Yeh. Unfortunately it just didnt really work for me. I mean, its a movie about a killer who sticks things up his ass, so of course its not going to be amazing, but I think the team went full retard on this.

Also watched The Platform the other day, great movie, really reminded me of The Cube.
Pity the ending wasnt its strongest suite, mind you wasnt in Cube either, but I thoroughly loved the premise.

The only way it’s good is an ‘it’s so bad it’s good’ way. Even Susperia isn’t really much better than an amateur film student attempt.
Watched Stagefright earlier and it’s so fucking poor. Bad acting, bad writing, bad editing, and as usual in many Italian horrors it has one of the worst soundtracks ever made. With the exception of Goblin I’m pretty sure no bands used in Giallo films ever actually know what scenes their music will be accompanying.

Question. What do you guys think is the best long-running horror franchise and what's the worst? My vote for best is a nightmare on elm street. The first and third I think are legit great movies. The rest are at least fun. Halloween would be a close second for me. The worst has to go to Friday the 13th for me. None of those movies I would consider great. There is some fun to be had with them but that's it. And titties of course.

Unpopular opinion, but I'm a big fan of Saw, though not all movies are good.
Don't really know any other long-running horror franchise.

I’d probably have it in reverse order. I love all three, but Friday the 13th is so stupid that it’s just a joy to watch. Plus parts 4 and 6 are genuinely good films.
Hellraiser is worth consideration. Some of the sequels are quite interesting.
You could even go way back and make an argument for the Universal Frankenstein films. Son of Frankenstein is still a great horror film even today.

Watched Candyman on Netflix last night. Definitely one of the better horror films from the 90s. Never saw the sequels. I assume those are terrible.
Looks like they pushed back the new one to September. Was hoping they'd have it available for rental on the original release date.

this was actaully pretty good. starts off rough, and the acting doesn't improve all that much (well, it gets a little better by the end, but i think that's bc of the circumstances... all of the "regular" every day interaction scenes in the beginning had some real cringe acting... but it does get a little better).
but once shit starts going down, the movie takes off.

The only horror movies I really love are the Saw movies (but not all) and Cube and Cube Zero.
Also, the "Harper's Island" series.
Generally I really love this "One person dies after the other and you need to figure out what's going on" style.

I just watched Phantasm for the first time in forever. I believe it was on Shudder! which I am watching for Joe Bob Briggs.

I also would like to know the answer to that. I just can´t seem to take Italian horror seriously with how bad they feel to me. I do not deny the quality of some sound tracks (Tenebre, Profondo Rosso, Suspiria,...) and some select scenes (the witch exposition in Suspiria, the herb hallway walk ...), but as a whole, just nope.
Recently I watched Silver Bullet (1985) for the first time. I kinda feel like what David Lynch said about the darkness making you more appreciative of the light seeps into the horror genre in the shape of; human interaction in the community is making me appreciate the horror that happens to them. Salem´s Lot is also great in that regard.
I also watched The Outsider 2020 TV series. It is simply gripping, the gradual conversion of the characters, the whole cast and especially Ralph´s wife ("There will be.") are the highlights.

Has anyone mentioned “We are still here”? (2015) It’s tense, chilling, clever, and, in the end, quite scary. It’s a slow burn, but it’s one of the rare horror films that I had to admit was pretty unsettling, and has a satisfyingly scary 3rd act - it sticks with you for a while.
It’s best to watch it without reading too much about it.

I have. I’ve seen a lot of his films for some reason. I didn’t hate it but I wouldn’t watch it again. It’s not him, it’s obviously me, as despite being a huge horror fan who is well aware how respected Argento is, all I get from it is bad dubbing and acting with the occasional random colour filter.
It’s just not a genre I get. It almost feels like they’re deliberately trying to make bad movies.

Just watched Fantasy Island and boy it was a goddamn trainwreck. Most of the movie felt like watching some Freeform flick and the main twist was just hilariously bad, it's clearly because the writers couldn't come up with anything better. It reminded me of later Scream movies where they had to pick someone for the movie to have an actual ending. The casting was also poor, Michael Pena is one of the last actors I'd place in a "villain" role.

-Grizzly
-Prophecy (the monster movie 1979)
-the Boogeyman (1980 original)
-One Dark Night (w/ Adam West)
-Bloody New Year (nothing much to do with New Year's...but a collage of random special effects)
-Freak show (it's an anthology horror film...after petitioning they put it up on YouTube. watch it, a rare Canadian gem)
-From a Whisper to a Scream (brilliant imo anthology driven by Vincent Price)

Sadly was too young to be alive in the 80s to be actually affected by most of those classics since I watched most of them in the last few years. With that said, for me the 2000s were filled with great movie that scarred me or were at least very memorable.
- Hills Have Eyes - 2006 (remake but first one I saw)
- darkness falls - 2003
- Final Destination(s) - through the 2000s - i still avoid doing certain things because of those movies.
- The fourth kind (2009) - only movie that ever made me lose sleep due to an owl in the window when i was going to sleep.
- 28 days/ weeks later - 2002/2007 - Best zombie movies, come at me i'm not budging on that one.
- shaun of the dead - 2004 - 3rd best zombie movie.
- Grudge/ Ju-hon
- Trick 'r Treat - 2007 - Great anthologie movie and maybe has the best halloween feel
Bonus with scary movies 1 to 3 being the moviesthat molded my sense of humor.

There are great horror movies in the 80s that i sadly got to way too late in my movie watching life and were, by the time i got to them, parodied, remade, saw a better version of the scares, saw those same formulas over and over again in subsequent movies, or even didn't work anymore.

The first one combat and level design were far superior than the second one.
However, the second one had better story plot and character development.
It's a shame that we won't see a third entry for this ip

Disagree on the second having better character development. They tossed Joseph, Ruvik and Leslie aside and ignored the ending of TEW1, then introduced a bunch of one dimensional new characters that all died soon after. I forgot all of their names as soon as I finished the game.
They also juggled too many villains imo. If they had to get rid of Ruvik, they should have kept Stefano through the entire game and built him up more.
The storytelling in 2 is a mess and you can tell they didn't have time to make a coherent storyline. Johanas even said he had to compromise a good story to meet deadlines.
I know he can do better, because he directed the DLC for the first game and those DLC (Assignment and Consequences) had the best storytelling in the series. Shame 2 didn't turn out better.
An unrelated gripe but the voice acting in 2 was also way worse and made me not connect to the characters as much as a result. Voice acting strike happened as soon as production of 2 started. Everyone got replaced.
