I really enjoyed reading Dr. Sleep a few years ago, but I totally lost interest in the movie about halfway through. Doubt I'll finish it. Hard to say why, the film version just seems a bit off and not scary at all.

OMG! I found a home, at last!

My fav horror movies:

Hellraiser (whole franchise, but 1 and 2 are the best imo)
Sinister
Supernatural (Insidious)
The Fourth Kind (not really 100% horror, but the alien speaking is awesome!)
Silent Hill
Almost every zombie movie with some good plot

Also I love movies/series/games with demons, ghosts, entities, paranormal stuff, etc... :D

Do you guys have a discord?

Watch: Let’s Scare Jessica to Death, on Criterion.

Handles mental health as well as any horror ever has. It’s gone way underseen, likely due to its title being confusing, give it a shot!

Sinister I don't get the love for, just thought it was okay
Supernatural the TV show? That show bores me
Never saw The Fourth Kind, but I hear Milla tells you how real this is and tries to shame you if you don't believe it, but it turned out the "real footage" was also actors
Silent Hill is pretty neat but could have been way better I think
I love zombie movies but I don't know if plot is their strong suit

I don't believe there's a discord, there's a general GAF discord but it barely gets used, if you want a horror discord I could PM you one I sometimes look at that's fairly active

The Empty Man sucked. Extremely low budget. They craft this wonderful "monster" thing you see in the trailer. Yea that is all you see of it. The rest of the movie is explained to you.

Hi all, I leave the videogame section of Neogaf because our horror short movie "The Jäger Within" is now up on Amazon Prime Video (just USA and UK right now).

Trailer:

Me and my brother did the camera shooting, Ivan King is the director and Francesco Sanseverino co-directed it and did the make-up. The short won the "Best Special Effects" at Visioni Notturne 2020. Has been a huge amount of work, but we are proud of the final result. Hope you'll give it a look and maybe leave a review to let us know what you think! :messenger_grinning_smiling:

Hey guys. I'm new here! Big Horror fan. It has been my favourite genre since a very young age. My parents weren't really the type to care what I watched mostly, so I got plenty of scares growing up. One of my favourite Horror films is Scream (hence the avatar). I was really bummed out when Wes Craven passed away, as a lot of my favourite Horror films were directed by him. Just a really talented guy, I love Nightmare on Elm Street as well.

I think the movie that creeped me out the most growing up was probably The Sixth Sense. I was pretty terrified of Ghosts for a while after that film, some of the scenes really send shivers down your spine. I was scared to go to the bathroom alone at night for weeks. That is the only downside to watching scary films. :messenger_fearful:

I think the best Horror film I've seen in recent memory was Hereditary. It was such a slow burn and didn't rely on jump scares, and Toni Collette is probably one of the best actresses working today in my view. She was great in Sixth Sense as well.

Nice to meet you all!

Wes Craven made some really great films, the original Nightmare is probably my favorite 80s horror flick. People Under The Stairs and Serpent & The Rainbow are amazing as well.

Yes! Those are really great as well. I also love what he did with New Nightmare. I liked the spin he took on the films by bringing Freddy in to the 'real world'. It was really creative, and I thought the Freddy design was much creepier. Something about the Trench Coat. Loved the darker tone.

What did you guys think of V/H/S? The 2012 movie. I rewatched it recently, and it's pretty good. I might watch the second one again soon, I remember really liking it, some creepy segments. I think the only one I didn't really like was the third one Viral. I'm normally not a huge fan of found footage, but I really like the way these movies did it and how it actually shows how the tapes were discovered. I really wish more movies tried the Anthology route, it can work really well with Horror. Trick 'r Treat was another good one in that similar vein.

I liked the first the haunted house story I liked I know they made a full movie out of the story about the girl that turned out to be a gargo type creature, but My favorite was the 2nd vhs I loved the cult story at the end.

I forgot about that, Siren right? I still need to watch that at some point. That was probably my favourite segment from the first movie. I just wasn't expecting it at all, and the moment she started transforming in to a monster creeped me the hell out. So good.

The second one was an example of a sequel that was just as good if not better than the first in some areas. Shame they sort of forced the third one out and rushed it. They had a really good thing going.

I really forgot about how bizarre that one was. I don't know where they were going with that.

You guys should watch an underrated gem called I See You by the way. It is quite a recent film and It's on Netflix. I was surprised by it. It starts slow, and you wonder when it's going to get going but it's worth the wait. Not seen many people talking about this film, give it a shot. Did feel more like a thriller in some areas though.

I watched Siren when it came out, but can't remember much other than it just being ok, whereas the VHS segment still sticks with me for how utterly creepy it was. The cult in the second one was really good as well.

My favorite was probably Pet Semetary.
Is it as predictable as the title suggests? Looking for something hardcore, but honestly I can't handle demonic content. That shit fucks with my mind

But if Pet Semetary is good I'm going to consider it. Still haven't read a Stephen King book, I want to go with the most frightening book he's written

Some people think The Shining is his best. I kinda love all his books, the one that I found creepiest was Pet Sematary, a shame both movie adaptations do it no justice at all. Not sure if I'd call it demonic, btw, at least I don't think that's specified. Often with King stuff what exactly causes it isn't really gotten into, mostly his stories are metaphors for things like alcoholism/addiction, struggles he dealt with, that's the thing in Pet Sematary, also The Shining. I feel like the movie versions of Pet Sematary are plenty predictable but the novel isn't, it's nowhere near as straight forward about this material as other works would be. It's pretty subtle to be honest. Even King, himself considers Pet Sematary his scariest story, btw.

Just watched The Invisible Man 2020 and was pretty impressed with it. Well acted with good use of silence and long shots to build tension, as well as one jump scare that actually got me. Although I do have one problem with the ending
wouldn't the suit have had several bullet holes in it before she put it on, thus making it useless?

You're wrong about the spoiler question.

Agree with your Pet Sematary ranking. It's definitely his most "horror book" and my favourite. I liked 'It' a lot but not due to it's horror aspects but due to the world building and the atmosphere. I highly recommend 'The Fisherman' by John Langan to fans of Pet Sematary'. It's amazing.

there was only one suit though wasn't there, she had it in her bag so must have taken it off his brother after she killed him?

you must have missed an entire scene, there was a prototype version of the suit when she searches the house, then someone comes home and she hides in that room and hides the suit in there, that suit was in there the entire movie and then she went in there and changed into it at the end.
