Anyone have weird visuals when using Fidelity mode?

If the camera stands still the image gets really sharp/bright and washed out, almost like HDR gets disabled while standing still

The moment I turn the camera it starts to look less sharp but the colors are more vibrant

This effect isn’t as noticeable in Performance mode…wtf is this? Is this normal? Also seem to pick up what appears to be some screen tearing too
Yup, noticed this. Like the whole screen changes gamma or luma or popatamus or one of those technical bollocks when you're going from not moving to movement.

Definitely a change in vibrance. Maybe a HDR thing? Needs patching.

Just a heads up, hdr seems to be broken on some tvs so if you are noticing weird shimmering or darkening try turning it off on the game/tv level

Not an HDR thing; I turned mine off and this is still there. Combine with this weird FPS issue and I am NOT having good first impression here. Maybe it's because of the "PS5 Upgrade" bit (but why would that matter, it's not like the upgrade is patching the PS4 version, it should just be the PS5 version).

Yea it’s extremely distracting. There’s something off with the contrast and lighting that can’t be properly adjusted in the settings. HDR looks borked

Playing at 60fps until this gets patched, can’t believe this made it to the finale day 1 release

Some things early on:
- I have an older LG TV and had to fuss with HDR settings on the TV and game for quite a bit to not only make it look right, but to stop weird brightness-related issues from happening when I panned the camera. May be a bug, could be the universe telling me to replace my old fuck TV already with an OLED
- The haptics are amazing
- I like <character X in introductory area, a returning face> but man does he get in the way. That tutorial type area lasted longer than it should have
- The game plays pretty much identical to Zero Dawn, minor jank and oddities and all, which is both comforting but also makes me wonder why they didn't bother to polish some of this jankiness out (it's not bad by any means, just very noticeable especially if you played Zero Dawn)

I think quality mode is the way to go. Guerilla did a good job with the default motion blur settings and general animations so 30 fps isn't hurting my eyes and head here. Looks good.

You're not alone, I'm on C7 Oled and the screen is flickering for me when i pan above Aloy and stopped to stare at the rocks and the moss

This brightness thing is most prevalent on prefer image/resolution but there's still a slight hint even on performance, not as bad, mind. Just turned off HGIG to see if it was anything to do with that but no change.

Will try no HDR in the afternoon and have access to both an Oled and Qled so will see if there's any difference there. Only for science, I'm not too fussed, will carry on enjoying the game as much as I have tonight. Just got me scratching my head is all.

I actually had to put my TV in "Gaming" mode (which I've never used because it tended to look terrible on the system) and that's completely fixed all the issues including the color saturation changing when you move the camera.

So something is definitely up. I am on a TCL 6 Series if anyone else is having the same issues and has a similar setup.

Got to play for an hour before I need to go to bed.
I needed to adjust the audio to lower music and ambience so that I could hear Varl talking. The visuals are indeed a wow Factor. I’m playing in resolution mode. The pull caster took me several tries to figure it out. I’m either tired or missed the obvious. Jump then simply jump again while aiming at a pull point. Will take some getting used to but I’ll get it.
First impressions are very Good so far.

the checkerboard rendering in this looks awful. it seems to me going with a native 1440p would have been the better choice tbh.

the CBR in combination with lots of vegetation is a really bad mix. the Antialiasing is completely unable to do its job in this mode it seems.
and at no point does it actually look convincingly like 1800p

This is easily the best looking console game so far. The 30fps is done well too, doesn't feel as sluggish as most.

It's killing my OCD though with all the scanning lol. There's loot everywhere!!!

I guess the only complaint I'd have is the low fov when zooming in to scan, and the difficulty sometimes finding the items and points of interest in heavy foliage areas.

Soooo I have played this a bit now. Have not finished the intro section but I am a bit surprised.

Surprised at how unpolished it feels? I know the reviews talked about bugs, and I did install some kind of patch that was available, but come on. It's riddled with weird issues all in the first hour, and some of it is surely going to last the duration of the game, because I feel like there are some weird rendering issues happening.

