Hurricane Milton - Stay safe Floridians

We evacuated from Tampa this morning to my MIL's in St Augustine. I4 wasn't too bad this afternoon, but it was definitely getting worse traffic wise as the day went on.

Bloody hell :messenger_fearful:

I really hope it swings away from Tampa, because a cat 4 storm surge is going to ass fuck the entire area if it's all built like this.

Can't they build a basement instead?
More building with cinder blocks and metal roofs that can endure the winds and be sealed up to resist water penetration. Go look how structures are built in Caribbean countries. The typical matchstick wooden structure of stuff in the US aint gonna cut it.

I wonder how much building codes are gonna have to change if this becomes a semi-regular thing. CAN you feasibly build cat 5 resistant structures?

Absolutely yes. Some housing in Queensland has to be rated for a Cat 5 cyclone. After Cyclone Yasi, the rules were tightened up even more to ensure new builds could take that sort of punishment in areas most likely to get hit by something that strong.

Although, there's no such thing as a cyclone proof house, unfortunately.

Ya know Florida has great weather and all, except when it demolishes your entire community every few years, with increasing frequency and severity due to…the government controlling the weather I guess?

But yes, please stay safe fellas, if you haven't gotten the hell out, do so now. Consider moving to the Rocky Mountain west where we just have droughts

There's a high tech weather machine on a boat in the Gulf Of Mexico being controlled by Hilary Clinton, Taylor Swift, and Michelle Obama.

To put things in perspective. I feel like we're about to see entire communities wiped out. I feel really awful for these people

And still there will be people who won't leave because they hope to get famous with a crazy "I survived Milton" video to boost their floundering TikTok/Instagram/Youtube career.

And nothing of value was lost. But a Darwin Award was won.

Maybe Disney should rerelease their famous cartoon of the Three Little Pigs ... There's an important lesson in that old fable ...

Every house and/or apartment I've ever rented in Florida has always been concrete block. I do see the occasional wood frame house down here but they are usually ancient.

If I don't make it through the day/night, I want you guys to remember me by my undying hatred for Dad of War 2018 and Dad of War: Ragnarok, two shitty, hokey, corny entries into what was once a great action franchise.

Floridians soon be like

The photo was taken during Hurricane Barry in Louisiana

Tropical Storm Barry Drenches Southern Louisiana

MANDEVILLE, LOUISIANA - JULY 13: People float down Lakeshore Drive which is covered by water from Lake Pontchartrain after the area flooded in the wake of Hurricane Barry on July 13, 2019 in Mandeville, Louisiana. The storm, which made landfall this morning as a category one hurricane near Morgan City, caused far less damage and flooding than had been predicted. Flash flood watches were issued throughout much of Louisiana and as far east as the Florida panhandle as the storm was expected to dump more than a foot of rain in many areas and up to 25 inches in some isolated locations. Many areas are now expected to get less than half of the original projections. (Photo by Scott Olson/Getty Images)

I loved GoW 2018. Good riddance to you, sir!

I have an incredible update for everyone: it's raining outside and there is wind.

More astounding details to come.
