I don't get the whole celebrity fascination that some people take to extremes, we recently watched the Beckham's on Netflix (deffo worth a watch) and the sheer craziness that followed those two and especially David around the world was nothing short of a mental illness, especially when he arrived in Japan, I get little kids loving to see their idols but grown ass men and women!? It's just embarrassing

In 1997 I was working security for the INXS show.
I was assigned to the pit and made my usual trip to the bar to get a couple of bottled waters I would usually hand out to dehydrated kids upfront.

On my way back I ran into Nicolas Cage who was in town filming "Snake Eyes".

I just told him "Nic Cage, welcome to Montreal! Man you were GREAT as tiny Elvis!"
He just replied "Wow you remember that!?"

I wished him a great evening and went on my way.

I saw my representative (MP) once at a flower market. He must have been ten meter in front so i told my girlfriend "let's pick up the pace i want to tell him bout some social housing shenanigans he was involved in." She responded "i don't care about politics go have fun i'll see you around" so i went and talked to him for a few minutes, and he lied about the affair so convincingly i wasn't sure anymore and had to check back home to see that he had indeed lied to me about his role in the scandal. Goddam politricks.

So most i can do is move ten meters (on even ground, on a slope i wouldn't have moved).


If it's a musician i like i can do and have done much more, like traveling a few hundreds kilometers and paying a few hundred bucks to see a show.

I've been in close proximity to celebrities a time or two and just ignored them. Once we were having drinks in an airport restaurant and John Cena sat at the table next to us. One of the guys in my group ran over to get a selfie with him while the rest of us rolled our eyes and told him to leave the poor guy alone.

Personally never. Have been made by my wife on several occasions to go to a Comic Con on a couple of occasions however. I don't know if I am weird or if other people are like this but I just see celebrities as everyone else who are just doing a job. If anything, I see them as less than because the person making a burger in McDonald's is more useful to me than somebody on TV.

Eh, as is the case with star wars conventions and things like that, people will pay to have something signed by a seventy year old guy who appeared as Storm Trooper #4 in one of the films.
It doesn't appeal to me, but I'm not convinced that it's a sign of excessive narcissism, because I'm sure plenty of the actors and celebrities that people pay to spend 30 seconds with are baffled when approached by the conventions. I imagine a lot of them dislike doing it, but treat it as a decently paid day at work.

I’m very giggly and have one celebrity obsession;

I found out he is appearing at an entertainment show event in Cali. You pay at least $75 to get in, then have to stand in a long line to meet the star you want and pay for their autograph.
That doesn’t guarantee you a picture so you have to sign up for a photo op and pay another $70.
I would also have to pay for airfare and a hotel, and shuttle, or Uber etc. The hotel where the event is taking place is sold out and a considerable waiting list.
So I’d have to stay at a different hotel. I know a few fans online who are going, but never meet them before. Just online. I’d be spending at least $1500.

Am being the crazy one for not feeling right about going? It’s a very impersonal way of meeting him, but at same time when would I get another chance?
But how do I know he wouldn’t cancel? It’s happened at other local events I went to. Not with him and nothing as big as this, but I’ve been to celeb memorabilia shows where they would add names, sometime bigger ones and then it would say canceled the day before.

I was once at a convention center helping someone out and had a ton of spare time and there was a comic con happening at the same venue so I went with my kids.
I did not pay to say hello or get a picture with any of the 'celebrities', even though some were interesting like Val Kilmer and Michael Biehn.
Just seemed dumb.