-First off, performance mode looks bad IMO. There is no way I can play in that mode. It's incredibly soft and looks like an old gen game in this mode. Ok back to resolution mode.
-There is a ton of noise in the image at times. Someone, somewhere, also mentioned edge enhancement being done, and how you can clearly see it happening because the screen "darkens" as the camera moves and brightens up again when you stop, because all of the edges have a white haze. This person was exactly right and this does happen. It's incredibly distracting. I've seen some flickering of the screen as well when just standing there.
-The intro-intro that first plays has a ton of frame hitches in it when the camera changes, with things popping into view while it's playing etc. I gave Forza Horizon 5 crap for this, and its right here too. Not a good look at all IMO.
-When I first got the pull caster every step I was taking was shooting up massive clouds of dust (even when I was on grass) and the dust wasn't even coming from where Aloy's feet were hitting the ground. It looked positively ridiculous ...
-I just don't see anything that screams "next gen" to me so far. The screen captures and stuff we've seen on this board look way better than actually playing the game, and I'm on a new 85" Sony 4k tv with complete surround. Oh yeah, the surround audio seems well done. Did like that so far.
-When cutscenes come on, the visual quality takes a noticeable leap. The game does look great here, and the character animation and voice acting seem much improved over part 1.

It's early still, and art wise it looks fantastic, yes. But rendering quality and tech wise ... uh I hate to say it but it DOES feel like a "cross gen" game to me, more than anything I've played on my PS5 so far. I was able to play Demon's Souls in performance mode and that game still looked razor sharp and felt rock solid visually in that mode. It was amazing looking and still is. Ratchet at 4k/30 also still trounces the presentation of this game. No one is going to mistake this thing for anything other than a video game, unlike Ratchet at times.

Melee combat felt improved. I like the robot Dino theme still. It seems like they are poking fun at Elon Musk in the intro and not really hiding it. Not sure what that's about. But yeah, I'm a little disappointed. Outside of nice art production I see nothing new or that impressive to me here. I still rank Demon's Souls and Ratchet higher. Hell, even Returnal didn't have the issues this one does. We will see if it improves as I get farther, but again, I don't see how the rendering tech is going to get any better. I'm seriously wondering about the reviews when it comes to the graphics personally.

Edit: See, I hate when people do this stupid "laugh" emoji when it's clear they are laughing at the content of the post and not with you on a joke you made. Classicrockfan Classicrockfan if you got something to respond with, do it. I want to hear how you disagree, because I am honestly scratching my head while playing this. I am on a top of the line setup and it just doesn't look that great to me in the ways I was expecting it to. I have played other PS5 games that were awesome to look at, and I just don't count this game as one of them so far. Again I'm still in the intro but this is how the game looks as far as I can see. I can see other posters above agree with me in some ways, saying how the CBR looks awful. It does (in performance mode). It's freaking obvious. In resolution mode, it looks pretty good when standing still but as soon as you start moving it's just not great. And then if you go to performance mode, it looks ok while you're moving, and then looks terrible when you're standing still. It sorta feels to me like you just can't win visually. Now it could still be a great game. That has nothing to do with graphics. After everything I've seen and read though I was expecting more. I mean I even saw uncompressed video reviews where I was like ...whoa that looks great! But directly on my Sony 85" ... not so much. Not sure what else to say, I always just call it like I see it.

Worked like a charm disabling and re-enabling deep color HDR for me - and I don't even have a C1, merely an older LG 4K HDR TV. So I guess this is worth a shot for anyone with a LG TV.

Thanks man

I'm glad I replayed HZD a week ago because it's like the sequel starts a week after the first one ends. Having played through the first one twice it's such an awesome callback to that amazing first game in the first few hours that I can imagine will not be as impactful for those who don't have it fresh in their mind.

I picked Normal but I almost just want to do Story as I know the white whale is a week away.

Played two hours in performance mode. So far so good, no weird glitches or anything.

I'll play an hour on resolution tomorrow to see how it compares but I have a feeling I'll end up sticking to the performance mode on this one.

You are welcome and thank you kindly.

Thank you. I had gotten it to where it looked OK at best before, but after this change it looks so much better - like the promotional material. Guerilla should put this in their tech support suggestions. Worked like magic.

I don’t know if there’s anything geurilla can do this late in the game, but I hope they can go back and look at the rendering choice for the 60fps mode. It looks really terrible. Games like demons souls and ratchet prove you can have a super clean image at 1440p with good AA.

I think it will have to be wait for the PC version if not because there’s no way we should be going back to 30fps. Devs just need to be more intelligent with their choices.

So you have played it then and see it too? I’m not losing my mind? It’s weird to have such a negative impression after all the praise I read.

no I haven’t played it I was looking at comparisons only And it looks really rough In Performance imo. I was going to head into town and trade in some old games that I’ve fully completed like returnal and FFVII but now I’m on the fence and might just wait to see how it goes.

also, the bugs you mentioned seems like it could do with a Few more patches. Think I’ll just stick with cyberpunk and hit the Elden Ring crack next week lol.
