I am playing Dragon Age Origins and...

I always get annoyed how Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition removes any traces of Bioware. There are patches that restore the original videos and interface.

I never played this and i've been thinking about starting it. Just have decide whether to play it on PC or Series X. I know PC is better, but this is the kind of game i normally like to play lounged out with a controller.
The game play is designed around K+M.
With all the mods that add cut content too.

PC would absolutely be the best way.

A good RPG that is a bit overrated I feel. Still the best entry in the Dragon Age series but I can think of a dozen other fantasy CRPGs that are better off the top of my head. Some of them released quite recently even.

I never knew who Mortismal Gaming was until Veilguard. Everyone was talking about how he's THE rpg reviewer, and how much they trust his opinion. Maybe he's normally pretty good, but this was my exposure to him, and it was about as bad of a first impression as you can get. Veilguard is barely an rpg, and for him to give it such a glowing review, and to rate it higher than Origins, tells me all I need to know.
It was very weird. He is normally pretty great RPG, and even more so CRPG reviewer. I just don’t know what the hell happened.

I do know I unsubscribed afterwards. Sigh…

I was really confused by that review. His favorite RPG is Pathfinder WOTR and I can't think of two games that are more polar opposite than those two, in every single way.

I recently replayed DAO and DA2 as well. The writing is top notch and adult characters actually act like adults, what a refreshing marvelous concept!

The fucking "Marvelization" of most/all mainstream gaming has completely devastated the versimilitude of fiction. Every single MC in scifi/fantasy feels like a self aware modern day Hollywood actor.
It's not just games, it is movies and TV too.

I wish they would bring this game back, but if it is anything other than a basic remaster, they will ruin it with whatever writers and directors they have on hand nowadays who have no business being in video game development.

DA:O set the bar so high for me & any DA after has yet to give me the same feeling sadly. DA:I was fun though!

Not really, it still crashes a lot on PC, almost to the point of unplayability after a certain point if you dont use the 4GB Vram patch that is mentioned on pcgamingwiki. With that patch yes it works well.

The GOG is already patch with LAA 4GB Vram, they updated it recently

remaster like the legendary edition would be awesome honestly, specially because the game on pc has no support for controllers
Yeah the abandonement pisses me off. I would like to replay Origins and play DA2 but no controller support means no bueno.

Post some screenshots of your playthrough. Some locations, characters, dialogue.

I thought about this stuff but I just prefer controllers these days
Yea I tried going all controller but for older games before proper xinput support and strategy type stuff I still like to use the trusty M&kb

It's awful on SX ...it runs at 60 fps but it just looks so bad. I'd kill for a Remaster of this game

Hello my man two things

I haven't done screenshots so far but I can show you a video of how my game looks, the youtuber is using the same graphical mod

And about the controller I am using this mod, its obviously not native but its quite playable

That being said, the port is a mess and it requires a lot of mods and things to make it work properly, specially for the text to upscale to 4k, so if you decide to play it, be patience

Its criminal that Bioware hasn't made a remaster for this title

this looks good. Are there towns/cities?

It’s excellent. I enjoyed Owlcat’s Pathfinder games more, but mainly because I’m much more familiar with the license than I am with 40K.

I would have killed for BG3 by Owlcat. Larian did a great job, but I think Owlcat would’ve done better.

The leap in quality when it comes to writing, dialogue choices, character depth, and narrative structure is staggering when compared to Veilguard

In this game, the variety of dialogue options is incredible—I can be diplomatic, tell someone to piss off, or outright kill them if I choose so. It feels genuinely exciting and refreshing.
This is what happens when you make a serious world and treat it with seriousness. Also you treat adults playing your games as adults, not man children.

I remember being a bit disappointed in DA:O back in the day, but that's because it went out after Mass Effect, Nwn2 : Mask of the Betrayer and of course BG2 which is still unrivaled to this day (BG3 is good but not BG2 good sorry !)
I still spent a good number of hours on it and it's a solid RPG all around, the world does feel a bit bland though, Bioware should have kept going with D&D.

My biggest issue with Inquisition was that it felt like an offline MMO. Zones were open but you didn't had too many interactions with npcs and wasted majority of your time on busywork or following fetch quests. And moments where you had normal cutscenes and story moments were usually separated from these open-ended zones. There were a few moments, but they happened rarely and game really lacked that proper connection between main story and these zones beyond Power points system

I replayed the series a couple years ago to prepare for what was called Dreadwolf at the time. DA2 e Inquisition run well on the Steam Deck too (I had to create a custom controller profile though).

