Chicken Little's aspect ratio is 1.78:1...the exact same as a 16:9 screen(16 divided by 9=1.78 rounded off). By comparison, Happy Feet's aspect ratio is 2.40:1...so when played on a 16:9 screen, there will be black bars. There are also movies with an aspect ratio of 1.85:1(such as The Holiday), which is not as wide as 2.40, but still wider than 1.78, so you'll have black bars, but smaller than a 2.40 movie. Oh, and just for reference, SDTV's 4:3 screen is equal to 1.33:1

Does anyone really need any of these Matrix extras anymore. I mean, I really don't need to hear anymore self important documentaries concerning these movies trying to explain how "deep" its philosophy is when I can get the same damn information out of a plot FAQ off the internet.

I'll be surprised if Happy Feet on HDDVD doesn't outsell the BD version. If only for the fact that the BD version doesn't have a lossless audio track and people need to quit buying these gimped BD releases. I'd hope any dual format supporter would buy the HDDVD version for that alone.

Just bought Rocky Balboa and Black Hawk Down last night on Bluray.
Rocky looks unreal. Visually, it's probably one of the best looking Bluray transfers I've seen. Black Hawk Down is also pretty, but the area it really shines in is sound - the movie sounds ****ing awesome.
Check em out, you won't be dissapointed.

The Matrix sequels may not be great films but they have great scenes in them. The mansion fight, and freeway chase in the second and the entire Zion Battle in the third is enough for me to want to see them in HD again.

Just got my PS3 a couple weeks ago. Just bought my first two Bluray movies over the weekend. Rocky Balboa, and Casino Royale.
I'm really wondering what you guys think about the pricing strategy these studios are using right now. Does anyone else think they could be selling these things like hotcakes if they just priced them a bit more reasonably? I'm not even saying the same price as regular DVD, but just lower than where they are now.
I"d like to see the day and date release of Bluray movies, and have them be on sale at Best Buy for $19.99, while the regular DVD would likely be $16.99. I think that would be fair, and I think Bluray movies would be moving even faster than they already are. It's just a shame that they desperately want to try and stick it to the early adopters. I think it just helps perpetuate the idea that these new formats are only for the rich right now. Sure, I just bought two movies, but I know i'm not gonna be buying them regularly until they come down to the $20 range.

I think the Blu-Ray movies are reasonably priced.
DVD's usually sell for around $26-$30 for major releases. Blu-Ray movies at Future or Best Buy is usually around that range. So no, I don't feel like I've gotten ripped off. I got Casino Royale for $29.99, I think that's reasonable.

Sounds like HDDVD is going to have a 100 dollar player out this summer... should be interesting to see what that does for sales... it also means you could see some Black Friday door buster HDDVD offers that could be insanely low as well.

Once that market is tapped fully, then prices will come down a bit, and the market will expand, and so on. Companies are going to try to maximize each and every market at each and every price point. DVDs weren't the "$14.99 first week of new release" price that they are now when they first came out...plus you have to have some kind of significant price differential so as not to "de-value" the new HD market. Also, profit margins on DVDs now are really narrow, so that price range is not attractive to studios.

Its all rumor at this point, but several different websites are saying so.... its going to be a cheap chinese player for sure.. its part of 12 new players being launched over 40 brands (i.e. different names slapped on the same hardware) worldwide by year end.

Yeah, I also calibrated his TV with a coloromitor when I bought that for him... he adjusted it right back to overblown contrast, way to bright, black levels that are greyish, green push and sharpness maxed out.
I try to get him hooked up with top level stuff, but he just doenst care. :lol

I'm pretty sure my TV needs calibrating. I find it tough to calibrate it (just eyeballing it) correct enough for the flesh tones. Some movies are fine, but some other movies (Casino Royale) everyone has a redish tint. Like too much blush. But i think my blacks are black enough.

The only thing the should have done to improve it was get someone who knows about guns in there to show these clueless actors how to wield guns without looking like idiots. Seriously. But hey, it's still pretty cool.

Its very likely your contrast and sharpness are WAAAY to high. Most people think properly set up contrast looks blurry.. but if you give it a week to adjust the 3d effects you get will be 10x better.
It also comes with color filters to let you get your color decoding close to right.
