So basically, Blu-ray had 1 exclusive title which isn't a format seller by any means, and it certainly isn't a title that the vast majority of PS3 owners would buy.
...so what your saying is that unless MS includes HD DVD in the 360 then HD DVD is in trouble.maharg said:I don't see how either of the posts that quoted me contradict what I said. In fact, they agree with it.
To reiterate, my point was that I don't think most people assumed that exclusives were driving sales of BluRay (especially since I'm pretty sure even non-exclusives were doing better on bluray). It's pretty clear that the sales jump started with the PS3 and continues with the PS3.
You have a lot of people out there who would not have otherwise bought a high-def player at this point who now have one, and that's driving a lot of the sales right now. HD-DVD does not and has not ever had this (it might have if MS had included HDDVD in the package with the X360 -- and I wonder how much pressure is on them to do so now from Toshiba), and so its sales are coming only from the Innovator group (the one before early adopters) while BluRay is coming from the larger pool of early adopters.
It's interesting to note that the last article pasted states that standalone players are selling about even. I don't think the non-gamer media whore crowd has even begun to weigh in on this yet.
For the second month in a row, Blu-ray disc sales exceeded those of HD DVD by 2:1, with trade magazine Video Business today citing industry sources as saying a total of 250,000 Blu-ray movies were sold in February, versus an estimated 125,000 HD DVD movies in the same timeframe.
Perhaps more interesting, though, are the per-format sales for the month's top selling disc on both formats, Warner's 'The Departed.' Again according to numbers published by Video Business, in its first week of release, 'The Departed' sold 20,000 units on Blu-ray versus 13,000 on HD DVD.

maharg said:It definitely looks that way right now for sure. Looks. There's a lot of room for new plays though, and I do think people are calling the winner far too early. There are still a lot of people who need to be convinced one way or the other even within the obvious high def market.
I'll admit my bias openly, though. I want them both to fail because I want them to move on from thinking they can control what I do with things I buy. So I don't want to see formats with heavy copy control become entrenched. Maybe I'm too optimistic, but I still believe in voting with my dollars.
C4Lukins said:The thing about HD-DVD, if it can maintain 20% to 33% of the market, will it really die? Especially if you consider that BR is outpacing DVD right now. If 4 years from now, HD-DVD has say 25% of the market, and the two formats combined are equal or have surpassed DVD at that point in its lifetime, is it really dead? If you were to look at it on console terms last gen, 25% would be the XBOX plus several more millions users. I think both formats will make it, as long as major studios are supporting them. If HD-DVD loses any of its current support, it could very well die. But if it can maintain its current support and possibly gain another studio in there somewhere it could sustain itself on life support. It will not win, unless the PS3 just starts to completely bomb, but having a signifigant percentage of the home media market will keep it alive whether they defeat BR or not. You can look at the DS and PSP as examples. One can beat the living shit of the other one without kicking it out of the market.

Ethernet is effected if that's the case, I don't use the wireless functionality.XMonkey said:If your PS3 is freezing during playback try disabling the internet connection (most people that have it use wireless, not sure if ethernet is effected). It's a bug in the current firmware 1.5+, and will most likely get sorted out soon.

But I think as soon as George Lucas utters the words, "Star Wars" "Blu-Ray" and "coming soon", we can call that the nail in the coffin. Yes, I want to see all that in HD glory.

Stinkles said:Because the dash and some games looks like shit in 1080i on a lot of fixed pixel displays, or because he has a CRT, or any number of reasons.