Origins is still the best Dragon Age game for sure. A great RPG all around.
DA2 is pretty nice too, as long as you make peace with the repeated content/maps due to the short development time.
Inquisition has great characters, and The Trespasser is some of the best Dragon Age content ever.

I will need to play Veilguard one day, just to know how the whole thing with Solas ends... 🥶

It’s so disheartening to see how far BioWare has fallen. They’ve become a shadow of the creative powerhouse they once were.
Man, the same happened to Arkane and their Immersive Sims. Arguably for similar reasons - interference from corporate overlords, forcing them to make the type of game they did not want to make (Anthem, Redfall), leading to a staff exodus.

DA:O has a really special place in my heart. I played lots of RPG's over the years but this one with Persona 4 Golden are my top games. I may be totally on one sided with DA:O but I have story to share. The story goes like this:

In the middle of 2000's (2006 or 2007ish) I was reading monthly gaming magazine. And in that magazine there was a news about Bioware's next big game aside from Mass Effect: Dragon Age. In that article it said that (and this was the news that blowed my mind) there was a small 4-5 people working on this game's lore and world for nearly 6-7 years. I was "What the f-" mode when I read this.

And I'm fast forwarding to the release of the game. I was just blown away by the depth of lore from this game. I don't deny that I'm a story and lore person in productions (game, anime, movie etc.) and this game was reaaaally my cup of cake. The game gave nearly everything I was dreaming for from a high fantasy RPG game. Beside this nearly perfect lore and world, this game gave me hilarious teammates with each have a strong and different characters. Like this was not enough, the game also delivered "real time, pausable and tactical" gameplay. I'm not even mentioning with different start locations with the chosen race and classes. And of course the beautiful story telling.

All of these things showed me that Bioware put their soul in this game (also Mass Effect as well, but that is another story). Over the years I played this game so much and every time I was mesmerized. Maybe some of you will just brush my words as "yeah yeah, whatever" but this game is really that special for me.

I'm saying all these things because in those days companies didn't rush their new IP's. They poured years of thoughts into their "babies". And when the time comes it could be seen from everywhere that we had a golden product in our hands. And now? The only thing they care is surgery scars, non-binary tantrum, DEI politics and all other shit. The level of DA:O is leagues away from other DA games, they are not even close to it. Especially the latest "Politics Age: DEIguard".

These times we live in got so many weak minded people. All they want is squander masterpieces from the past. That is why we are getting more and more shitty games. Because of the weak minded producers we get weak products, broken from the start.

Hope you enjoy! I saw the mod list and feel like the Fade is worth 1 pass through, normally people try and skip it on other playthroughs, but it's been a while. I just remember there being a dog, and it sets the backstory to the character a little. Just funny people say to skip it on a first play, I don't think it's very long either, maybe 1-2 hours?

I liked the real time with pause but hated that everything was cooldown based, in that regard it almost felt like playing an MMO combat wise.

Its a good game but it didn't age that well, yeah sure its still the best Dragon Age game for sure by a huge margin, but its not that good against the top tier RPGs, i played it again recently the writing holds up, everything else doesn't.
I honestly think Bioware are not that great at making CRPGs, they are better at making ARPGs this is why i think Mass Effect is their best work ever.

I think the combat, story and writing holds up extremely well.

The graphics and the technical state of the game are the problem which is why this game should get a remaster asap

What is great about Dragon Age Origins is that you can be such a bastard that practically no one shows up at your ceremony at the end.

I think you can alienate or kill everyone in your party.

Heh I remember after traveling hours with

Alistair and being in a good line with him. I suddenly decided to betray him and side with Loghain. I think the guy even got executed.

I like this kind of options.

Story is included when i said writing, the whole writing of characters, story and worldbuilding is good and holds up, although i think the side quests are bad, they are mostly fetch quests and are worthless to tackle.

As for the Combat i disagree, its too braindead and easy, even for a RTWP, its not as good as Pillars which is new or Final Fantasy 12 or Xenoblade which are older or around the same era.

Fair enough papito, I am still enjoying the game a lot even tho its obviously old

I did not purchase and do not own the game.

I was able to play it recently for about 3 hours.

The dialogue is absolutely horrible. They all talk like teenagers.

The environment graphics are really good. Art style on faces not my cup of tea. The dialogue is game ruining.

I will always remember my broken Arcane Warrior build.

We didn't need to unify an army with that build.

Also, shoutout to Morrigan. We were always playing each other.
