed when browsing Miiverse on Safari that it works almost as good as a dedicated app would. You can even make an launch icon for it (I think under the bookmark menu). MK8 is probably the same way, this reminds me to check it out.

Is that what I said? What I was trying to express was that they should improve the 3DS version before focusing on anything else.

Improving the 3DS app is probably hardware dependent. 3ds hardware was made to play games, but not so much for general usage apps.

Not saying I wouldn't be happy with that being better, but I'm not sure how much better it can be.

I know we can do a fuck ton better than the mobile site though on iOS and Android.

I find Miiverse mobile pretty great. I really don't think a dedicated app offers much more other than being able to draw.

MiiVerse is a web app on 3DS and Wii U as well. If they could improve it on iOS/Android by creating a native version, they also could improve it on the 3DS by creating a native version.

I'll grant that iOS and Android are a lot easier to develop for as they have really robust native APIs.

The Web app for miiverse works well on my phone. If I had any interest in keeping up with miiverse, I would use my phone over my 3ds.

So ... August 7 was the day that Flipnote Studio 3D was delayed forever and never heard anymore ....

Should we try to do some twitter hashtag or mass posting on nintendo facebook page on that day ?

We can call it .... Operation Dimensional Frog ! =O

3ds hardware isn't exactly strong for general usage apps. It isn't the same or near the hardware of current iOS or Android devices.
