I'd much prefer a weird Nintendo reveal with bizarre features, even something like the Wii U to be honest. The weirder and less like the rest of the industry, the better IMO. Sadly the success of Switch has meant they almost had to keep the same basic setup and not try anything bizarre. Maybe next gen.

No killer app. Disappointing software.

Hardware seems impressive though.

"C."

You seem to be easily pleased, is that you:

Overall grade: :messenger_neutral:

:messenger_neutral: = C

Everything about the hardware was 10/10, but Nintendo doubling down on the family friendly soyboy multiplayer bullshit disgusts me, there will probably be very few games for people who want a mature experience.

D.

The only reason this doesn't get a Don Mattrick grade is because they actually had games in their reveal.

Otherwise you'd think they hired him on as a consultant or something. What an incredible mess.

Tons of old ass games, graphics look subpar, Metroid prime looked better than the switch version. Same kiddie games as always. Their concept of fun it's not my concept of fun. The duskblooders looks great. Their price of games is ridiculous. If anyone was impressed by the direct. You are a very sweet kid.

Went from a "maybe I'll get this after Christmas" to a wait and see.

Nintendo patting themselves on the back for the C button and basic communication abilities will always be hilarious.

Wasn't very excited about any of the game reveals.

Much like MicroSoft only having "Halo, Gears and Forza,"

Nintendo only has "Mario, Donkey Kong and Zelda." Same old kiddie horseshit.

MeH I rate this show a D as I'm not interested in any of the first party offerings. Much of the third party stuff I'd rather play on PS5 Pro.

I may get a Switch 2 if we get a proper 2D Metroid and a new Luigi's Mansion.

Nintendo has become supremely arrogant and greedy, seemingly very weak, underwhelming hardware tech with undisclosed specs still at 8nm, extremely overpriced accessories/controllers, with graphics looking like something between a PS3 and ps4. Yet they have the gall to charge 90$ for physical games when their games have tiny budgets compared to current aaa titles and tech 2 generations behind.

Worse still the backwards compatibility situation is a mess. The games are also clearly designed around the Switch 1 and are basically given the remaster treatment rather than an actual next-generation lift. I was honestly expecting them to at least deliver solid PS4-level power with dlss etc allowing it to hit above its weight, perfect backwards compatibility, real impressive showcases showcasing the new generation console and showing nitendos signature quality.

I hope they get back to earth and set prices back, get their backwards compatibility sorted and drop some switch 2 exclusive bangers that actually impress instead of switch 1 games running with improved res and 16xaf. They have all the tools to deliver (even with the underwhelming hardware).

Direct itself? I'd say a B, the new games all look like lots of fun, Switch 2's features are conservative but handy, and there were some fun surprises even if most of the third-party stuff wasn't to my tastes.

It was all the post-Direct pricing stuff that really sucked...

Yet the last DK game came out 11 years ago.

But sure, let's ignore Metroid lol.

Metroid Prime 4, Duskbloods, Donkey Kong Bananza, Mario Kart World, Bravely Default, Enhanced OG Switch Zeldas are what made the show great for me. There were other great announcements like Elden Ring, FF7 Intergrade, Silksong but I never play third-party multiplatform titles on Nintendo Hardware, I have either played them or will play them on PC when they release. The portability factor does absolutely nothing for me because I play docked 100% of the time so there is no point of playing the inferior version of game where it's already available elsewhere....UNLESS there is some cool feature(s) exclusive to Nintendo consoles or couch coop.

Still an A for me for the Nintendo stuff.

Well it is gaf sooo.
I still think it will be a success despite also thinking that the direct was god awful. It won't be as successful as the original Switch though, they've priced themselves out of that fight.

B+

I've been waiting for a new Mario Kart and a new Donkey Kong since 2014, so getting both within 2 months of launch is a dream come true.
FAST Fusion was also a cool surprise, as I'm a fan of Shin'en's games.

It was nice to see a good variety of third party games, and support for 120fps was something I didn't expect.

There was a bit too much filler, and it could've been better if it was 40 minutes instead of 60 with less time spent on overexplaining hardware features, but at least the goods were still there.

Ultimately, it sold me on the console; I've already preordered and paid for mine, and I'll probably pick up like 5-6 games from the show, so while not Nintendo's strongest showing, it got the job done.

I do have to say I may up my score since the three hosts dressed up as the console colors, blue on the left, gray in the middle, orange on the right.
